Dwayne Bowe -- Really?!? Did you just reveal this?!? (1 Viewer)

Story at PFT

ESPN The Magazine has a feature called "Postcards from the Edge." In it, pro athletes provide anecdotes regarding their lives.

In the latest issue, which hits newsstands Friday, Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe possibly says too much.

"My rookie year, we were playing in San Diego," Bowe says. "You hear stories about groupies hanging out in hotel lobbies, but some of my teammates had it set up so there was a girl in every room. The older guys get on MySpace and Facebook a week before we go to a city; when a pretty one writes back, they arrange to fly her in three or four days in advance. They call it importing."

(The federal government possibly would call it something else.)

"Younger guys don't have the money to do it," Bowe added. "Anyway, these girls had the whole top floor. They know everything about us -- first and last names, sisters and brothers, salary. This one girl was talking to me like she'd known me for years. 'Hey, D-Bowe, how's Grandma?' I'm like, 'How do you know my grandma?' She knew that I talk about her every time I'm interviewed for a story.

"I told her I had a girlfriend, but she didn't care. She was wearing my jersey, sitting in my lap, making it look like we knew each other. Then she took a picture and put it on Facebook. That almost got me in trouble."

Bowe may have avoided trouble that time. But we've got a feeling that trouble will be finding him now.
This one should get REALLY interesting......

Chiefs’ Bowe tells magazine of teammates ’importing’ women to hotels in San Diego during 2007

By ADAM TEICHER

The Kansas City Star

Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was already having a bad day, having dropped a couple of passes at practice.

His Wednesday got worse with comments made in the issue of ESPN the Magazine scheduled to come out Friday. In it, Bowe talked of Chiefs players arranging for women to meet them at the team hotel when the Chiefs played a game in San Diego in Bowe’s rookie season of 2007.

“My rookie year, we were playing in San Diego,” Bowe said, according to the magazine. “You hear stories about groupies hanging out in hotel lobbies, but some of my teammates had it set up so there was a girl in every room.

“The older guys get on MySpace and Facebook a week before we go to a city; when a pretty one writes back, they arrange to fly her in three or four days in advance. They call it importing. Younger guys don’t have the money to do it.

“Anyway, these girls had the whole top floor. They know everything about us — first and last names, sisters and brothers, salary. This one girl was talking to me like she’d known me for years. ‘Hey, D-Bowe, how’s Grandma?’

“I’m like, ‘How do you know my grandma?’ She knew that I talk about her every time I’m interviewed for a story. I told her I had a girlfriend, but she didn’t care. She was wearing my jersey, sitting in my lap, making it look like we knew each other. Then she took a picture and put it on Facebook. That almost got me in trouble.”

The Chiefs had no response to Bowe’s comments, and Bowe could not be reached for comment. The story became public after the media interview period with coach Todd Haley and players concluded.

Bowe’s comments could eventually prove nothing more than a minor distraction for the Chiefs. But they also could cause trouble in the locker room. Haley and general manager Scott Pioli have turned over much of the roster since joining the Chiefs last year, but some players remain from 2007.

One player they haven’t touched is Bowe. The Chiefs have in fact been more patient with Bowe than they have with many other players.

He arrived for offseason work last year overweight, thus violating one of Haley’s basic tenets. He was benched for a time during the preseason for failing to work as hard as the coach preferred. He was suspended for four games last year for violation of the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances and was still among the league leaders in dropped passes.

None of that sounds like the stuff of a guy who’s among Haley’s right 53, but he’s still with the Chiefs. That’s a sign they are both taken with his ability and think he’s not too far gone that they can’t unlock his talents.

But Haley already sounded like someone losing patience with Bowe, and this was before his comments to the magazine, which certainly won’t help him with the Chiefs.

“Dwayne Bowe is moving into the critical stage of his young career,” Haley said recently. “You have to make a jump if you want to be talked about with certain receivers.

“(Last season) was a difficult year for him in a lot of ways between the suspension and him coming into the offseason a little out of shape. He’s a guy we’re all talking to on a pretty consistent basis to continue to make sure he understands . . . that we don’t have a lot of backsliding.”

Bowe had a tough practice Wednesday. The Chiefs practiced outside in a light rain. In addition to dropping a couple of passes, he slipped and fell on the wet grass twice after catching passes.

He looked a lot like he did for much of last season.

“I’ve talked a bunch to Dwayne since the season ended, and I think he’s got his expectations where they have to be, which is high, and he knows he needs to be better,” Haley said. “I think as long as he’s thinking that way and understands what the big picture is . . . then that’s the way you get ahead of the bar.

“Again, I think the important thing with Dwayne are that his expectations are high and he knows he has to be a better player to be what he wants to be and to help make this team a great team. I’m encouraged by Dwayne. I’m not tempered at all. I think his mind is in the right place.”

The Chiefs are counting on a big season from Bowe. The other starting wide receiver, Chris Chambers, played well after joining the Chiefs last season, but he will be 32 in August.

Otherwise, the Chiefs have only free-agent addition Jerheme Urban, second-round draft pick Dexter McCluster and a number of unproven players.

“He didn’t know what to expect last year, so he came in and he wasn’t in the greatest shape,” Haley said of Bowe. “He had a difficult road back, and it was a struggle but he survived it, much like a lot of us did. He weathered the storm and got his weight where it had to be and more importantly, he understands what’s expected of him.

“I know his mind’s in the right place. He wants to be a top receiver, and now it’s going to be up to him. (Bowe must) put everything into it to be a top receiver. I do think understanding what’s expected is a big item for Dwayne Bowe. I don’t doubt he has the skill to be a top receiver. He just needs to do it on a full-time basis.

“Dwayne’s and my relationship has continued to grow. He’s somebody I talk to on a pretty consistent basis, and I feel pretty good about where he’s at and what he wants to be. These guys (have) got to have the drive to be great and to be part of something great, and I think he’s definitely in that category.”

I have officially surrendered my two degrees from LSU. I think HS graduate will look better on a resume.

Didn't you already know this about millionaire professional athletes? get off your high horse. like you wouldn't do the same damn thing.....

Of course we would, but that's not the issue. The issue is that he revealed it to a magazine. This revelation not only makes the organization look bad, but makes the veterans who arranged these little rendezvous #### fests look bad (granted we don't know their identities, but people can and will speculate). The last thing Bowe wants to do at this point is to have his teammates/the locker room turn against him.

What say that i do in an ESPN interview? No, don't think I would in fear of getting my ### whooped.

This story won't go anywhere.

Bowe didn't name any names, so I don't see why vets would turn against him (especially because if you DO turn against him, you risk outing yourself as one of these travel agents).

And the media won't pick up on it either. Any reporter that ever wants to make these guys look bad when it comes to women won't have to look far. For whatever reason, they never pursue these stories. It would take a diligent reporter about one week to dig up embarrassing stories on about half the guys on any NFL team. I am guessing that they don't want to burn bridges in the locker room. If you are a beat writer for a team, and you start going on and on about these guys' sexual lives, I can see you getting blackballed real quick. This story isn't on ESPN, is it?

If Bowe plays well, you'll really see this story disappear.

some young attractive bachelors meet girls online while they are travelling around? can someone explain why this would be a big deal??

What was that old TV drama about the NFL on ESPN. Playmakers? That QB hand-selected hot girls in the crowd. Point is, I think we all know this happens.

Yeah, most reasonably intelligent people know this stuff goes on. But no organization wants that kind of press. It reflects negatively on the organization to the majority of people out there, no matter how you spin it.Remember the Viking's Sex Boat? Now, this is not even close to as bad, but it will be widely viewed in a similar negative light.

Bowe didn't have to name anyone because he basically implicated everyone. Single or narried , guilty or innocentI'm guessing you're not married

I don't think anyone is surprised that there are hot girls just waiting to jump into bed with these guys. The interesting part is this:

"Younger guys don't have the money to do it," Bowe added.
So what exactly does that mean? If there's money involved here, then it becomes a big deal.

I'm surprised this is getting glossed over as "no big deal". This is potentially a HUGE deal.

Women in every room? Think some of them might have been possibly paid? Ever heard of prostitution before?
You think they had to pay girls? No wayyyy. If teams can do this on all kinds of levels of play that isn't up to the caliber of the NFL in all different kinds of sports, I doubt NFL players are the ones paying for it.P.S. the girls on FB that are more prone to be up for this kind of thing are the orange ones

Tabloid material? It's in ESPN's magazine. It's on multiple sites. You don't think he said it? You don't think it's potentially a big deal? You don't think he could possibly have some consequences as a result of what he said?

i dont think they were paying the girls directly for sex... rather, paying for first class plane tickets, jewelry, expensive dinners, champagne, VIP club seats, etc etc. In the end, all of that stuff probably costs more. The rookies other than first round picks don't have as much cash to blow as the veterans.

He could simply mean that the younger players couldnt afford the cost of the flying the girls around the country. Its not shocker that women like to have sex with marginally famous men no matter who they are or what they look like. Its doubtful a professional football player would have to pay for the sex. Airfare and lodging sure, but the women will bump and grind for free.

You think young NFL players can't afford prostitutes?Or you think maybe it's the flying in of women, their hotel rooms, meals, etc.?

Or heck, forget about what we think. If all you have to go on for this 'prostitution' angle is that one quote, then this story really isn't going anywhere.

also i find it odd that they would take the facebook/myspace road. there are plenty of attractive women in most cities, and certainly in san diego. it's not hard to meet girls the old fashioned way - ie in the club/bar. i guess it was just for the convenience of not having to leave the hotel (or not being allowed to due to team rules and whatnot).

and agreed that it was rather stupid to reveal this to ESPN the mag. Bowe probably just wanted to brag.

Yes, tabloid material. ESPN is getting to be a joke. I mean, they were posting big stories on Dez's mom. I mean, as a sports fan, why do I care what Dez's mom did 15 years ago? I have the same issue with this.

It's the off-season. Would you rather a story about Brett Favre and if he will retire or not? Or perhaps coaches raving and drooling about the guy they just drafted?

And btw, as to this absurd claim:This

And this

And this

And this

And this

And this

(and plenty of others I'm not gonna even bother listing regarding the draft)

All of those within the last month.

I'm sorry this is a story regarding your beloved Dwayne Bowe and that it may bring his value a little further down. I'm sorry you didn't like the one thread (the only "tabloid" thread) about Pacman Jones signing with the Bengals and the comment about their arrest history. Other than that, where are all these "tabloid" threads I keep posting instead of FF content?

As to the claims of prostitution, I'm NOT saying they hired prostitutes. I'm saying that, at worst, it was an incredibly stupid thing to say and POTENTIALLY could have implications for Bowe and other KC Chiefs. Can any of you definitely say they WEREN'T escorts or prostitutes? Do you think it's possible there may be an investigation based on these stupid comments? Given Bowe's already checkered history with the new Chief's coaching staff, could this be a final straw and have him moved elsewhere? Might Goodell decide to sit down with him and have a meeting? I'm amazed how some of you are completely blowing this off as a non-story. It may very well be a non-story and I actually hope it is. But I'm also not naive enough to think this may not have potential consequences and may be worse than football players getting it on with a few groupies.

Now we have to prove negatives?

Can we prove they weren't escorts? No.

Can you prove they weren't aliens? Can you prove they weren't made from Marshmallow Fluff?

What would the investigation be based on? Bowe's admission that they flew women into town?

Sure....I have plenty of free time to speculate on speculation. Especially when it concerns something which I don't care about. Let me get right on that.

Now we have to prove negatives?

Can we prove they weren't escorts? No.

Can you prove they weren't aliens? Can you prove they weren't made from Marshmallow Fluff?

What would the investigation be based on? Bowe's admission that they flew women into town?
:goodposting: This story is more evidence that Bowe's an idiot with poor judgment but I don't think it's much more than that.

[big ben]Can you prove she was drunk?

Can you prove she said no?

Can you prove we had sex?

Can you prove I forced her into the bathroom and didn't let her leave?

[/big ben]
None of these women that were flown into town has, as far as we know, accused Bowe of anything illegal. And Bowe doesn't have prior accusations. Your comparison doesn't hold water. And I repeat my question, what would this investigation be based on?

:lmao: This story is more evidence that Bowe's an idiot with poor judgment but I don't think it's much more than that.
Agreed. I don't really think it will lead to anything in the way of investigation and/or discipline. It simply confirms what we already knew: Bowe isn't very smart.I do think he probably pissed off his teammates and the organization, however. As others have said, he basically implicated everyone on the team with the "woman in every room comment". That won't go over well with the married players/family men on the team.

My guess is that on the next road trip, instead of one of these beautiful MySpace/Facebook girls, Bowe finds a toothless, diseased, $10 tranny hooker in his room.

Bowe's a moron. And a vastly overrated NFL player. Good luck to those of you holding out hope he improves on early career success.

Chiefs should have dealt him last offseason when the rumors were out there. Won't get peanuts for the guy now.

Dwayne Bowe's Perception Problem Continues With "No Homo" Comment

onsider this bad timing on Dwayne Bowe's part.

I was just listening to What's Right with Nick Wright on 610 Sports where he had Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com as a guest. Wright played some audio of Bowe he got after Wednesday's practice.

Wright explained that the audio came roughly an hour before Florio had posted his story on Bowe's "importing" comments.

In the interview, Wright had asked Bowe how much of a difference it makes to have a full year playing with Matt Cassel. While discussing his relationship with Cassel, Bowe at one point he says "no homo", which is essentially slang for not gay.

Wright explained that the expression is used regularly "in the hip-hop world" and said that it wasn't meant to be an LJ-esque slur and that it just showed poor judgment on Bowe's part.

Florio made it clear that the words -- while not meant to be offensive -- are derived from a slur and is, at its core, a derogatory statement.

Again, I think most agree that Bowe isn't a bad guy. He has good intentions. The suspension last year came because he was trying to lose weight and get in the good graces of the head coach. His story on "importing women" ended up with him telling the girls no. And these "no homo" comments weren't said with the intention of being derogatory.

It just means that he has extremely poor judgment on a consistent basis. In a year when the Chiefs are making a point of publicizing their emphasis on the team captains they selected in the draft, Bowe's poor judgment is being magnified.

For the record, Florio's guess is that the Chiefs will investigate Bowe's "importing" story and take a hard look at what the next move (if any) should be.

He could simply mean that the younger players couldnt afford the cost of the flying the girls around the country. Its not shocker that women like to have sex with marginally famous men no matter who they are or what they look like. Its doubtful a professional football player would have to pay for the sex.
You don't pay them to show up, you pay them to go away.

Airfare and lodging sure, but the women will bump and grind for free.
Yeah, just ask Lawrence Taylor!

This is not good. I would be furious to find out this is what my employees were doing while I was paying them. They should be watching film or studying their playbook if their eyes are open. Save this crap for the offseason. No wonder the Chiefs are so bad. You don't hear about stuff like this happening with Indy.

I'm a little more lenient. I don't mind if my employees have sex.

On the job?
This isn't "on the job"--this is on their own time, on a business trip. The NFL doesn't own the players 24 hours a day.

I see two things that are trouble about the story:

a. In an offseason with a few sexual accusations already, this will not sit well with Goodell. This is not the reputation the commish wants.

b. The mothers and wives of the other Chief players will be mad. Can you imagine that discussion? I read a media member say today that Bowe might have to be traded because of the grief this gives his teammates.

Considering that Bowe is coming off a poor season, including being in Haley's doghouse, this is not going to endear him to his teammates and coaches. The story overshadows the other report on Bowe ... the one where he is making mistake after mistake. It will be Bowe's play on the field that matters, but this is another needless distraction.

Just FYI, they were not on the field, this was a hotel at night... not exactly on the job. I could understand the coaches getting pissed if they were having sex on the field during the game.
