Dynasty Rookie Draft (1 Viewer)

There have been many posts and many opinions on the ranking of the rookies for dynasty value. If you have a close decision do you consider drafting a rookie based on who is on your current roster? How much of your decision would be based on a handcuff in dynasty. Say if you thought you could have your choice of Kevin Smith, Ray Rice or Chris Johnson and you value them equally would having Lendale or McGahee on your roster push you to draft their handcuff? Or do you base your choice completely on talent since things change in the NFL so fast?

 In a tie on talent, I'd look at other factors like my roster, but in dynasty don't sleep on talent.

Personally I take the best player available. But if a tie, I would take the handcuff....regretfully. The problem with handcuffs is unless there isa true 1: LT/Hester, LJ/Charles you run the risk of struggling every week with which to start: Stewart/DWill, Lendale/Johnson, etc....

In a tie, I take the handcuff.

I can't imagine considering handcuffs with my first round rookie pick. That's such an important pick that you absolutely have to take the better player. If you don't have any preference on the 1st round RB's, my advice would be to get one. There are certainly a number of difference between these players.

I think developing opinions on players with similar perceived value is one of main appeals of playing fantasy football. However, another appeal is in developing your distinct strategy, so I can't knock you for considering handcuffs. Still, for what it's worth, I think you're asking for trouble with the 1st round handcuff strategy.
