[Dynasty] 2018 Draft Class (1 Viewer)

LSU RB Darrel Williams ran the 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Williams' (6'0/229) 40-yard dash was fourth-worst at the combine and is even worse when you consider his height and weight. Playing behind Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice at LSU, Williams was mostly used in short-yardage situations. DraftAnalyst.com's Tony Pauline had previously said Williams could be this year's Kareem Hunt, but other analysts aren't sure if he even gets drafted. Pauline sited his "great short-area quickness," and that was shown at the combine by putting up the 3rd-best 20-yard shuttle. After receiving positive reviews at the Senior Bowl in January it seems likely that Williams will be drafted.

Iowa State WR Allen Lazard said that he was open to the possibility of moving to tight end if that would increase his chances of making the NFL.

Lazard checked into the combine measuring a sturdy 6-foot-5, 225 pounds. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein believes that his frame and physicality could see him home as a better fit at tight end than receiver. He might lack the athleticism and speed necessary to play wideout in the NFL.

Wyoming QB Josh Allen has worked to correct his tendency to "overstride," according to SI's Bruce Feldman.

Apparently this overstride forced him to sail passes or miss to the right of his target. Allen improved during Senior Bowl week and will throw at Indianapolis at the NFL Combine, and he is certainly in play for the first overall pick.

LSU WR D.J. Chark recorded an official forty time of 4.34 at the 2018 NFL Combine.

Chark was the only receiver to go under 4.40 int he first group of receivers. This follows up a strong Senior Bowl with a blazing forty. At 6-foot-3 and 199 pounds, Chark is a tall vertical receiver and could find himself land in the second or third round.

NFL Media's Steve Smith believes Penn State WR DaeSean Hamilton runs the best routes in the 2018 class.

Smith added Hamilton is even better in this area than Alabama's Calvin Ridley. We are big fans of Hamilton's game, dating back to the East-West Shrine week when he was the best receiver there. That performance earned him a Senior Bowl invitation and Hamilton continued to shine. He could be a third-round selection.

There was never any question that Josh Allen would put on a show with his arm. The question is with his accuracy. As one personnel exec told me this week, "You can't coach accuracy. You may think you can, but you can't. Period."

True. So who do we think is the most accurate QB in this class? And what’s the best way to determine accuracy?

Florida WR Antonio Callaway ran a 40-yard dash of 4.41 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Callaway (5'11/200) turned in one of the better 40-yard dash times in the early group of wideouts. The combine is an absolutely crucial setting for the former Gator, who has a myriad of off-field issues to answer for -- most recently, a credit card fraud scam which led to a season-long suspension in 2017. Should Callaway somehow dance through the firestorm of NFL inquisition, he's a phenomenal athlete and could potentially end up a late-round steal. His baggage is very, very heavy, though.

Texas Tech WR Keke Coutee ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Coutee (5'10/181) put up a respectable 14 reps on the bench press on Friday, then went out and did his expected thing in the 40-yard dash Saturday morning. He's a wideout who brings to the table an explosive ability not only as a wideout, but also potentially as a special teams return man. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline notes that he's not only fast, but also tough and physical even despite his lack of overt size.

LSU WR D.J. Chark recorded a vertical jump of 40 inches and a broad jump of 129 inches.

Just a stellar showcase of athleticism by Chark across the board. He was the only wideout to touch 40 inches in the vertical and his 129 inches in the broad jump were topped only by D.J. Moore, Dylan Cantrell and Tre'Quan Smith. All of this on top of a 4.34-second jaunt through the 40-yard dash. He's a clear combine winner thus far, with NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah going so far as to say that he believes that Chark has secured himself a top-50 selection for the draft via his work in Indianapolis.

Sort of skipping over some posts so not sure if it’s been talked about yet but Shaqueem Griffin did 20 reps with a prosthetic left hand.... I need to go to the gym today.

Maryland WR D.J. Moore ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Ready for Moore's stock to lift off like a rocket? His performance in Indianapolis may well do that for him. His 40-yard dash was one of the best for a wideout at the combine, but that's not the end of his testing exploits. The 6-foot, 210-pound Maryland standout additionally posted impressive jumps of 39.5 inches (vertical) and 132 inches (broad), with the latter leap tops for his position. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein sees Moore's game as similar to that of former Terps wideout Stefon Diggs and stamps him with a Round 2 selection for the April draft. If he were to creep into the first round, that would surprise us none.

Oklahoma State WR James Washington ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Washington (5'11/213) didn't exactly break the sound barrier with his sprint, but he does tend to take a little bit of runway to get to full speed. In addition to his work in the 40-yard dash, he also registered jumps of 34.5 inches (vertical) and 120 inches (broad). Those leaps are fine, if relatively unnoteworthy. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein comps Washington to former Baylor receiver Corey Coleman and stamps the Oklahoma State standout with a Round 2 grade.

Notre Dame WR Equanimeous St. Brown ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

St. Brown (6'4/214) has been a standout performer since arriving in Indianapolis for his combine work. Not only did he show up more fully padded out just in terms of his measurement -- by a factor of over 10 pounds off his 203-pound Notre Dame listing in 2017 -- he posted a strong 20 reps in the bench press on Friday before coming out to run his slick 40-yard dash on Saturday. None of this comes as any surprise for Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom, who wrote in February that St. Brown was a prime contender to come on during the evaluating process after he was somewhat overlooked entering the winter due to the subpar passing offense he played in at Notre Dame. We would not be surprised if there's talk of St. Brown as a lock Day 2 selection once all is said and done in Indianapolis.

Mar 3 - 3:04 PM

Penn State TE Mike Gesicki ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Gesicki (6'5/247) tied with NC State's Jaylen Samuels for the top 40-yard dash time by a tight end on Saturday. He also notched a monster 129-inch broad jump. On the board of Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom, the big Penn State prospect ranks as the No. 4 tight end prospect in this draft class. He's not much to look out in terms of his blocking, but profiles as one of the better offensive tight ends in the pool. He figures to be a Day 2 selection, with some upside toward Day 1.

Cian Fahey has an interesting way of looking at QB accuracy as described in this article

I am not sure if he has charted the rookie QB in a similar way or not. Would be interesting to see.

I have heard a lot of talk about Lamar Jacksons raw completion percentage being low, but also that his WR dropped the most passes of the top QBs of the 2018 draft as well.

The way that Cian calculates completion percentage, taking into account what the receivers did on the play. A QB can throw an accurate catchable ball but the receiver just screws the play up, and that still counts as an incomplete pass as far as the raw completion percentage is concerned.

I love this. Thanks!

UCF WR Tre'Quan Smith ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds on Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Smith's time was slightly above-average compared to some of the other wide receivers in the class, but he had the second best broad jump of any wideout, showing that he has quality hops in his 6-foot-2, 203-pound frame. He was one of the best analytical receivers in football last year, and he showed on Saturday that he has the athleticism to possibly translate those numbers to the next level. He currently projects as a Day 2 selection.

Mar 4 - 12:05 AM

Colorado State WR Michael Gallup ran the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Gallup (6'1/205) came through with a fine, respectable time in the event as he looks to use this weekend in Indianapolis to solidify a potential second-round selection. We've seen a bit of variance when it comes to Gallup's evaluation, with one scout telling Bleacher Report's Matt Miller in February that the wideout was one of the more overrated prospects in the class. Pro Football Focus, on the other hand, loves Gallup -- on their metrics, his 2017 season graded out as the best among draft-eligible wideouts.

Penn State TE Mike Gesicki produced a composite score in the 99th percentile, third all-time for Combine TEs behind Vernon Davis and Dustin Keller.

As a whole, the 2017 tight end class was the most athletic group we have ever seen. Gesicki would have been the most athletic of the group. Simply put, Gesicki was fast in a straight line, jumped out of the gym and produced top 10 all-time numbers in his agility scores at 247 pounds. The agility scores were the biggest takeaway, as we have concerns about Gesicki's game at the top of his routes when asked to sink his hips, break on routes and create separation. Gesicki only helped himself on Saturday.

Philly and the Titans looking at running backs?!?!? Not sure how I feel about that. As an owner of Ajayi I’m not sure how I feel about that.

Maybe time to sell before the draft????

Tex
Well the eagles are up against the cap and only have a first n 4th rounder i believe and ajayi is only under contractone more season.... Tennessee has no one besides henry. They are drafting a rb.

Just talking isnt a red flag. Nfl teams need depth at  every spot

Great points, talking isn’t a red flag but the players they are talking to are very talented and would be a threat for playing time.

Both teams are going to have a slot open up for them with Blount a free agent and the Titans likely releasing Murray.

However the concern about the Eagles still splitting opportunities 2 or 3 ways is a real one and if you don't like that then perhaps you should consider moving Ajayi.

I thought Jay Ajayi looked good at times with the Eagles. He didn't look like the guy Gase described him as. He was much better as a receiver in terms of yards per reception than he was with Miami. I saw Jay make some good blocks during the playoffs as well. I am not sure that the Eagles will give him 60% or more of the RB opportunities though.

Who teams meet with can give you some clue about players they are interested in. Teams are interested in players they do not meet with as well though, so it does not tell the whole story. Teams will often meet with players they may have some questions about, get a reaction from the player to certain questions that helps the team decide if they should stay interested in the player or not. It doesn't mean teams are not also interested in players that they did not meet with though.

The Eagles met with Royce Freeman, Nyheim Hines , Ronald Jones, Kamryn Pettway, Jaylen Samuels, Bo Scarbourough, Akrum Wadley, Mark Walton, Darnell Williams. Most of these RB look like bargain hunting to me, guys the Eagles could draft with some later picks. Ronald Jones is the only one who has been talked about as a fairly high pick in mock drafts and so on. Several of these players seem like they might make good replacements for Blount such as Freeman and Scarbourough who are bigger RB.

I would think Ajayi could take over that role too, but obviously the Eagles would like to have some other options, even if they are happy with Ajayi and Clement now.

You're right AND my gut is telling me to sell before the draft. If they were satisfied with Ajayi and Clement then why are they kicking the tires? Hell, Jones is talented enough to take both of their position.

I haven't gotten back to watching Jones yet. Only have 3 games charted so I don't have a strong opinion about him yet.

From what I have seen he does not look better than Ajayi to me.

They are kicking the tires because Blount is a free agent and RB get hurt a lot.

You might be right again and Ajayi may have a decent year coming up but this just doesn't feel right. I could be wrong but considering all things, my gut is saying sell high. If I can get a 1st and I believe I can............I'm just going to move him. The amount of talent they are talking to is more than any other team in the NFL that just doesn't look good to me.

From what I recall of your roster you have a lot of starting caliber RB so moving the guy who has the most risk makes sense.

I did consider Ajayi a tier one RB prospect coming out. Jones is good. I just haven't seen enough of Jones for me to think he is more talented RB than Ajayi.

Because of what has happened with Ajayi so far in his career there are reasons to doubt.

He was drafted in the 5th round when many thought he was a 1st or 2nd round talent as a prospect.

He got benched and left behind game one of the 2016 season. Adam Gase used RBBC after Arian Foster was injured before begrudgingly making Ajayi the starter and focal point of their offense. Gase was able to win a bunch of games by doing this. He was resisting doing until he had no other choice. He gets traded to the Eagles midseason last year.

I mean in my personal view Gase is wrong, but clearly I do not know all of the little things going on.

Those are all indicators of risk that may not even be related to Jay Ajayi on the football field. Maybe those things are not an issue now that he has a change of scene but I think any owner should be uncomfortable about Ajayi as a long term prospect.

Then you have the knee injury that may shorten the quality of his career as another possible risk as well.

It wasn't easy for me to rank Ajayi last year and won't be any easier this year. I don't know how to factor in Jay Ajayis relationship with coaches and teammates  I know I see a talented player though when I watch him. Clement looked better with the Eagles than I thought he looked with Wisconsin.

Yes my roster is a little deep at that position. If you remember I too am and was a Huge fan of Ajayi coming out of college as there wasn’t very many of us defending him. I tend to agree with you on many things I guess we just view certain things similarly. I too wasn’t expecting this from Clements, I never saw that coming. It made me feel much better about things knowing Blount would possibly be gone that would only leave Clement to share the ball with but now they are kicking the tires on younger athletes that I have very high on my board. From where I’m sitting if they draft one of them that’s not good in my book. Could they opt for lesser talent? Sure but it’s not known but what we do know is they are interviewing some very gifted RBs right now and I don’t like it.
