Dynasty: How long can Antonio Gates remain elite? (1 Viewer)

Simple question: will gates follow the path of Tony G and be productive into his mid 30s or will he fall off a cliff in the next season or two. Thoughts? And what do you do with him in dynasty?

I am kinda happy I only have for one more year in my contract league...I think anyway. That foot problem won't go away and is finally effecting his play, I fear the cliff dive.

The foot problems may affect whether or not he actually plays, but it clearly wasn't affecting his play when he was on the field.

Ya it was, he couldn't run as quick and definately couldn't cut or plant on it like he was earlier in the season. To answer your question, I think we need to see how he comes back at the beginning of next season. If this thing goes away and he's able to play on it at 90 percent or higher, then the guy can be elite for several more years. If he's dinged to start the season, then I'd start to have some major reservations about him staying healthy for long periods of time. Right now I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll be back and ready to roll next year.

He has shown an ability to play with pain and he clearly still has elite ability. I expect at least another two or three years. I would expect his career trajectory to be similar to Gonzalez.

He's had this same foot problem each of the last 3 offseasons, it finally stopped his season this year so it's only getting worse.

3 years left as a top-3 TE. Plays in a pass-heavy offense, is more athletic than Gonzalez was and is likely to be a clear #1 with VJax leaving. I think double digit TDs and 1k+ yards are likely at some point in the next 2-3 years and the others won't be far off.

It hasn't been the same thing. I believe he had a toe issue which is on his foot, but it's not the same injury.

Over compensation.
