Votes don't agree. I know Bloom and others are fans of Robinson, and I would like to hear more about him. How are his hands? Good route runner? Can he thrive as a #2 WR even with the question marks at QB for the Falcons?Seems to be a push IMO.
As an aside, I really like these faceoffs. If you run out of ideas for them let me know because I'm sure I can find a few.
White is the key problem for Robinson IMO. The Falcons QB situation isn't good but White has shown that he can be a true #1 WR and is just coming into his own. Things could change with a new QB but I just think White is a better WR and there won't be enough for Robinson.Demetrius isn't in a much better situation but he has #1 WR talent and while Clayton is a good WR I don't think he's good enough to keep the ball out of Demetrius' hands. We saw nothing from Williams in 2007 (because McNair was awful. Boller was better, but that's not saying much. At least he can throw the ball over 20 yards. I really like White in Atlanta. Robinson had a nice 70-some odd yard TD catch vs. Arizona (where Artell Rolle got caught guessing on a route). The answer is probably the team that can find a long-term QB first as far as seeing which one will be more productive. (I see White/Clayton the 1's in Atl/Balt so developing QB's is imperative for the #2 WR's to get their consistent numbers).
Jeff, wondering why you say Williams is a one trick pony going deep. A few games I saw Williams this season I was impressed on how he used his hands and caught the ball in tough spots. Scout.com Player Evaluation:I like Dem's skills, but I think LRob's upside is higher. Demetrius has been a one-trick pony ("go deep") for the most part - and that's SEVERELY limited with McNair under center. Kyle Boller can chuck it - but do we really want to see that?
Neither one actually has good QBs. (Oddly enough, Chris Redman was also once a Raven - aren't too many ex-Raven QBs floating around in the NFL - at least that get to play). Also Mason (older) and Mark Clayton (younger) impede Demetrius' upside. Assuming the Ravens get a QB, Demetrius will be the "Berrian" to Clayton's "Mushin". That's the upside (the deep threat). Think Burress/Toomer, Holmes/Ward - teams like one deep threat and one possession guy.
LRobinson can be both - and that's how you become elite. Plus the rest of the team is underwhelming, even with Roddy White's emergence (which I still don't quite get, but I'm starting to hear enough to reevaluate him).
Plus - Atlanta stinks. That means they will throw. Maybe not forever, but for 1-2 years certainly. Baltimore's defense is (allegedly) good, and certainly > Atlanta. That limits the passing attack.
I'd lean LRob but it is closer than you'd think. LRob's upside is a WR1, and Dem's is WR2. Downside for both is bottomless.
I never knew Demetrius was white......deceptive speed...
