:(Very well played.Just to make sure I understand the "Lott Test"...would Ronnie have refused to play for an NFL franchise despite their willingness to make him the 1st overall pick and pay him tens of millions of dollars guaranteed?GordonGekko said:I know that wasn't addressed to me, but I'll comment on this anyway. It doesn't matter what the Giants record was at the end of the season. It doesn't matter what Eli Manning did or did not do as a QB on the field. Does not matter one bit when it comes to Tiki Barber's retirement talk. Barber's announcement put winning second. Most of us have played this game at one level or another. Most in high school, a few lucky enough to do it in college, a few even luckier to maybe reach a bit farther than that. I have never in my life respected another player that I played with that did not put winning first above all else. Everyone has played with teammates who were not physically gifted or had the mental yips that kept them from true greatness on the field. But there is nothing more disgusting than someone who simply does not respect the game. Does not respect it enough to put winning first. At least most of the scrubs out there who don't produce are putting everything they have out on the field. They fail at the game of football but they bleed their all to do it. They never do anything intentionally to hurt their team, including just opening their yaps and saying stupid things. What Barber did, to me, is less about actual wins and losses than simply the principle of respecting the game, your teammates, your opponents and yourself. My test for NFL leadership is simple. WOULD RONNIE LOTT DO IT? Ronnie Lott would have never done what Tiki Barber did, that's all I need to consider Tiki Barber a great NFL player but a deficient teammate and leader who sold his soul cheap so he could whore himself out for some network gig.You honestly don't think Tiki Barber's retirement talk was a BIGGER factor in the Giants disappointing season than Manning's erratic play, do youIs that something Ronnie would have done?

Eli should be happy Tiki was tiki last year. This cat got drafted high on name alone. I don't think he will be anything more then a average QB at best. Granted the situation in NY isn't the greatest but its not like Tiki is the lone person to question Eli.

Exactly. He didn't even want to say anything. He was asked about leadership and Tiki talked about him addressing the team. He was new to it and was awkward because he was new to it.

In Jason's statement, substitute "average (at best) QB" for "jerk" and it is right on the mark.
Selfish reasons? Believe it or not, not every NFL RB wants to retire at such a late age, that he is limping around like an old man by the age of 40.
