Eagles RB Westbrook to practice

Running back Brian Westbrook is among three injured players that will return to the practice field Monday, head coach Andy Reid said. Defensive end Jerome McDougle and defensive tackle Darwin Walker are the others.

Though they may not take part in the "live" periods, the news is encouraging with the season opener in Houston less than two weeks away.

Westbrook has been sidelined with a foot sprain since the Hall of Fame game, while McDougle and Walker have both missed time because of rib injuries.

Wow, I didn't even know Westbrook was injured when I spent my 2nd round pick on him over the weekend. :bag:

Westbrook is basically one of those guys like Edge and LT who don't play much if at all in the preseason. Obviously the foot sprain had a lot to do with that this year, but Reid is just being cautios w/ his #1RB and won't risk him in meaningless games. I took Westbrook in the 3rd round this year and think he'll be a good value actually.

I like Westbrook alot and have targeted him for all of my PPR leagues. But isn't anyone concerned he has NEVER played all 16 games? So between history not being on his side, and he's already hobbled (albeit slightly), isn't the 2nd round too high?

not when you consider his ppg and what you'll get with an average RB filling in for 2-3 games.

I am convinced that this will his biggest year to date... According to reports I have heard over the off-season he really took his training to a new level to try and be able to stay on the field... obviously he has already had a slight injury so this comment seems a little silly, but something tells me his injury was not very serious and was a way for Reid to keep him off the field... He looked outstanding in the first pre-season game and even got a goalline carry and took it in...

If that continues to happen he could probably miss a few games and still finish in the top ten and have a decent shot at top 5  He has never been the goalline back and has still put up huge numbers, and there is really noone on the roster currently who is a steady goalline back, so there is a pretty good chance Westbrook will stay in that role...

I have targetted him in all my drafts as I feel he represents great value in the second round.

The way Buckhalter has been playing, I doubt Westbrook gets the goal line carries. But I do agree that this could be his best year yet.

Westbrook will run 10 screens from 20+ in for TDs this season, he doesnt need to get GL carries to rack up points ...Ok, maybe i exagerated a little, but you get the point :bag:

I always believed they made up the foot injury to keep him out of meaningless preseason games. Doesn't LT also have some "injury" and isn't playing at all this preseason?

I can tell you that I am seriously concerned about seroids; he has gotten that jacked.
Is that rumor going around????
Take it easy there...I am a die hard Eagle fan and have heard nothing in the realm of steroids. Plus I have seen B-West and he looks a bit bigger, but not much at all.

Eagles HC Reid says RB Westbrook is between 80 and 85 percent right now

Brian Westbrook worked out for Reid on Sunday and the coach estimated Westbrook at being "between 80 and 85 percent right now."

"We're going to gradually bring him back in. That's why I'm saying it that way," Reid said. "It's a matter of him getting back in there with it being fast. It will be good to get him back in there.

"I think by the Texans [game on Sept. 10], he should be 100 percent."

Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, for one, is glad to see Westbrook back on the field.

"This guy can hurt you in so many ways," said the Eagles middle linebacker. "Just his presence on the field completely changes a game."

Speaking of games, Reid said it's unlikely Westbrook would play in the preseason finale against the Jets.

It's just my random thoughts - I was just surprised to see how much larger he has gotten the past 2 years. I thought last year was the ceiling, but seeing him in camp this year, he was even bigger. Just my take on it, relax everybody...

I felt the same way... What more did Reid need to see after that first drive in the hall of fame game... Westbrook was killing the raiders on the ground and although it is the raiders there run def has looked a hell of a lot better against the 49ers and Lions... Maybe it is that the Eagles may be a force on the ground this year or maybe it was just the raiders, and more likely it was probably a little of both... but why would he play westbrook anymore this pre-season... He was ready to roll after the first drive!!

I read somewhere that Westbrook contacted Tiki Barber in the offseason to check out his workout routine (Tiki is a BEAST in his offseason workouts). This seemed kind of odd to me, being that the Giants are in the same division, but that's what I heard. And Westbrook has always been pretty stacked. I don't think he's on roids.

Latest on Westbrook:

Phily -- Westbrook

RB Brian Westbrook didn't do that much in practice, but just seeing him actually on the field was noteworthy; Westbrook hadn't worn an Eagles uniform since he left after one series in the Hall of Fame game. Yesterday, when Westbrook spoke with reporters for the first time since being injured, it was clear that his absence has been more than precautionary. Westbrook said he expects to be ready for the Sept. 10 season opener, but added that "I still have a long way to go." Then he changed that to "I still have a little way to go." Regardless, he isn't fully healed. HC Andy Reid guessed he might be "80 or 85 percent" back to normal.
