Early Fantasy Drafts (1 Viewer)

Due to a couple of factors, we are holding our local league's auction the third weekend in July. This is a month earlier than we generally hold it. It's more of a fun league among friend for trash talk, so it isn't that big of a deal. Does anyone else have experience drafting early vs. drafting late? I imagine that there will end up being some steals, but we're also taking a huge risk with injuries. We're trying to come up with a rule so people don't get screwed if someone gets hurt. Any advice? Being thrown around now is any player that cost over $X, you get their backup or choice of FA pickup until week 3 of training camp, with normal waivers starting after that.

Keep the waiver wire closed until right before the season starts. Line up the guys that lost someone to injury based on the amount they spent on injured players. Give the owners a day or two to sort out their rosters, then change it to FCFS. Not a perfect solution (does someone who's going to be out for 4 weeks count?), but it's something to work with.

Sometimes back ups are already rostered, so you can't really guarantee a back up to an injured player... and an Owner might prefer someone else other than the direct back up of an injured player. So just don't craft your rule to be too narrow. But yeah, I could definitely see allowing a single FA pick up for just the affected Owner hit by an injury, or something like that.
