Eagles Draft Trades (1 Viewer)

The Eagles traded two solid contributors, one who is known for his versitality at any position along the Offensive Line, to move up two separate times in the fourth round.

Hicks started a bunch of games last year, and even if he proved to not be starter quality, the guy is worth more than a couple spots in the fourth round. Add to the fact that now the Eagles o-line is extremely young (except for the two big name tackles), and I can't say it made any sense to trade him. I understand Thomas as he was disgruntled, but I am really sad to see Hicks go. I liked the Eagles draft, I liked the move for Bloom and I like Justice in the 2nd. A bit iffy about whether DT was our biggest need in the 1st round. Its been a couple years since a solid Eagles draft, yet we keep giving away veterans for draft position. I'm starting to question the front office's decision makers...

I know their draft got fairly high grades from commentators, but this is a team that seems allergic to veteran players. I understand building through the draft is important, but we havnt had a big contributer from any of our two previous draft classes yet we keep giving up all of our veteran depth. I'm a little worried about our guard position next year. WR is still a problem, honestly, 5 third receiver quality WRs doesn't equal 1 star...still no power back... I suppose we could line up 5 skinny fast WRs and hope to outrun somebody on the field but... I gotta say this is the first year in a while I'm entering with big doubts about my team.

If things go well they can still do great, but a lot will depend on the defense, which still is weak at LB, and McNabb is really going to have to carry the offense.

While I appreciate Hicks' flexibility at guard and tackle, there's no guarantee he would make the roster.

Jamaal Jackson and Fraley are fighting for the center spot. You have Herremans, Andrews, and Jean-Gilles at guard. Then at tackle there's Thomas, Runyan, and Justice.

That's 8 OL and 4 of them were taken in the last 2 drafts.

Personally, I'm just glad they used their picks to trade up to get the people they thought could help, instead of picking up late round picks next year, which was their standard M.O.

Im pretty sure they will move Andrews to his natural Tackle position.

They moved up to get the guys they wanted and they, in the process, got rid of two guys who were going to probably get cut anyway.

The Eagles have had a very bad seven or eight months, but there's no denying that they had a great weekend.

I think this draft was better than 2003 and 2004 put together. Simply because of all the needs they were able to address with solid prospects and no real reaches considering each spot they picked at.

I would have liked them to take a developmental QB like DJ Shockley who could have been flexed at WR. I would not have been angry if they selected Marcus with their last selection. Though the FO prolly only wants YES players now

IMO the Eagles and Jets both did excellent jobs drafting yesterday. Lucking into Bunkley had my buddies elated when we watched the draft, and Justice and Gilles dropping to the second and fourth was outright theft. Avant was a great pickup as well.

The O & D-line both went from a question mark to a strength. They could still use a Vet WR, OLB and a bruiser at RB to spell Westbrook, but they instantly made themselves better in a mere two days.

Kudos to the Eagles, I wish my Bears had personnel guys with half the sense you guys do....

As much as I liked Artis Hicks because he was versatile and came out of nowhere to be a contributor, he would've had difficulty making the roster this year. Better to use him now while there's value attached than to waive him midway through camp and recoup nothing. As to Thomas, when he's healthy he's an effective run stopper but his age and conditioning were red flags. But more importantly, he has been clamoring for a new deal (which the Eagles had no intention of giving him) and wanted out as a result. The Eagles DT rotation of Walker, Patterson, Bunkley, Jasper and Rayburn/Grasmanis (whichever wins out) should be quite effective if Bunkley lives up to his billing.

I'm curious what you guys think will be hte OL lineup next year. We seem to have an abundance of quality tackles (Justice, Runyan, Andrews, Thomas) and RTs at that. I can't see Runyan losing his spot. Will we move one of the RTs to LT? Will Gilles start at LG, Andrews stay at RG? I think Jackson will probably beat out Fraley at center.

I think you guys are looking at Tra and Runyan at tackle, Giles and Andrews at Guard and Jackson or Fraley at C.

 With the possibility that Tra Thomas' back issues could be bad enough that he's displaced or waived. In which case the Eagles will have to decide whether Justice, Andrews (a natural RT) or Herremans plays LT. I'm sure Runyan could play LT in a pinch (with Andrews at RT), but that wouldn't be optimal.

I swear I read months ago that they were moving Andrews to T

Eagles had one of the top 2-3 draft classes imo. Bunkley, Justice, Jean-Giles, etc. Wow.

The only criticism is that they once again failed to add any real playmakers. Mcnabb and Westbrook got injured soon after TO was suspended, so we never really got to see how the team would perform without him. Im still not convinced their offense can move the ball consistently. With the current talent, the load will be on Westbrooks shoulders and he has not been able to stay healthy. In fact he looked to me like he was even begining to wear down before the injury.

So I applaud the Eagles draft for picking some amazing talent. But they still have some work to do on the offensive side of the ball.

That was the talk before Runyan was re-signed. Still could happen, if Thomas' back isn't up to snuff, but I'd imagine they'd put Justice in his place rather than Andrews.

I can tell you as a huge Cowboy fan that I am very envious of the Eagle's draft. You guys took a lot of players that many Cowboy fans wanted. The Cowboy boards were screaming about Justice and Gilles going to Philly. And Bunkley was the best 1 gap tackle in the draft. He and Patterson will be beasts for years to come.

There will be some hellacious trench fights between Dallas and Philly over the next several years. Dallas has put togeather one hell of a front 7. The Eagles have just stocked both lines. Its going to be a lot of fun to watch these fights.....

 As an Eagles fan, I was jealous of the Cowboys draft last year; so we owed you one.

As a Cowboy fan this was awful. And I think most of you are vastly underrating Justice, just as he was underrated on draft day. Reid said they checked out the character problems closely. There are none. I concur. He's solid. More than that he has better upside than D'Brick. He can play LT and be dominant. It may take a year, but the potential is All-Pro. Reid also said they were taking Justice in the first, then Bunkley fell. What a haul. The guy they wanted and the guy they never expected to be there. Just terrible. ;)

Games are won and lost in the trenches. You can have the best playmakers in the league, but if you can't protect your QB or get the the opposing one, you will not win. I LOVE what the Birds did with this draft. They will continue to be a force for years to come due to the strength of their lines.

I think we had one of the best drafts in recent memory (or possibly longer).

I still would have liked to see Jeff King or Cedric Humes on Day 2, but I'll take it for the most part. Rounds 1-4 made this draft, IMHO.

I'm curious - who do you see that DIDN'T get drafted that would be a good invite to camp?

I like Hank Baskett (WR - New Mexico).

Bump for the news on Baskett going to Philly.

Agreed. I looked forward to Cowboy / Eagles games like Christmas day. I am an Eagles fan, but am glad Dallas has rose and bettered their team so as football fans we can witness those games once again. Good luck!
