Early draft...ignore lesser positions (1 Viewer)

My league's draft is held August 12. Our league is 14 teams, 19 rounds, and during the season we start various offensive players, as well as 1 kicker, 1 LB, 1 DB, and 1 DL. There is no rule that says you must draft for all positions. There are no roster rules/limitations until the first game (aside from total slots). With the draft so early, I started thinking about not drafting any IDPs (possibly kicker, too). I would wait until a few days before the season and pick some up then. This would allow me to pick up some "project" WRs/TEs or backup RBs, and see if injuries or anything thrust them into starting roles during the remainder of the preseason.

My question is twofold: Is this a smart strategy, and is it "moral"/bending the rules too much?

I'd probably do it, but your intent would be obvious, and depending on the people in your league, they may choose not to trade with you during this time, etc.

If you do this, I'd still probably grab a descent LB once a handful have been taken.

Even if you don't do this "all out", and think others might take offense, I defintely wouldn't draft a DL.

I like holding off on IDP players and stocking your team with "better" offensive backups...In my 53 man roster leagues I always try to wait until later rounds (high teens) before taking an IDP player...

The latest I have waited is round 17...

You can always pick up a good IDP free agent easier than an offensive free agent...
