DYNASTY: If Bush actually does sit out this year (1 Viewer)

So, while it's highly unlikely this will be an issue, say for example that Reggie Bush does indeed sit out this season and go back into the draft. How would your leagues handle this situation? Would the guys who drafted him this year retain his rights, or would they be forfeited because he was redrafted?

Our rules don't specifically cover this, so I'm going to our commissionners to get a ruling ahead of time, and was just wondering what the typical rule was out there.

I am pretty sure the Saints own the rights to signing him. They would have to give up those rights for him to enter the draft again. I doubt that would ever happen.

FWIW, he'd be kept in our league by the guy that drafted him. Just like any guy that's drafted and doesn't play a snap. Signing or no signing, it doesn't matter.

I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't be able to. In one dynasty league I'm in Bush went 1.3 and 1.5. I think those two owners would be pretty upset if they had to throw him back in next years rookie draft. And I can't say that I would blame them!

In practice I don't think this should be much of an issue. Most leagues are going to have rules that a fantasy team gets the rights to the player, with explicit mention of the methods (trading, cutting) by which a team can give up those rights.

If this isn't included in the explicit list, then the fantasy team wouldn't lose the rights to him. If it is explicitly listed, then the fantasy team would lose his rights.

The Tampa Bay Bucs, who used their 1st round pick on Bo Jackson in 1986 only to see him go play Major League Baseball for the KC Royals and then the Raiders get him for a 7th round pick in 1987, wish what you said above was true.

The Saints will have rights to him up until the day of next years draft, then he is released back to the draft (Just as JD Drew did a few years ago to the Phillies). In Fantasy, keeper/dynasty, I think you keep the rights, as it is not you who couldn't get him signed, it was the Aints.

same with drew henson...

HOU drafted him, than had to trade him to somebody (in this case DAL) before the next draft or they would have lost the rights to him... DAL didn't want to risk losing him either in general draft so they did the deal...
