DYNASTY -- Next year's 3rd year WR sleepers (1 Viewer)

For those of us out of the running in our dynasty leagues, the time for stashing young players for next season is drawing near (Otis just has a few days left). Guys like Santonio Holmes and Greg Jennings are obviously already rostered, but who are the likely unrostered WRs who will be entering the magic third year next season and could have the talent/situation to emerge?

I'll start.

Chad Jackson (drafted 36 overall)

Guy was a combine hero and was all the rage on draft day. With that NE pass offense looking outstanding, can he get a shot to redeem himself after two disappointing seasons? Or has the acquisition of Randy Moss all but sealed his fate?

Sinorice Moss (drafted 41 overall)

Started to get some looks from Eli. Could he emerge as the compliment to Burress next season?

Derek Hagan (82 overall)

Miami? Oof. Starting to record some offensive stats though, and coming off a nice 8-catch game two weeks ago. I liked this guy coming into the NFL, and the offense sure hasn't given him much opportunity yet. With Chambers gone, might he now have that opportunity?

Maurice Stovall (90 overall)

They sure still could use a WR to emerge in TB. Guy was highly touted as a potential fantasty stud coming into the season, but hasn't done much with it.

Scanning the rest of the draft class, I really only see nobodys and guys who are already rostered in any league (e.g., Brandon Marshall).

Thoughts on these four candidates? Any others?

Hasn't the "3rd year breakout rule" for WRs been disproven?
Rule or not, there are quite a few WRs who required the first two season in the NFL to mature and adjust to the game and game speed before emerging as legitimate offensive threats. Chad Johnson is a great example, and there are many others. Unlike the RB position, which the talented rookies often succeed at immediately, the WR position requires a bit more time to adjust to at the NFL level. No, you're right, there's no hard rule, but if there's a class year I'm going to take some flyers on going into next season at the WR position, that will be the one.

I think Chad Jackson is a great example of a sleeper. Supposedly, he's been working extremely hard and iirc, a Stallworth, Moss, etc. were all signed to 1 year deals. Jackson was on the PUP for most of this season.

Who knows if the Pats pay Moss big time if he asks for it.

Chad broke out in his 2nd year. I think we've gone over that the 2nd year is just as likely (or not likely) as the 3rd year for breakouts. That said, a few guys I'm watching, whether they're 2nd or 3rd year guys:Laurent Robinson (Roddy looks to be the guy there, but this guy has some skills too; depends on QB, of course)Jacoby Jones (didn't get much PT, and Walter and Davis played well; but I think he shows something next year)James Jones (showed glimpses; a lot of mouths to feed on that team though)Sidney Rice (not much of a sleeper, of course)

I'm not convinced Jackson is worth much. I expect they'll keep Stallworth or Moss but not both. That leaves Welker and Gaffney - who has played well of late - ahead of Jackson. I just don't see Jackson leapfrogging like that.
