Dunn vs Caddy going forward... (1 Viewer)

With all the carries they gave Caddy towards the end of the game yesterday I think Dunn will at best be getting 1/2 the carries from here on out. And for a guy (Dunn) that rarely gets in the end-zone I'd say he doesn't have much value. Thoughts?

if your league only rewards yardage after 100 yds for RB, i wouldn't be looking to caddy this year....

Caddy got the garbage time, and needed the reps. I think Dunn will continue to get the majority of carries, and Caddy will help out.

Caddy got work because the game was out of reach. Dunn is the starter and a must start in PPR leagues.
+1I didn't see the Bucs game, but this looks to me like a situation where they had a chance to evaluate where Caddy is in live action without risking the game at hand. His 1.5 ypc average isn't exactly going to demand the ball. Dunn is not a workhorse back, but will garner the majority (15-20 ) of the carries while the game is on the line, IMO. Watching a couple of his highlights, Dunn still seems to have some gas left in the tank.

I was at the Bucs game this weekend. Dunn looked like the best player on the offense. He put a really sweet spin-move on a LB in the redzone to get his TD. He can also catch and make moves out of the backfield. Caddy got a lot of the garbage time work and it was AWESOME to see him out there! However, he kept getting squashed behind the line of scrimmage and a lot of that was on the offensive line imo. They just weren't blocking well for him. He didn't look that great this weekend, but he looked HEALTHY, which is good imo. I think he will get more work going forward and if he can knock off the rust, he could be a factor in time for the fantasy playoffs.

From Rotoworld...

Warrick Dunn-RB- Buccaneers Nov. 24 - 1:36 pm et

Coach Jon Gruden confirmed Monday that Warrick Dunn will remain the Bucs' featured ball carrier for the rest of the season.

Dunn generated 127 yards and a score on 19 touches in Week 12. Cadillac Williams got carries late in the game, but Gruden says "We want to put the ball in our best player's hands" when referring to Dunn. Dunn will be a solid RB2 play and borderline RB1 in points-per-reception leagues even in difficult matchups going forward. He should see 20-25 touches per week.

I'm not buying it.

Dunn cannot be a full-time RB, not the way Gruden wants to run anyway. Did you see his goalline carry against Min? Gruden will need someone to move the pile like Graham did, especially with a lead. I know Carnell has not been a YPC star his first few years...but IMO Gruden will want Carnell to be that back.

I see a split...ETA...IF Carnell can handle the workload physically.

Caddy did not look like the Caddy of old. The Bucs were blowing out the Lions and Caddy could not do much against a tired, horrible Lion defense. The rest of this year I see Dunn getting at least 70%. I would not expect a 100% Caddy until next season. That is Caddy can ever return to his former self..he had a horrible injury.

Listening to JG press conference right now. This is where they got the blurb about getting the ball into our best players hands (Dunn). He did however say something about goal line, and Caddy. Also, he thinks Caddy did good. The runs he ran were predictable, but he still did well.

i don't think too many would fault Caddy for running a little gingerly in his first few games back from a major injury. I can totally see him getting his legs and more importantly ... his confidence back this year. Dunn isn't exactly the posterboy for durability, so caddy coould be called upon at any time. So long as he has Gruden's confidence, Caddy can make an impression come Fantasy Playoffs. Im going to get rid of some scrub and pick him up if he's available. Magahee had a nasty injury in college as the whole world knows by now, but he was able to come back and play quite well.

Caddy needs work, as evidenced by his bumbling in the backfield that resulted in the fumble returned for a TD.

I wouldn't hang that one on Caddy and am not sure why you would say that. I would hang that on Garcia and feel like he is quite a liability for the Bucs going forward. I really think after watching the game live that Caddy could play well in the coming weeks, especially if they get him the ball in non-obvious running situations. He looked like he had a lot of energy out there, even though he did look somewhat rusty.

Seriously? Did you see the play?I was watching that game live and although it was unclear initially, Caddy was no where near where he was supposed to be on that play. He looked lost. Even the announcers caught that one.

I agree I think that one was on Caddy. He needs to work on picking up the blocks, and we have yet to see if he can catch the ball. That has been one of the major question marks for the brief time he was playing. He is definitely going to be used as the bruiser back, and I expect Gruden to use him like he was using Graham once he becomes fully healthy. Caddy is a guy that gets better with more carries, and he can wear down defenses. I expect a good dose of him next week, but Dunn is still going to get the majority. The next milestone for Caddy is catching the ball, and putting him in a situation to run outside.

Cadillac's first play back obviously didn't go as planned, but Jon Gruden went out of his way to say that was not Cadillac's fault. I like the fact that Williams got some extra work in towards the end of the game, especially in short yardage situations. The Bucs will need Williams to be the short yardage guy down the stretch.
This is a quote from a PR chat. I guess that big blunder wasn't his fault.
