Eating Out? (1 Viewer)

Ohio bars and restaurants are getting the hammer at 9 pm tonight. Hopefully more states follow suit.

Does that mean they will all have to close at 9 pm each night going forward or that they will all need to close for good?

All bars and restaurants in Ohio will be indefinitely closed starting at 9pm tonight, Gov. DeWines just annnounced, adding that carry-out and delivery can continue. "Delay means more people will die," DeWine said.

We have gotten take out and went out last night.  Difficult to find parking.  Seemed like a normal Friday night in Sonoma County.
"bars, nightclubs, wineries, and brew pubs" in california just announced

How would this work with a bowling alley?

They serve drinks and food.  Would they have to close and not allow people to come bowl?

Eating in isnt so easy either.  My main local grocery store has no bread, chicken, or ground beef.  I imagine the steak and pork is soon go follow.

Where are you getting that? Newsom has said it, not suggested they close down
The governor stopped short of issuing an edict, but said he expects businesses and citizens to follow his directions. “I am confident these guidelines will be well received and will be appropriately enforced. If it is not being (done), we will do what we need to do.”

“I have all the expectations in the world the guidelines will be followed on this.”

los ángeles mayor garcetti, closed down bars, restaurants, gyms, etc, until 3/31.  newsome has not done that.  yet

I expect other states to follow suit. Was getting ready to start limiting hours and capacity (for supply chain issues as well). But I have a feeling the State of Virginia will follow Ohio's lead in the coming days.

Honestly, it would be a relief. I'm trying to do the best thing for everyone involved. Really no clue what that is. I've come to accept and prepare that we're going to have to shut it down at some point. Just trying to figure out when.

Closing the restaurant for the day to consider the options going forward (almost certain Virginia will make some decisions for me by end of day). I've known this was coming, and it seems like it might be time.

This will not be a popular decision in this community, and I have no idea what's right. But I'd rather be extra cautious when it comes the health of our customers, staff, and their families.

'Open, but cannot dine in' would be my guess.
I think Ohio has landed on a good, common-sense approach here that may be sustainable for a month or more. You’re greatly limiting contact with a crowd, but allowing businesses to survive and people to get what they want. Bars who get by on alcohol will be hurt badly but that was inevitable.

What happens to all the waiters, bartenders, busboys, etc?  Just laid off without pay?

I'm sure a lot of these restaurants don't have the funds to pay everyone while not working.

Well, they probably stay healthy which is a start.  I agree they will be negatively impacted but you’re also getting them out of a situation where they would be/feel obligated to work in an extremely high risk situation.  Hopefully they find a way to soften the financial blow.

Pretty soon places can open up and advertise as "corona friendly" where all staff has either had it or has it.  People who have or had it can go.
