Currently we have 300 players that are rostered in my dynasty league(10 teams). We are debating on whether to increase the rosters to 32 for next year(26 active, 6 taxi). That would give us a total of 320 players rostered. I'm trying to get a gauge on what the consensus size is for a dynasty league with NO IDP's. Leagues come in all sizes so that is why I'm asking for a total roster size.
The question asks for more questions.... how many do you start, how many draft picks can you take, etc. With a 10x30 league as you describe, I cannot tell if you start 8 players or 15.
The fewer you start, the lower the chances of the "projects" on the end of your bench are to ever get in your starting lineup.
For example, if you start 1/2/2/1/1/1, then only the Top 10 QBs, 20 RBs and WRs, and Top 10 TEs should ever be playing. The rostering of players to try and get to that Top 10/20 figure should be about 3x of that number, not counting K and D. So if you have just 6 offensive position players, that would mean 18 spots. If you start 2 QB, 3 RB, 4 WR, 1 TE and a flex or two, I can see a need for a deeper roster.
Also, if you don't have a taxi squad, the more bench you have to allocate to your draft picks in the hopes that they pan out. Marques Colston was drafted in only the very deepest of Dynasty leagues, but if the roster room was an issue, he was on the waiver wire more than likely before Week 1.
