Email Help - Setting Up a Common Email Address (1 Viewer)

I would like to set up an email address that can be used to send emails to multiple people.

For example, I have 10 friends. I want to have the email address "friends@example.com" to be an email address any of the 10 friends can use to send an email to all 10 friends.

I'd like to use a gmail or other free email account manager for this. Setting up a group won't work. Haven't got a clue otherwise. FFA, help me out.

Create gmail account with user name "friendsatexampledotcom". Share password with 10 friends. Have anyone log in and send emails to the same address.

Beyond that, I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish. But it's Monday and I've only had one cup of coffee so far.

Basically you want to create a distribution list. So anybody can send an email to "friends@example.com" and it forwards to all 10 people?

If so, maybe create an email address "friends@example.com" and set it up to automatically forward to all 10 individual emails?

You're in the ballpark. Here's what I'm trying to do:

I was in a fraternity in the early 1990s. One of our fraternity brothers recently got sick and now there are a few different email threads detailing the state of his health, trading stories, fundraising for his familry. One email is among a group of older guys in the fraternity, another is a forward of that email and still another is an email exchange among younger guys.

Things pop up every year or so when the ability to send an email address to one group "fraternity@gmail.com" for example, would be very useful, particularly in this current case.

Why don't you just set up an email group in your email that sends an email to all of those people?

You should be able to set up email forwarding from the new address, so that when an email is sent to that address, it's automatically forwarded to the 10 friends' addresses. Its easy if you have your own domain. I know you can forward to only one address with gmail. Some of the other free services may allow more than one.

From GMAIL settings:

Forward to multiple accountsGmail can only auto-forward all of your mail to one email address at a time. You can see what address Gmail is currently forwarding to in the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab of Settings.

To forward emails to multiple accounts, you can use filters to forward specific types of messages to each account. You can create up to 20 filters that forward to other addresses. Learn more about filters.

A possibly better option for a free solution (if none of the friends has a website domain/email that you could use), would be to find a free list-serv service on the net and go with that.

Sounds like what my dad used to do with a bunch of work buddies. They just used "reply all" to email each other.

Yeah, I know what you're saying but I need simpler than simple. Trust me.

The automatic forwarding from one address would be your best bet, but it seems like that would still create a problem when someone replies to that message.

Yeah I think you're right.

Seems I need to have access to a domain and set it up through that.

In 2014 I think most people just use a group text to accomplish this. Yes they can be annoying, but very simple to set up and use.

Is there a free email service that does not require a phone number? I hate giving out my phone number to companies. I have not gotten any spam or solicitation calls in several years, and do not want any.

Not really... If you find one let me know. The best I've found will only allow about 30 days of use before requiring a phone number to "verify" your identity like its using two factor authentication.

Looks like www.protonmail.com is a good one. Does not require a phone number or an email address to acquire a free email account.

I have one but my memory is at some point they ask and may not let you log in later without providing one. But that may have been a few years ago.

I remember at one time I got a free 2-week trial with Mint or US mobile or some other mvna, and used the trial number to sign up for as many free emails as possible before it expired.

I think the trick was to add other "security features" like secret questions and whatnot when signing up, so that I could bypass the "verification" they ask for later when insisting on a phone number.
