Eli Manning must sit this week (1 Viewer)

I'm really not looking for a lot from Eli Manning this week vs the Phily defense. Mannning threw 3 int's in a game last week vs Phily and could be in store for more of the same this week.

I like Manning this year. But, Ijust have a bad feeling this week.

What makes you think this?Carr did quite well playing versus Philly last week, and New York is a better team.

If Manning does not throw for 250+ and 2 scores, it's because Tiki Barber has gone off on Philly again.

in my league (4pt per pass TD and 1 pt per 25 yards passing) Eli still had 19 pts that day

Lito Sheppard out <> upgrade
Philly considers Roderick Hood, Lito's replacement, basically a 3rd starter. I wouldn't upgrade the Giant's passing attack too much just because Lito is out. However, Shockey could give Philly a little trouble over the middle while Plaxico and Moss stretch it deep. It's going to be a close, good game.....can't wait.

I don't see it that way. I don't think Eli gets 325 yards and three TDs, but I expect about 260 yards, 2 TDs and one INT. This game smells like a 24 to 21 Giants victory to me.

208 yds, 1 TD is quite good? Ok?Philly is at home this week. Big disadvantage for the NYG offense. Tiki Barber always seems to kill the Eagles. Eli will probably put up stats like 250 yds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs.What scares me about the game is that NY is already in a must-win situation. Their next 4 games are at Seattle, Washington, at Atlanta, at Dallas. If they lose this game they could very well start the season at 2-4 or 1-5. If they lose this weekend they'll already be 2 games behind the Eagles who next have at San Fransisco, Green Bay, Dallas, at New Orleans. They could be 4 or 5 games back by week 7.

I own Eagles D and will probably sit them for ATL D. I think Eagles D does good if the O jumps up early and forces the Giants to be one sided, but otherwise dunno

The Giants ran up 450 yards in offense the last time they visited
Time of Possesion in that game: NYG: 43:00

PHI: 27:00

The TOP will be closer this time as the Eagles have a much superior offense then the team that lined up at the Linc the last time.

Eagles starters on offense the last game:

QB: Mike McMahon

RB: Lamar Gordon

WR: Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis

TE: Stephen Spach

OL: Jon Runyan, Shaun Andrews, Jamal Jackson, Todd Herremans, Artis Hicks

Eagles projected starters on offense this game:

QB: Donavan McNabb

RB: Brian Westbrook

WR: Reggie Brown, Donte Stallworth

TE: LJ Smith

OL: Jon Runyan, Shaun Andrews, Jamal Jackson, Todd Herremans, William "Tra" Thomas

Plus the defense is better and deeper and should have more opportunities to get to the QB.

Eagles starters on defense the last game:

DE: Jevon Kearse, Trent Cole

DT: Sam Rayburn, Mike Patterson

LB: Jeremiah Trotter, Dhani Jones, Keith Adams

CB: Sheldon Brown, Rod Hood, Michael Lewis, Brian Dawkins

Eagles projected starters on defense this game:

DE: Jevon Kearse, Darren Howard

DT: Broderick Bunkley, Mike Patterson

LB: Jeremiah Trotter, Dhani Jones, Matt McCoy

CB: Sheldon Brown, Rod Hood, Michael Lewis, Brian Dawkins

EDIT: Plus the game went into overtime. Eli Mannings stat line: 312 yds, 1 TD, 3 INTs

I have to choose between Eli and Alex Smith this week. I dont think I trust Smiths week 1 enough to sit Eli. I can't see Eli busting/bombing this week though. He'll have average numbers at minimum IMO.

Are you discounting the fact that the Giants are a better team this time around as well?

I don't think the Giants are that much improved.

Even if they are slightly better, the Giants won't be nearly as improved on offense or defense as the Eagles. And I guarentee that the Giants won't have the ball for 43 minutes or run anywhere close to the 85 plays they had last game.

As a fantasy football player and fan I gotta say you're probably right...But as a Giants fan, I have to say, the Eagles are going down this week. Going down big.

As I said in an earlier post this is a MUST WIN game for the Giants. However, IF the Eagles lose, it probably will be by single digits. As a Giants fan if they don't win this game you might as well pack in the season cause it's gonna be a loooonnnnggg one for them.

The Giants are improved on both sides of the ball. However, you are correct, the Eagles are more improved than the Giants. Then again the Eagles were 6-10 and got swept in the division last year. The Giants were 11-5 and NFC champs. There was MUCH more room for improvement for the Eagles.

Dont tell Seattle that!!! :P

What makes you think this?

Carr did quite well playing versus Philly last week, and New York is a better team.

I agree with you that 208 yards and 1 TD is not stellar in fantasy terms, but it does show that the Philly secondary isn't too hot without Lito Sheppard, IMO. David Carr was sacked 5 times during the game last week, and still threw for 208 yards and 1 TD, despite all the pressure Philly was bringing.Manning has a better offense and a considerably better OL (by about a light-year) over what the Texans have to work with, so I think it is unlikely E. Manning will be sacked 5 times despite the home field advantage at the Linc (which is considerable, Philly fans are knowledgable, very very loud, and often able to disrupt opposing offenses at key moments).

The Eagle's secondary struggled through injuries last season, too, and ended up 21st in passing yards allowed and 26th in passing scores allowed. Link.

Your points about the offense being much better this year than last are spot-on, so I can see that the Philly offense will help the Philly defense simply by possessing the ball for more of the game. However, I still think that the loss of Sheppard makes the secondary more vulnerable, and that Eli Manning should have a pretty decent outing (in line with several of the 260-270, 2 TDs 1 interceptions predicted by others in this thread).

I'm starting Manning in the league that I own him in (a 12-team IDP dynasty league). Of course, my other option is Brett Favre there, so it's a no-brainer... :bag:

The difference this year is Phily is healthy. I think Manning is in for a tough day.

Someone seriously needs to link all the failed prediction threads together and pin that thread. Not really to make fun of the people that made the predictions, but so I know never to listen to them in the future.

heh....and you thought (I did too) this would be a bad week for your QBs...

Well im glad I started him, mind you Brees had a good game topping 350 through the air, so no great loss. All I have to hope now is the rest of my team pulls their weight!

he was until Ried blew the ####### play calling in the 4th, which is typical, its his biggest downfall as a coach, he gets a lead and just ####s the rest up
