Dynasty Stash for 2022 (1 Viewer)

JAK Straw

Looking for players to stash for next season and beyond. There will be a lot of articles coming out later in the season on this topic, but often those are too late for 2021 roster deadlines. Who can we consider adding now, while free agency is still open in dynasty leagues, that might be on waivers?

I'm looking at Cedrick Wilson, WR, DAL, who is a FA after the season and could land a more significant role with another team.

Also eyeing Josh Palmer, WR, LAC. He's already showing signs in his rookie season, and Mike Williams is a FA next year, possibly opening a starting role for him.

Kylen Granson, TE, IND. He has not yet seen an upswing in snap count, but is getting some regular work, and Mo Alie-Cox is a free agent next year, Jack Doyle the year after. The path to starter seems clear.

I've also got Nico Collins, WR, HOU on my short-list, but he is less likely to be available on waiver wires.

Who have you got?

I’m stashing Khalil Herbert. He looked good when Montgomery was out, plus Montgomery is a free agent after 2022 and not exactly unreplaceable.

K Hunt is on the last year of his contract next year next year and it's possible he gets a big pay day from someone as their rb1 so cle may move him if they can get something and they believe in Johnson behind Chubb.

I just realized this said on waivers but... Good look for the off season.

So far I have Ronald Jones who will be an RFA this offseason. David Njoku will be a UFA. Marlon Mack will also be a UFA. Tyler Johnson might get a top 3 spot in Tampa if AB or Godwin leave. Parham could be the starter in LAC if Cook retires.

Looking for for more ideas though.

Albert Okwuegbunam can play...if Denver gets a real QB he could make a jump but where he ends up next could be the real pay-off...may have to wait on him but he is only 23.

Tyler Huntley if you have the roster space, he looks like he may get a chance at some point.

Jalen Guyton shows flashes...like Palmer he could get a bigger role if Williams leaves and they don't bring in a quality FA or high pick.

Brevin Jordan...only 21 and has had some productive games and could have an upgrade at QB next season.

Probably rostered but Cole Kmet looks like he could take a big jump next year on the post-Nagy Bears.

I'll be looking at stashing any RB in his first couple of years and any young WR and TE that have been active on game days.

I mostly play in deeper leagues. Here are some names that I'm stashing:

Ashton Dulin/WR/IND

Deon Jackson/RB/IND

Mike Boone/RB/DEN

Lil'Jordan Humphrey/WR/NO

Josiah Deguara/TE/GB

Tyree Jackson/TE/PHI

Some names that I've had all year that may be available in shallower leagues:

Chris Evans/RB/CIN

Noah Grey/TE/KC

Jaret Patterson/RB/WAS

As someone who plays in a keeper league but never a dynasty league, how often do these deep dive stashes actually pay off and turn into guys you can legitimately count on as starters?

I can give you two names of guys I nabbed off the waiver wire back in the day in my main dynasty league.

George Kittle and Tyreek Hill. Kittle was free when I picked him up as a speculative add, and I think I paid like $17 for Tyreek after he first flashed. I never would’ve thought either would turn into what they did.

If your a perennial playoff team, sometimes these stashes are just as valuable as rookie picks.  I like to look for UFA or players playing behind UFAs who might have a shot next year.

My example is Hunter Long.  As a Gesicki owner (who’s an UFA) I just picked Long up.  He was drafted as a late 3rd round rookie pick by another team but was dropped during the season because of COVID and bye week needs.  No idea if Miami will pay Gesicki but if they let him walk I’d rather have Hunter Long than Durham Smythe and Adam Shaheen (TE premium league).  And since they spent a 3rd on Long this past year I doubt Miami drafts another TE this year.  Also if by some miracle they manage to land Watson that would clearly be an upgrade at QB.  I’d want to own a piece of that offense.

If I'm playing a waiting game on TE, I'm taking Foster Moreau over Albert O - although I do have both rostered, oddly enough

TE is one position that I don’t think is worthwhile to gobble up roster spots on backup players for future potential.  It almost never pays off.

Agree with josh Palmer.  Other guy could be dee eskridge.  Concussion at preseason sidelined him for most of the year, but drafted 56th overall by Seattle and may have been dropped by a lot of folks early on.

3 names I have been trying to stash

James Washington, Steelers

his contract is up and he has flashed at times. Could be valuable depending on where he lands.

If you hit on one every 3 years or so, you will have a solid team. Right now it's all about churning those players you're probably going to drop come draft time for a lotto pick that might have a starting NFL role next year. In dynasty you don't necessarily have to hit on a player making your starting lineup, all you have to do is hit on a rising asset. Scoop off the waiver wire, sell for anything and you just improved your team for free.

I'll list a darling last year that flopped, Firsker. TEs take the most time to develop and sometimes they pop the year after they were expected.

Eno Benjamin do anything for anyone? Figure Conner walks he earned a paycheck and I doubt the Cards will want to pay him. Edmonds UFA next year, they will likely bring someone in but Eno could be one of the only one's there in the offseason.

I’ve been thinking of Eno, but I think even if Conner and Edmonds depart, the Cards would get a new guy. While he’s been blocked by those two and Drake before him, not sure they’d give him the keys. I do think that they make a push to re-sign Conner but let Edmonds walk if he gets a better offer somewhere else.

Good post...who do you like better Long or Granson?
I like Granson better just because of the hype he got this year but he was picked up earlier in the season and wasn’t available. Long is admittedly a “long” shot and didn’t show anything this year.  Granson at least got on the field and has a potentially nice situation with Allie-Cox as an UFA.  Gransons only hurdle next year is Doyle because he’s signed through 2022.

The unknown with Long is, would he have played more if he didn’t get injured earlier in the year?  He was drafted a round earlier in Granson in the NFL draft if that means anything.

Personally, I stashed Jaret Patterson, Derrick Gore, and Kyle Trask. No reason other than I liked what little I saw from Peterson and Gore.

Which would you rather stash: Nico Collins, or Jermar Jefferson? (You are Swift owner.) Jefferson has not even gotten the looks when everyone is injured, not a good sign. Collins certainly isn't doing much, but bank on talent? RB's so much more important, though, especially if Jermar should somehow become the backup during the offseason.

I keep flipping between Derrick Gore and Keyshawn Vaughn for my last bench spot.  CEH just looks like a JAG to me, and Gore could be a very cheap piece of a great offense if the chips fall right.  Vaughn showed a little something last week with that big run, and with Fournette and Rojo both hitting FA could move up into some playing time...

Right there with you. Gore has produced when given the chance whereas I know really nothing about Vaughn outside of his big run last week. Hopefully he gets a good amount of work against the Jets and can build on some momentum. He is intriguing as you mentioned the Bucs other RBs are up for contract this year. Right now I hold Vaughn but I can see either being a good lotto ticket.

For everyone's benefit, my dynasty stashes are: Jaret Patterson, Larry Rountree, Kylin Hill (because I drafted him and have him on IR), Bryan Edwards, Trey Sermon ("stash" classification debatable). Also holding out hope for Darrynton Evans (on my IR), but he'll likely be a drop by the time the draft comes around, barring a very fortunate offseason for him.

Brady seemed to be annoyed at Vaughn, but there's always the chance that with his draft position he generates a little bit of hype during the off season and you can sell him.  Gore looks replaceable to me, a udfa next year could easily take his spot as third string rb.

My favorite dynasty stash is Tylan Wallace, Ravens WR.
The ravens have quite a few guys I’d like if they weren’t all on the ravens together. Had Wallace on my pre draft sleeper list, but Duvernay and proche looked interesting too and it’s not like Hollywood or Bateman are about to hit FA or anything. Any particular reason you think Wallace breaks away from the pack?

I just stashed Anthony Schwartz, Darius Slayton and Keshawn Vaughan for free, along with Tyler Huntley. Hoping to get something out of one of em. Donald Parham too (but I had him already.)

I’m holding Khalil Herbert in all 3 of my dynasty leagues. All 3 leagues are reasonably shallow leagues (FFPC-style Keep 14 leagues) so there’s a chance he’s my final cut, but he sure showed well when he had his chances this year in Chicago.

Just grabbed Antoine Wesley (AZ WR) off of waivers.  Looks pretty good in a 6'4 206 frame.

Not too familiar with his history, but I think he's a talent who has struggled with injuries.

ETA: a bit of a crush.

Physically, he reminds me of Michael Pittman Jr. Not as smooth, but maybe a little faster.

Good thread topic. Comments:

  • I picked up WR Wesley also, for reasons similar to @Mister CIA. He is 24 and is an ERFA after this season, so he will definitely be back. But WRs Green and Kirk are both UFAs, as are TEs Ertz, Williams, Daniels, and Harris. Those players have combined for 281 targets this season to date.
  • Surprised at many of the names mentioned in this thread being available. Just about every player named in this thread other than many in this post by @zaner75 is already rostered in my leagues.
  • Someone mentioned RB Rountree for the Chargers. As a Chargers fan, IMO he is terrible and a wasted roster spot. He played 65 snaps in the first 4 games, but only 42 snaps since. He is averaging 2.4 ypc. He has had one or more rushing attempts in 8 games, and he only averaged more than 2.8 ypc once, and even then averaged 3.4 ypc. Two cents.

Thoughts on Dyami Brown, WFT wide receiver? I am in a Dynasty league and he is available. 3rd round pick by WFT, not much else behind Scary Terry.

I was impressed enough in his highlight's reel to draft him in 3 leagues, although I can't remember specifically what stood out.

He is rostered in all my other leagues, so people held on to him throughout the entire fantasy season...so certainly worth stashing if you got the space.

Disappointing rookie year but he was well thought of by many people going into the draft...definitely worth a roster spot with the hope this was his redshirt year.

I like D'Ernest Johnson and grabbed him after someone dropped him this season. I know he's been spotty his first two years in the league, but even being RB3, he's had some RB1 weeks either because of injury or COVID. I think if Cleveland doesn't see this and let Hunt walk, they'll let Johnson walk and he's shown he can deliver when given the opportunity.

I think it'd be wise to consider if they are undervalued resources on teams where we expect Deshaun Watson to go to and participate (if you think he will) next year. If he goes to Denver, all Denver WRs immediately shoot up in value and many can likely be had a pennies on the dollar from frustrated owners. Probably worth the gamble.

In TE premium, I've picked up Njoku and Howard off of waivers this season

Njoku's only 25 years old, so he should be hitting the prime years for a TE, Howard a couple years older.

Both are UFA's after finishing their 5th year options. Here's to hoping they get on teams that will better utilize them after both having top 10 finishes in the past

I'm still high on the Cardinal's Antoine Wesley, who is sitting at #3 on the AZ WR depth chart (I'll freely accept corrections as I'm in peak off-season shape).  Unless they draft a WR in the first three rounds, I don't expect anyone else to come in and grab that role ... sure, maybe they sign a guy like Julio Jones (or similar). Anyway, plenty to love here.  Cherry picking his last five games - 15 catches on 25 targets, 129 yards, and 3 TDs.  YPC is low, but it can be partially explained by the three TDs. I felt the same vibe last year about Marquez Callaway (win some, lose some).  Still in love with the college highlights.

Any other deep stashes worth adding or refreshing?
