[DYNASTY] Bernard Berrian (1 Viewer)

With the start of the season only a few days away, now is your last chance to buy low on Bernard Berrian. He is currently ranked outside the top 30 WRs in redraft leagues and outside the top 35 WRs in dynasty leagues. If he stays healthy this season, he will finish in the top 20 WRs and leap up the dynasty WR rankings by 10-20 spots.

Why do I think Bernard Berrian is primed for a breakout season?

- He has clearly passed Muhsin Muhammad as Chicago's #1 WR.

- Rex Grossman throws a good deep ball. Berrian is his favorite target.

- Berrian demonstrated his potential last season and in the playoffs. He finished the year with career highs in yards and TDs. He averaged 75+ receiving yards per game during Chicago's three playoff games.

- He is a dynamic playmaker who was considered a top 10 NFL prospect at one point in his college career.

- Berrian will be a free agent after the season. He has a lot of incentive to play well this year.

- He has been unstoppable in training camp.

Bernard Berrian has talent and opportunity. Now that he's poised to become a WR1, he will almost certainly deliver a nice return on the investment that it requires to add him to your redraft or dynasty team.

I agree. I picked him up last year for cheap & still have him.The telling sign for me was that before his injury, Grossman looked unstoppable (average QB rating around 90), but once Berrian got taken out - even after he came back - the rating dropped to an average of ~65 (if I've done my math right). I didn't think Berrian looked the same the rest of the season. If he stays healthy, I think he could be a big player - definitely a solid WR2 in a 12-team league, if not better. I think the offense depends on him in a way that is not often as obvious as it is critical.

I got him in a redraft and didn't pay attention to where he came off the board. 42nd WR. Slight steal if you ask me. Went after guys like Michael Clayton, Greg Jennings and the rookie Gonzalez. :loco:

I am not as high on Berrian as other people are. Berrian disappears too much in games. He has to be more consistent. Berrian had 7 games with fewer than 5 fantasy points last year...and many of them, he did not face the opponents top CB. He will likely see more #1 CBs this year, and I question how well he can do against them. I have to see more out of him before I consider him anywhere near the top 20-30. I would not feel comfortable with Berrian as anything more than a WR4, because he is better suited as a spot starter fantasy wise than an every week starter. I'm not convinced his talent is so good that he will be a top 20 WR down the road, and I don't see any way he finishes in the top 20 this year.

If he had been more consistent then he'd be ranked higher and we wouldn't be having this conversation. The reason undervalued guys are undervalued is because they haven't put up consistent numbers. I think it's going to happen for Berrian this season for reasons which I've already outlined. I'll go out on a limb and say that Berrian is the best skill position player on the Bears. I think Benson is an average (or worse) NFL back. Muhammad is on the decline. Greg Olsen is still developing. Grossman knows what he has in Berrian. Berrian is going to be the team's main weapon in the passing attack. Any WR who receives lots of targets is a threat to have a big season. I definitely think Berrian will capitalize on his opportunity. He's had some trouble staying healthy in the past, but if he plays 16 games then I think he will outproduce the following players:Calvin JohnsonJerricho CotcheryJoey GallowayMark ClaytonChris ChambersIsaac BruceVincent JacksonDJ HackettDonte StallworthI think he has a realistic chance of outproducing the following players:TJ HoushmandzadehHines WardLaveranues ColesRandy MossSantana MossBraylon EdwardsDeion BranchMark ClaytonSantonio Holmes

:goodposting: I also think part of Berrian's inconsistencyfalls directly on the shoulders of Rex Grossman. He is a great buy relative to his ADP at this time.

He's certainly got upside, but I think many are too presumptuous that he's passed Muhammad as the clear cut #1 WR.

I agree...great upside, especially in league's that award bonus points for long Tds. I'm starting him over R. Moss this week, and will have a hard time benching him any week for that matter.

Loved watching him when Carr was tossing him the ball at Fresno, and athletically he is on par with the games best. I'm not sure he is big/strong enough to be an elite #1, but I think some team throws him #1 money in the off-season.

This is a great summary of my thoughts on Berrian...I've got Calvin, completely unproven, as my WR3 and I wouldn't trade him for Berrian straight up...

Wasn't Berrian hurt last year?

I am also high on Berrian. IIRC he was top 10 in our fantasy league last year after the first 5 weeks then he slipped way down. He seems to be a boom or bust each game he plays and alot of it depends on Rex. In the pre-season, he was targeted several times on shorter routes which will hopefully continue and allow him to be more consistent. I was shopping him in my dynsast league but I decided that his value was too low for what I projected to to do this year. The other owners are gonna be mad they didn't get him while he was cheap.

Berrian is the WR22 in my PPR league. He hasn't had a great season, but his yardage has been fairly steady and he's on pace for his first 1,000 yard season. Not bad. :banned:

Imagine what his production would be like with some stability at the QB position.

This may be reason enough to buy low on him... if the Bears don't pony up he may find himself in situation better suited to fantasy success.... he seems to have a knack for getting open, if you ask me. If the Bears do resign him, and have a decent QB in place, I'd love to have him.

Berrian is too one dimensional to become an elite WR. He's a deep threat only.
I don't know about that. He gets open all over the field and has shown the ability to make incredible catches. I think his game is reminiscent of Chad Johnson, Darrell Jackson, and Reggie Wayne. He could put up pretty good numbers in a friendly system.

Berrian is a very good WR... hes made some Great Catches this season; hes turned into a decent WR #2 in larger leagues. I don't see CJ or Wayne.. those guys are much bigger Physically. I see him developing into another Coles type WR.Next yr will be very interesting yr for him... Will Chi-Town keep him (Tag or Sign Him)? Will they bring in a Vet QB like McNabb or Penny?I Traded a 1st rd pick for him mid-season to build some depth for the play-off run. Of course that guys' team didn't get into the Play-offs and that Pick turned into 1.05... but I can't complain; I most likely wouldn't be in the race if I didn't make the move for Berrian. And I like having a developed player in their prime than a roll of the dice, even if it was a top 5 roll.
