Dropped keepers that you later regret (1 Viewer)

In my 3 keeper-

I drafted Westbrook in his rookie year. About 6 guys at the draft were :goodposting: . He was still stuck behind Duce, and I already had Priest and another good RB so I didn't keep him.

same league, in 2004 I drafted Steve Smith, who broke his leg in the first game. Needing the roster space, I dropped him for another WR (no IR spots) the next year he goes on a tear, putting up 1,500 yds & 12 tds.

Lastly, drafted Palmer in his rookie year. I would be hard pressed to ever keep a QB, unless he was Peyton Manning (granted Palmer did have a nice run at the end of his rookie year). Of course, the next year, he leads all QBs in FFl scoring, putting up 3,800 & 32 Tds

In 2002 I inherited a bad keep-8 team that only had Marshall Faulk, who was huge the year before. My plan was to keep Faulk and throw the entire rest of the team back into the pool. One of the guys I threw back was Tom Brady, who at that point came off of his first Super Bowl win, but was still sort of perceived as more of a game manager in some circles and not a stat monster. Of course that year, he became a stat monster. :goodposting:

Last year I screwed up my RB bye weeks so I grabbed Jones-Drew in one of the last rounds to fill in one week (7 I think). I waived him after week 1 to sign Derrick Blaylock

Palmer and Gore were on my roster their rookie years. I dropped Palmer before his rookie season when I heard that he was not going to start (DUMB). I traded Gore for a 2nd round pick that turned into Sinorice Moss.

I drafted and then traded LT before he ever played his first NFL game. I distinctly remember watching that game at my local bar thinking," You know, maybe I shoulda held on to that guy...".

I was hoarding Shaun Alexander while he sat and rotted behind Ricky Watters. I dropped him due to injuries the week before Watters got hurt.

Yep, this is the one that stings the most for me. Grabbed him off waivers his rookie season and protected him along with Anquan Boldin. (5 keepers, max 2 per position.) Next year he goes on IR after the first game. Picked up Burleson off waivers to replace the vacant WR slot. Held onto Smith until the last possible moment, then dropped him, opting to keep Burleson instead. Double Doh!!!! :goodposting:  Oh well, you live, you learn!Rody

Last year in a 32 team dynasty/salary cap league had to decide between Romo or Cassell to keep for cap purposes and kept Cassell cause there was some talk that he might be traded. Really really could use Romo now since he is only 1.5 mill compared to 5.5 for Hasslebeck who I have.

I don't think I've seen any so far that beat this:

Drafted Priest Holmes before his last year in Baltimore and then traded him (for Travis Prentice) in the offseason while he was still a free agent and hadn't signed yet with Kansas City.

I often go back and count the championships I would have won...

A few of mine in my dynasty league:

Drafted Dom Davis in our rookie draft.... after a few good games, traded him and a 3rd rounder for a 2nd rounder. That 2nd rounder became Michael Clayton, who I traded before his rookie season as a throw-in.

Picked up Steve Smith on waivers in the offseason, but was fairly loaded at WR, so I traded him for some free agent bucks, a pittance.

Drafted Michael Turner, dropped after his rookie season. (didn't have enough cap room anyway)

I'm sure there were worse examples...

I also traded Brad Johnson and Stephen Davis for Steve Young a game before Young had his career ending concussion. It wasn't an outright drop but I certainly regretted that trade when Davis ended up being one of the top fantasy backs that year.

Kind of the same thing here. Picked up Steve Smith off waivers after I was eliminated from the playoffs one year, figuring he'd have potential when he came back from the injury. Next season had to decide between him or Andre Johnson. Picked Andre.

Doesn't compare to some of the stories here, but I dropped Travis Henry before the season started last year since 1) I expected to eventually get suspended for a year and 2) thought he was the 3rd best RB on the team and wouldn't do much. Really kicking myself now that he's in Denver.

Back in '04 I had Priest Holmes, D Blaylock, and LJ. I dropped the wrong backup back when Blaylock had that 4 TD game.

in one of my keeper leagues last year I drafted Marques Colston based on the great advice here at FBG and in our league he was listed as a TE. During preseason, I was making a few roster moves here and there & I released Colston.....quickly came to my senses a few days later and picked him up again......but the commish had in the meantime changed him to a WR!!

After J. Jones had the great end to his fisrt year, I dropped Steven Jackson and opted for jules. Ouch, I woud have had SJ and LJ in a keep 3 if I would have made the right decision.

After the 2004 season, I had a choice between keeping Javon Walker for a 6th or Donald Driver for a 14th in a league where players keep for their cost last year + 2 rounds. I chose Walker, who of course finished 2005 with 4 catches for 27 yards, while Driver has finished 13th and 5th and would have kept both seasons for a double-digit draft pick.

I threw Jerious Norwood into a trade last year because I was dropping him anyway due to lack of roster space. I also traded Maurice Jones-Drew for Michael Turner who was a waiver claim the week before. I could have kept either player at the minimum salary, but instead I either get to keep Matt Jones or nobody in their spot.
