Eli Manning..... (1 Viewer)

Eli Manning has always been a unique fantasy player. He has always wavered with those big numbers throughout his career but has had trouble finding that consistency as an NFL and fantasy QB. However, I think it is now safe to say Eli is playing his best football ever and here are the numbers over the last 3 years...

-2011 on pace for 4740 yards with 29 td's to 13 ints, 64% completion percentage

-2010 finished with 4002 yards with 31 td's, 25 ints, 63% completion percentage

-2009 finished with 4021 yards with 27 td's, 17 ints, 62% completion percentage

*Now you are always going to get more ints than the elite QB's with Eli, but he has major control over that offense and has made the transition with a very good young up and coming WRing core. Even while losing Boss, and Steven Smith, he is on pace to have a career year.

His completion percentage is something he used to struggle with in his younger days, but after this year it will be 4 years of 60 plus percent completion percentage. He also is in a very balanced offense and is someone you can rely on to play each and every week.

Eli is also in the prime of his career, and I don't see any reason to expect decline over the next few years. He has officially made me a believer. I used to be someone that said Eli is what he is which is a very inconsistent QB. But if you look at his numbers and his play he has made me a believer.

I'm enough of a believer that Eli will end up in the 6-10 range that I turned down a trade that would have netted Brady. I don't particularly like him from a pure football standpoint, but for fantasy purposes, he's a solid QB1.

One other thing to note... Eli's mark for 13 INTs is very very skewed. He had 3 in the game against Seattle and only one was even remotely close to his fault. One was a garbage time toss up, the other was at fault of Victor Cruz sliding on the grass and not being able to make what would have been a fairly easy catch (and likely the game winning TD). You even take the INT from Cruz away and he is on pace for about 10 or so INTs. Which is top level in that mark. So far he is also 3rd in QB rating this year.

At the start of the year someone was interviewing Eli and asked him if he felt he was a Top 10 QB in this league to which his response was yes... he got a lot of crap for that from the media. So far, he is proving he is not only a Top 10 QB but Top 5. So far this season his play has been on the same level as everyone but Aaron Rodgers. Simply put, nobody is on that level besides Rodgers himself. I can't see not including Eli in the Top 10 Fantasy QBs.

He's 6th in TDs

He's 7th in YPG

He's 15th in INTs (Tied with 6th, 4INts would have him tied for 9th so essentially 10th you could say).

He's 3rd in Passer Rating.

You put all those numbers together and he is having one of the better fantasy seasons out there right now.

It seems like much of what's happening this year has little to do with Eli "playing better". The Giants have always had a very good to elite running game as well as a very good defense. This year the running game has been a lot more suspect (26th in the league) and the defense is obviously down (bottom 12 in yards and pts. allowed). So Eli's having to put in the air more. One the most overlooked aspects of QB fantasy value IMO is pts allowed by defense from year to year.

Top ten QB in fantasy points right now having played the (in pts scored) defenses

30th

15th

18th

20th

21st

He has also played Was- 3rd in pts allowed but he only put up 240/0/1 against them. (edit: he also had a Rush TD in that game).

can we take away the touchdown heave he threw up into doible coverage that cruz somehow came down with and ran in for a td?

It's not fair to go interception by interception for Eli and not for every other quarterback. I'm sure you're right and he has more interceptions that weren't his fault than most but other quarterbacks deal with the same thing.

Eli starts fast every year, and this year is no exception. It's unusual when he doesn't have 11 TDs through 6 games: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/pgl_finder.cgi?request=1&match=single&year_min=2005&year_max=2011&season_start=1&season_end=-1&age_min=0&age_max=99&league_id=&team_id=nyg&opp_id=&game_type=R&game_num_min=0&game_num_max=6&week_num_min=0&week_num_max=99&game_day_of_week=&game_location=&game_result=&is_active=&is_hof=&c1stat=pass_att&c1comp=gt&c1val=25&c2stat=&c2comp=gt&c2val=&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=pass_yds

He's also faced a really, really easy schedule. Buyer beware projecting his numbers through six games into 16 games:

Can we take away similar TDs thrown by other QBs too? Like when Stafford does this to Calvin twice a game?

He's a #1 fantasy QB that once again will drafted QB12-14 next year after a few flavors of the year and be a value once again

Yup. He's so disliked that someone in my (10-team) league cut him after week 2. And nobody picked him up for a week.

Irrelevant. You could say the same about the INT's of any QB.

week 16 vs NYJ #5 vs pass

Looks like his schedule gets tough late in the FF playoffs. However, he's put up his current numbers facing 3 teams in the top half of pass defense and 3 teams in the bottom half. Looking forward, I see current rankings as 5 games vs bottom half teams, and 4 vs top half.

I traded eli earlier this year in a deal that got me Rivers, primarily because of his propensity to turn the ball over and his FF playoff schedule. However, since I traded him, I have lost 3 straight games and after seeing how well he has been playing, I am convinced that I may have been better off keeping him. He has provided excellent value for those who drafted him later.

Eli has actually been remarkably consistent from the first to second half the past three seasons.
Code:

The fact that the Giants are only .500 in the second half during that period has had more to do with what was happening around Eli than his play.

I'm thinking of trading high on Stafford and rolling with Eli as my main QB
Eli's schedule gets tougher after next week. Im in the same boat with Stafford/Eli, and I think Im going to try and move Eli to a guy who has only Hasselbeck but is flat out loaded at RB and WR (FJax, Arian, SJax, Steve Smith, Maclin, Fitz)

Yeah, I'm really torn on who to trade. I guess I'll see who bites on which guy, if anyone.

He's been a QB1 for a long time, IMO. What I'm looking for in a QB1 is a guy that plays every game, throws 25+ TDs and gives me about 250 yards per game. You can't say that about Roethlisberger or Romo or a lot of these other guys that go ahead of him every year.

Roeth is kind of like Eli IMO. Aside from the suspension, he's very underrated on a game by game basis IMO. People hate on Eli but he's carrying the team right now - they can't run and their D is giving up big plays, but Eli is keeping them in games. Eli had several more passes dropped today by Ballard and Nicks - he could have gone over 400.
