Dynasty Advice (1 Viewer)

I started a Dynasty league last year and we're going into our second year.

I'm wondering if some other's could offer up some advice on how you handle players that get released by their team?

For example, I have an owner that has S Alexander & T Henry. Both are FA's, released by his team. The owner has both of them signed to contracts that take them through this year.

The way the rules are set up, if you release a player, you have to pay 50% of that players salary in that current season. Of course the owner wants to release them without penalty, but I feel that you must honor that contract. This also makes me think, what if the NFL intervenes and allows an NFL team out of their contractual obligation. Would that carry over to the fantasy league?

Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

Thanks!

You have to follow the rules. If you don't this time, you will open up a huge can of worms the next time someone challenges a rule. This one is pretty black and white.

The NFL actually already allows for teams to not pay players that get released. That's why players are always clammoring for more $, because thier contracts are not guaranteed.

In this case, you need to decide what the rule for your league will be, since this seems to have not happend in your league before. I would suggest polling your owners to see what they would be satisfied with for a rule, since the league is already up and running. This way guys don't feel forced by a rule you put into place. It will make them feel like they made the decision, and will not be as upset if it happens to them.

I think in the long run, it should be that if your guy gets released your on the hook for the contract. However, if he retires (in case you haven't thought about that yet) then you don't have to pay.

I think he is asking how it should impact a cap system, not whether guys get that money. AB is right that if the rules clearly state they count 50%, then that's what they should count against this owner's cap.

The league that I am in is this way. If you sign the player to a contract, you accept the penalty if you cut that player before the contract is finished. Unless that player RETIRES his NFL status doesn't matter. (Cut, sucks, not starting, etc.)

You might stick with the rules you have,

note the ones that need changing are missing.

Generate a list.

After a few years,

when the league has some experience to base a new set of rules on,

consider starting new rules with two years notice or starting over or a new league.

If you start changing rules now, it will never end. July/Aug is not a good time. Jan/Feb better IMHO.
