Edge owner's happy? (1 Viewer)

Just remember SF is one of the worse run defenses in the league and Edge still avg. 2.8 a carry. It's gonna be a long year for Edge owners. However kudos to Edge on a nice start of the season.

man, in one league I had no choice.. he fell to #8. Honestly? I wished I didn't have him 5 minutes after i drafted him.

I was just about to post this. I'm not hearing much from Edge owners. As one....I'm a lil disappointed. He had a bunch of carries for the poor yardage he ended-up with and they need to give him a few more looks in the passing game.

WOW...that was my thought exactly after he fell to me at #8! LJ and R. Brown were keepers, so essentially he was the 10th pick. I grabbed him, VERY reluctantly.

lol are Shaun Alexander owners happy? Larry Johnson owners? If anyone expected 1500 and 15, he probably wouldnt be falling out of the top 5 in drafts. James came through this week.

Remembering for a second that the 49ers probably have a bad, if not the worst, defensive front sevens in football, I think Edge owners should be happy they walked out of this week with that production but realize that he and the O-line have to play much better to live up to his first round status.

Edge fans should be happy that a) Denny continued to run the ball even though it wasn't reaping a ton of reward per carry, b) Edge got looks at the goal line, and c) defenses can't/won't put 8 in the box with that receiving corps. They should worry about a) Edge looked tentative at times (like he doesn't trust the line), b) the line looked overmatched against a subpar defensive front and c) that passing game is going to score a lot of points even in the red zone.

i didn't want him at 9.....but had no choice......i am thinking of staring a. green instead of edge this week... :bag:

Hey einstein,Your statement confuses me. Why did you have no choice? Couldn't you have passed on him at 9 and let the next guy grab him at 10?

Keep in mind, this is Edge's first real playing time of the year. I expect him to start really getting going after the rust shakes off a bit.

S. Alexander and L. Johnson owners are thinking they just had a bad game, it happens. They've seen their guys last year and expect they same since they are in the same situation. Edge owners were wondering how he would do with a new team that has had a horrible past in the running game. The answer was so-so against probably the worst run defense in the league. If you can't avg. 3 yards against SF you might be in trouble. That's all I'm saying. There is a very big difference between a new Arizona rb and LJ or Shaun. I see your arguement but I don't agree with it. Then again, Edge could be great the rest of the season and SF could turn out to be the #1 run defense all year. I don't see it happening but it could. That's what so great about the NFL and we are only at week 1.

Did SF's defense get worse during the offseason? Last year they ranked 18th in rushing yards and 11th in YPR. Just curious as to why people think they are so bad against the run.

I am not worried at all. I was expecting more out of him, but am not worried at all. In fact, I'm thinking of trying to trade for him in the leagues where I don't own him.

Tim, you gotta stop with the Edge hate. You predicted 5 TD's for the guy. Looks like he's got 4 more to go and 15 games to do it. Did you also think that San Fran's O was showing some signs of brilliance, albeit against the Cardinals D, but many picked the Cards D as a sleeper. The Cards kept the points piling up to stay ahead of the 9ers yesterday. There are going to be games where Warner and Co will be way ahead in games and Edge will get all kinds of garbage yards and TD's late in games. Edge in a PRR league is money. Ironically he didn't get many recepts yesterda but still had a nice day....

As an Edge owner, i'm not all that sad by the game. We all knew Edge would have a low YPC until his O-line starts to gel. The positive part is the amount of touches Edge continues to get, even if his YPC is crap. And Edge's YPC was horrific after the first 8 carries:

(11:39) E.James right end to ARZ 27 for 1 yard

(9:46) E.James up the middle to SF 44 for no gain (D.Smith).

(6:58) E.James left tackle to SF 1 for 4 yards (M.Adams, B.Young).

2-1-SF1 (6:14) E.James up the middle to SF 1 for no gain (J.Ulbrich). Play Challenged by ARZ and Upheld.

3-1-SF1 (5:54) E.James up the middle for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN

(4:13) E.James left tackle to SF 39 for 2 yards (W.Harris)

(1:47) E.James left end to SF 6 for -2 yards (C.Williams)
First 8 carries for 4 yards .5 ypc
(10:25) E.James left tackle to ARZ 25 for 6 yards (M.Adams).

(9:42) E.James right end to ARZ 30 for 5 yards (D.Smith).

(6:17) E.James left end to SF 19 for 6 yards (D.Smith).

PENALTY on ARZ-R.Wells, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SF 12 - No Play.

(2:48) E.James right tackle to SF 9 for 4 yards (M.Oliver).

(2:00) E.James left end to SF 12 for -3 yards (C.Williams).
18 carries for 69 yards 3.83 ypc2 plays called back of 13 and 11 yards.

If you're expecting Edge to be a top 5 back, forget it. But i think he should still be able to put up top 10 RB #'s. Arizona's offense looked explosive and as the season goes on, the O-line can only get better. I know it sucks that it was SF defense and he never hit the 100 yard mark, but i wouldn't panic yet.

If they can't blow out SF at home....who are they going to blow out? 5 td's is still what I think.

As and Edge owner, I am encouraged by his game. The Cards ran the stretch play well several times, which was Edge's bread & butter in Indy. I expect it will only get better as the line gels.

Yes, Edge will get stuffed in the backfield for a loss a few times a game. But he should be able to make up for it. He will have plenty of opportunites for yardage, receptions, & GL carries in that offense. I see no way Edge does not get at least 8-10 TDs. Yards are hard to predict with that line, probably 1100-1200.

Another encouraging sign- He had an 11yd carry down to the 1-inch line that was called back for a hold across the field. He certainly would've gotten at least 2 attempts to punch that in. 87 yards & 2 TDs would've been a huge game...

Came thru fantasy-wise, but I'd be worried... the SF defense of all defenses held him in check, even with Arizona opening up a passing game. The only reason he tacked on 50 yards or so, was because that game ended up a shootout, and the SF d-line was just spent... even then, it wasn't much to march home about. And lest we forget, it was an energized big-deal home game.

When did all that happen... after how many plays had the SF defense been on the field for. Next week is Seattle in Seattle. That will be a better test... It's only been one week, but I'd be worried.

Did SF's defense get worse during the offseason? Last year they ranked 18th in rushing yards and 11th in YPR. Just curious as to why people think they are so bad against the run.
i'm not sure if this is the case, reg, but sometimes low rushing yards given up on average can be an indication that a team is an easy mark against the pass... & i think they were #32 in pass defense by a wide margin...they did lose two of their best defenders in peterson & carter, another one of their best, parrish, has looked slow to come back from his broken leg injury, & young is like 34...they do have a few good young players in lawson & spencer, but they may help more in pass game...as to edge, they have a new OL coach in loney, so it is conceivable they could gel & start doing better by the quarter or midway point...

gratzi, i knew they were bad against the pass, but thought they were pretty decent vs the run. i think teams did run on them alot, but they were pretty decent stopping it. could be combo of losing those players + being young as you alluded to. :)

James played well enough for his 1`st real action. YPC was low but to be expected. Will get all the goal line carries, and 25 touches per game. What will hurt his #`s is if Warner continues the trend of yesterday, TD passes of 2,5 and 7yds. Still believe James will be a top 5-7 back when all is said and done. 1500-1600 total yds and 12 scores.
