Eche vs Darius Walker? (1 Viewer)

It is clear that Green is out this week and is likely done for good. Dayne will start now and possibly for the rest of the season. The question is which of the two kids has the most upside? Opinions?

Here's Kubiac on the RB situation:

Green down: Running back Ahman Green will miss his fifth game of the season Sunday when the Texans travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns. Green will continue to be listed as day-to-day and not move to the injured reserve.

“I would say we are a position right now with our 53-man roster where we can have some patience,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “If we have a problem at a position or two, it might force our hand a little bit. But right now, we will have patience with him.”

Kubiak must now decide if he will suit up three backs for the game. Ron Dayne, who rushed for 89 yards against the Saints, will get his second start in a row. Kubiak’s decision comes down to dressing both Adimchinobi Echemandu and Darius Walker, a rookie who moved up from the practice squad earlier this week, or suiting up five wide receivers.

“It’ll be between Darius or Joe (Echemandu) if we suit two halfbacks,” Kubiak said. “I just wanted to put him (Walker) in position to where he can be ready to help this football team, so he’s active. And I’m kind of evaluating how he’s practicing, him and Joe together.”

Kubiak has been impressed with Walker’s play this week, especially how the rookie has adjusted to going against a 3-4 defense.

“It’s an interesting week to try to get him ready, because they’re a 3-4 team,” Kubiak said. “A lot of your rules change for a back, so it’s a complicated week for him. But I think he’s done pretty good.”

The coach will probably go with two backs and five wideouts because his receivers can also contribute on special teams.

“The problem is between those two guys is if they were special teams players, I’d suit them all the time,” Kubiak said. “But Darius and Joe, they’re really not playing special teams. So it makes it hard.”

If you are holding these guys at the end of the season, you should trade them as soon as you can. I expect the whole rb core of Houston to be revamped w/ 2 UFAs and 1 draft pick and whoever is there now to be gone.

T. Bell/L. Jordan/J. Jones/Droughns/J. Fargas/C. Brown/ longshot M. Turner(although I dont see us paying that price for him) pick 2 of those guys.

rookies Charles/Hart or one of the rb that might fall to the 3rd or 4th round.

They might keep Dayne around but I doubt it.

I'd rather have Walker on my squad than Echemandu. Not sure that either will pay off, but worth a gamble if you have a slot.

I don't see Bell starting anywhere again; he has had two chances and blew them both. In fact, i would rather have Dayne than Bell if I were Kubiac. Jordan? He would fit well in the offense, but he is not such a stud that he would be handed the job. I think the other guys on roster would be allowed to compete; after all, he LOST his job in Oakland! How good can he be?

Droughns? I don't see him starting again at this point in his career.

Chris Brown: Cannot stay healthy.

J. Jones? He would be good but I think there will be lots of competition for him. It would be desirable for Jones because he wouldn't have to move far.

Fargas? I would be surprised if Oakland does not resign him.

Turner? Agree--he will be expensive and may end up being resigned by SD.

Obviously there will be new competition brought in, but if one of these youngs guy plays well down the stretch they will have a chance to compete for the starting job. Kubiac is like Shanny; he gives everyone a chance to win carries.

Not to steer this conversation in another direction and im sure theres another Turner thread, but is there anyway he really stays in SD(barring brutal injury to LT)???

I do not believe that Chris Taylor is totally forgotten by the Texans either ...

I suspect his value is more than Echemandu or Walker ...

I didn't include him because of the injury. ACL's are hard for the top guys to come back and keep their job. Taylor has to first come back then win the starting job coming off the acl that probably wont be 100% healed. I love the kid and all but we all know the NFL doesn't wait around for anybody.

It's not like Taylor did THAT much. Go back and look--he had like one or two good games. And he is coming off of a serious injury. He may be in the competition but it isn't his to lose. Here are my thoughts on Eche and Walker:Eche OLDER; he has already been in the league three years and has failed with three other teams. That doesn't bode well.Walker: Rookie who didn't get picked.Walker had a great career at ND, where he faced good competition. He was durable, with more and more carries all three years and never a serious injury. He was productive and improved his YPC every year. He became a good receiver out of the backfield catching 50 his last year.I am starting to think that Walker has more upside than Eche. Eche is in dog house from fumble. He got hurt right away. Those things don't help a young back get ahead. On the other hand, the reason Walker didn't get drafted is because allegedly he doesn't nothing great. He isn't the fastest or strongest or quickest or best at breaking tackles. He is ok at everything. But I wonder if this is fair--it seems he is a very good back at catching out of the backfield, something the starting RB in Houston must be able to do. He won't break any 50 plus yarders, but neither will Dayne and Kubiac seems to love the guy. I am leaning toward thinking that if you are taking a long term chance on one of these two guys that Walker has the more upside.Anyone from CAL or ND want to weight in?
