Eli somehow scrambling out of at least 2 sure sacks. Tyree making an absolutely remarkable grab in the air and holding on despite the defender being right on the ball.

So given the circumstances how good a play was it in Super Bowl history?

Certainly one of the luckiest plays i've ever seen.

reminded me of that 4th and 26 play favre completed to beat the Eagles that one year.

The catch alone puts it in the top 20. The place in the game makes it at least top 5. Add Eli's escape and it's hard to say there's been one better.

However, I don't think plays can be "ranked" any more than games or teams. For each I think you can say it's one of the best, but it's hard to really say one is truly the best.

If the Pats won, then there would be a firestorm of debate over their place in history as the best dynasty ever, etc. and comparing them to the '60's GB, '70's PITT, '80's SF dynasties (some add the '90's Cowboys but I don't). Bottom line is that all of them are great teams and in the end it's mostly pointless to try to rank them. Just enjoy them all.

Greatest Super Bowl play of all-time, quite possible greatest football play of all-time. Yes, Immaculate Reception and "The Catch" included.

Since the Giants won, it has to be up there above McNair's. In that instance, circumstances afterwards determines it but hey, that's the way it goes. Plus Eli and Tyree's effort was just as amazing as McNair's.

The only element that those other plays had that Tyree's catch lacked was the fact that each resulted in a TD that pushed their team to the lead, while there were still 24 yards to go in this case...

I watched this play all last night for some reason, because its my favorite play as a Giants fan ever, just so eptiomized that team:

this was better, so surreally amazing, I've never had such a wave of emotions as fan, from sack to escape, to almost grab, to possible pick, to tussle to FIRST DOWN.

AMAZING!!!

And in fact both of the other plays happened with less time on the clock... but I like the way you're thinking!

I hear ya. I think what also needs to be factored in though is the Pats' perfect season ending. The whole game was so ridiculously improbable, whereas no one was shocked by the Steelers or Niners winning. So the fact that they made THAT play at THAT time to win THAT game is just so...holy crap. I agree that if the G-Men hadn't scored, that play would just be Endy Chavez in the NLCS two years ago (sorry for posting a baseball reference in the SP). Plus the degree of difficulty on the Eli/Tyree play was higher than the others. I will still call this play the greatest I've ever seen, but I can't possibly argue against anyone who thinks otherwise. Either way, it was unfrigginbelievable!

The Immaculate Reception came on fourth down with 22 seconds left in the game; there's no way Eli to Tyree matches that for drama.

But given that there have been precious few Super Bowls with any drama at all, today's play certainly ranks near the top all-time.

The Immaculate Reception wasn't in the SB.Given the time and situation in the game and the great play on both ends (Eli with the escape and Tyree with the AMAZING catch), I would have to call that the greatest play in SB history.

The Manning "escape" and Tyree catch was a play that will rank right up there with "the ball goes through Buckner's legs" in infamy in Boston sportsfan's minds...I've had the unfortunate "Daily Double" of witnessing both as they happened...a great play..
