Dynasty owners: (1 Viewer)

For the Dynasty Owners out there, tell us the best trades you made and the worst. Let us know when the trade "went down" as well so it can be more easy to relate to.

Here is my story: 2 seasons ago, fall of 2005, I was in dead last in my dynasty league and it was right before our trade deadline for the season. Time to make a purge and rebuild for future. My 1st round draft pick RB's weren't panning out too well from the past few years (Chris Brown/Julius Jones) and I had some decent finds on the waiver wire in the offseason with Brian Westbrook, I think Westy was around the 15th-20th best RB in our scoring system or so in 2005. I had no WR's at all in our top 15 fantasy points. Most everyone at the time in this forum didn't have much faith in Westy....said he's too small, not an everydown back...will get hurt etc. etc. etc.

My strategy for 2006...get as many young RB's as possible via the draft and get a veteran stud WR via trade since rookie WR's are so hard to predict.

I targeted another bad record owner (to target a high draft pick) and we did the following trade:

He got:

Chris Chambers and Brian Westbrook

I got Joe Horn (who in 2005 was like the #7 or #8 WR or so...was not that old and very consistent for several years past..targeted as a good value pick).

and his 1st round pick (which turned out to be #2 overall).

The verdict:

Losing Chambers hasn't hurt too much at all.

Westbrook is #2 RB in our scoring system this year (never saw this one coming at all)

Joe Horn was worthless in 2006/07....instantly fell off the map after I aquired him (I thought he had at least 2-3 years of top 10 WR left in him)

I thought I was in great shape for a rebuild. I had the #1 and #2 overall rookie picks last year.

I took Reggie Bush at #1 (no surprise) and DeAngelo Williams at #2 (from all of the reading in the forums..Maroney, Addai and Williams were all pretty much a cointoss at #2)

So neither of those 2 picks have really worked out for me yet, although I guess the verdict is still out somewhat on Williams. Bush is looking to be a bust though (TD heavy scoring league...no PPR)

Well there it is. Everything looked brilliant but none of the players panned out (except for the 1 guy I targeted at my RB's Westy whom I thought was in a "sell high" situation at the time).

The best trade I've made: All of the ones that I initiated but I couldn't close the deal with the other owners (couldn't come to terms)...most of those trades, the other owners would have benefited greatly.

I've dropped Romo, E Graham, J Fargas, and probably others from my dynasty team over the past couple of years.

The Romo move probably has you beating your head against the wall, but if it makes you feel any better...I don't think anyone can honestly say they saw the E. Graham situation working out the way it has. Thats just pure luck/bad luck in my book.

I traded Rivers for Ben straight up this preseason. That's worked out pretty well so far. I also traded a first round pick for Fitz 2 years ago.

On the downside I traded a first round pick last year for Culpepper and Michael Clayton.

The good ones:

Right before his first season as a starter, I gave up Jeremy Shockey for Tony Gonzalez and Willie Parker (I was a Duce Staley owner). That turned out to be an outright steal.

This past season I gave up Drew Brees and got the guys 1st rounder and Tom Brady! (the first rounder turned out to be the 8th overall in a 12 teamer, not that it mattered.)

The one I still have nightmares about:

I gave up Shaun Alexander to the Ricky Watters owner for some random guy whose name I do not even remember. This one only stopped hurting last year.

In my 12 team dynasty keeper (keep everybody) i fell on hard times. To turn things around, I traded for Ronnie Brown and Matt Leinart before their first NFL games, very mixed resultsI also signed Willie Parker and Marques COlston before they did anything. When Ronnie got hurt this year i traded Fast Willie for 4 picks. Next year, i have Ronnie, Leinart, Colston and Witten to build an offense around, we will see what happens

Ben/Rivers isn't that big a deal. 1st rounder for Culpepper/Clayton isn't huge mistake...your 1st rounder (unless its like a top 2-3 pick) has alot of bust potentially anyway. Now I think you struck gold on acquiring Fitz by giving up a 1st rounder.

fall 06 traded shockey for brady straight up, he had no tight end at all and his backup eli was coming off a promising season.

Then of course this fall 07 with the same owner I trade romo for evans, which sucked because I could have did way better than evans in the middle of the year, I didnt even start evans all year.

Just started dynasty last year.

2006 midseason trade

Gave: Brees, Shaun Alexander, Maurice Morris, LenDale White

Got: McNair, Ronnie Brown, Plaxico Burress, Kerry Collins and 2nd round pick (through trading up turned into Dwayne Bowe)

2007 midseason trade

Gave: Dwayne Bowe, Greg Olsen, Cedric Benson and Plaxico Burress

Got: Chad Johnson, Derek Anderson, Chester Taylor and Owen Daniels.

Edited to add:

My worst was probably NOT trading Cedric Benson straight up for Portis.

Chris Brown for Deion Branch in start 3 WR Dynasty. This was after week one. I then moved Jason Campbell, Julius Jones, and Branch for Anquan Boldin and Pennington and picked up Clemens with my open slot. This was prior to Clemens becoming the starter.

I also moved Vince Young and DeShaun Foster and a 2nd Round pick next year for Carson Palmer in dynasty.

In our scoring, Ben has 266 points, Rivers has 161. I'd say that's a pretty big deal.

I traded Brees and Ryan Grant for Eli Manning and Lorenzo Booker ...

In another league, I traded Randy Moss for Chester Taylor right before they drafted Peterson ...

These moves pain me ...

Desperate for RB's, I traded Larry Fitz during the 2005 rookie draft for a low 1st rounder which I used on Ciatrick Faison. :lmao:

A couple good ones from earlier in the year(two different leagues)

League one: Before the season started, i traded Larry Johnson for Big Ben, Andre Johnson, 1.5 and 2.5 rookie picks. I selected Brandon Jackson, but quickly traded him for Santonio Holmes. Selected Drew Stanton with 2.5

League two: A week or two into the season, traded Thomas Jones, Nick Collins, and Bart Scott for a first round rookie pick. It ended up being the 1.1 :lmao:

2 bad ones come to mind in my local league.

August 2000- Traded Ahman Green and a defensive back for the #11 rookie pick. With it I picked Sylvester Morris.

reasoning- I had 2 stud rb's (M. Faulk+ S. Davis) and 1 or 2 other decent starters and Dorsey Levens was coming off a pretty good season of 1500-1600 total yards and 10 td's and I didn't see the Packers looking to change starters anytime soon.

August 2004- I gave up the #4 rookie pick for Travis Henry who had a terrible injury plagued season. I did win the league that year thanks to LJ and the trade I made for Droughns plus Peytons great year.

I've made a few good ones, but a lot of bad ones.

Good:

Traded Darrell Jackson and Ron Dayne for Roy Williams and Marion Barber a couple of years ago

Traded Vernon Davis for Chris Cooley and what turned out to be a 1.01 pick last year

Traded Tony Gonzalez, Deion Branch, and Reggie Brown for Terrell Owens after he got suspended from PHI

Traded Samkon Gado for a first round pick

Bad:

Traded Carson Palmer, Marvin Harrison, and the 1.02 draft pick for Culpepper...6 months before Culpepper blew out his knee

Traded Tom Brady this past offseason for Laurence Maroney (before Moss deal was announced)

Traded Randy Moss and 1.07 pick this past offseason for Vince Young (before Moss deal was announced)

Traded 1.01 for 1.03 (Marshawn Lynch), 1.05( Dwayne Bowe), and DeAngelo Williams. Not a horrible deal, but still sucks to deal away "All Day"

The one for which I will forever kick myself was back in '03 or '04, dynasty, had two offers for William Green straight up: Correll Buckhalter or Brian Westbrook. I didn't choose wisely.

A recent good one was in '05 in another dynasty (PPR) with a team in rebuilding mode. Traded JP Losman to him for his Rd 1, which ended up being 1.01 and Reggie Bush.

GAVE: Brady, Addai

GOT: Palmer, Maroney, Colston

Before the season started...Man, am I kicking myself right now!

i got

chad johnson and leinart

I don't make bad trades.

In 2004 I traded:

Kevan Barlow and Onterrio Smith

for

Ladainian Tomlinson

The sick thing is, the LT owner offered this to me. I couldn't click accept fast enough.

I gave up Sinorice Moss and Kameron Wimbley for MJD one yr and this yr I got Reggie Wayne & Drew Brees for Rivers and Steve Smith.

My best move.... C.Chmabers & J.Russell for Braylon Edwards and Brandon Marshall.

I also gave up Brees & Alexander for LT2 this yr in my keeper.

Worst is easy: Mid to late summer, I initiated a trade where I sent Brandon Marshall to the opposition for V. Morency (needed RB depth and I figured he could beat out BJAX). To make it worse, it was a PPR league.

Best deal was a blockbuster made in January of 2007.

We gave up P. Manning, Joey Galloway and a 4th for Brady, T. Henry and Coles... down the stretch those guys faded, but we got the #1 scorer in our league, a RB1 going into the season and a WR2 that helped our depth.

In our scoring format...

Brady 395 pts - Peyton 269 pts

Henry 102pts and Coles 107 pts - Galloway 136 pts

For 2007, that trade favored us in points scored 604 - 405 (199 point difference) and when it took place most thought we got the bad end of it.

this was not me but a bad traded in my main dyansty league

owner A gaves

FWP

owner B gaves

russell, henry(RB Tenn) and t. jones

funny thing is the owner that got FWP made it the championship game this week but Parker got hurt and got him zero PTs.

Bad:Traded Carson Palmer, Marvin Harrison, and the 1.02 draft pick for Culpepper...6 months before Culpepper blew out his kneeTraded Tom Brady this past offseason for Laurence Maroney (before Moss deal was announced)Traded Randy Moss and 1.07 pick this past offseason for Vince Young (before Moss deal was announced)Traded 1.01 for 1.03 (Marshawn Lynch), 1.05( Dwayne Bowe), and DeAngelo Williams. you're making me feel better here for my many screw ups, thanks. ouch man! that had to have killed trading away brady and moss this last offseason.

Going into the playoffs last year in my dynasty league, I traded Addai for FWP straight up. That's why FWP has slowly driven me insane this year, capped off by the broken leg in my championship game, who I'm playing against the same team that beat me last year. Ugggh.

In 2004 I traded Boo Williams and Justin Fargas for Robert Green and *drumroll* Antonio Gates. That's worked out nicely for me.

The other owner did have Alge Crumpler at TE so he didn't need Gates. :loco:

Best trade:

In 2005, I traded Carson Palmer, Chris Cooley and a 1st for Terrell Owens, Drew Brees and a 3rd. It didn't help me much that year. It certainly helped me a lot in 2006.

In 2004 I traded Boo Williams and Justin Fargas for Robert Green and *drumroll* Antonio Gates. That's worked out nicely for me. The other owner did have Alge Crumpler at TE so he didn't need Gates.
Oh that reminded me of another blunder trade I made....I gave up a late 1st round rookie draft pick for Boo Williams. Man was he worthless. Not saying I wouldn't have picked a turd in the rookie draft as well but Boo was a bust for sure.

I make a lot of trades so I am sure there are plenty of bad ones I am forgetting, but:

I traded my 2008 1st round college pick and received Gado.

I traded Willis McGahee and received AJ Hawk.

On the flip side, I traded SA for A.Johnson and Favre before this season.

I take a lot of risks in trades because our league is deep (16 teams w/IDP) and the only way to get a guy that makes a difference is to make an offer the other guy can't refuse. Makes it more interesting, at least.

Not dynasty but a contract league in 2003...

Torry Holt - 2 years unresignable

Jimmy Smith - 3 years unresignable

for

William Green - 4 years resignable

I wish I could still find the poem written by a league member about that trade.

traded away roy williams for brandon marhsall and a 1st rounder (8th or 9th pick)

traded away larry johnson and reggie brown for steve smith 1st and 3rd rounder

Actually my best trade this yr...I traded Jerious Norwood for Tj Housh and his 1st rd pick...and that ended up being the #1 overall pick next yr.

Gave: JP Losman

Got: Jason Witten

Gave: Roy Hall

Got: 2nd Round pick

Gave: Mike Bell, Travis Henry, 1.10

Got: Portis

after Brady Quinn was drafted by another owner I gave up

Anderson, Derek CLE QB;Frye, Charlie SEA QB

for McNair, Steve BAL QB; Year 2007 Draft Pick 7.08

plus to the same owner

gave up wes welker plus several others

for Roy Williams -Det - WR

that owner beat me our for the last palyoff spot this year .

At the end of the 2006 season, i was offered the teams first round pick, which was likely gong to bo the 1.1, for Maroney. I declined, he ended up with the 1.1(AD)

Early this season, i was offered AD and a 2nd round rookie pick for SJax, i declined. That one is not nearly as bad, but i kind of regret not taking it.

Best:

Aug. 2006: Traded T.J. Duckett and Kirk Morrison for Marion Barber and Derek Hagan

Aug. 2006: Traded Andrew Walter for 2007 2nd round pick (2.10)

Apr. 2007: Traded 1.4 (Jamarcus Russell) 2.10 (Poz), and 2008 1st (1.11 or 1.12) for 1.01 (Adrian Peterson) and 3.01 (Brian Leonard).

Worst:

Nov. 2005: Traded Mark Clayton for Rod Smith

Sept. 2005: Traded Carson Palmer and David Givens for Roy Williams and Chad Pennington.

Aug. 2007: Traded Julius Jones and Roy Williams for Cedric Benson, Donald Driver, and 2008 2nd round pick (2.9)

Best trades were trading Priest Holmes for SA after the last year Holmes was top dog along with sending Stallworth packing for TO 2 years ago.

3 Trades that I made in one dynasty league before the season started and a huge reason why I'm in the championship this week:

1. Gave up: Maroney

Get: KJ and Brandon Marshall

2. Gave up: Peyton Manning

Get: Tom Brady and Chris chambers and Tashard CHoice (College development pick)

3. Gave up: Steve Smith, Chester Taylor

Get: Randy Moss and Brandon Jacobs

All 3 of these deals worked out very well which rarely happens for me.

I've made too many good trades to list them all, but I did one HORRIBLE trade this year, before the season started.

I traded away Edwards, Marshall, 3.8 pick (Brian Leonard) and 2.3 (Craig Davis) for Javon Walker, 1.10 pick (Robert Meachem) and 2.4 pick (RB Chris Henry). I realize that next year I could actually get some return from my guys, but for this year, that was BRUTAL. When you add up the points scored by the players involved, he got 616.30 pts from me, I got 80.10 from him. :X :( :(

Game over, I lose.

Although I did pick up Wes Welker on the wire after week 1, and am in the SB finals this week, so I can't say the trade ruined my team or anything. Just painful to look at now.

New to dynasty this year - adopting one team and drafting another.

The adopted team:

Gave - Steve Smith and SA

Got - SJax & (what ended up being) the 10th overall pick in 08 (to go along w/ my #3 pick via a previous deal)

It was below mkt value for SJax, but this league is salary cap regulated, and he's available for bidding next year (the other owner already had LJ and Gore). I can franchise tag him, but will have to match the best offer. Aside from getting SJax as my core to build with, I did it b/c it's a TD heavy scoring league (to pair w/ Westy), and I'm seeded #2 for the playoffs (15-17).

New league has been VERY quiet w/ trades - maybe since it's the first year. Hopefully it will pick up in the offseason.
