Epicly wrong fantasy predictions (1 Viewer)

It's always fun to go back and look at fantasy guides to previous NFL seasons and see just how wrong they were with some of their predictions.

In the case of the Sports Illustrated 2011 fantasy preview, epicly wrong.

Here are some gems that made me smile (and there were plenty more!):

'Manning had surgery on his neck... (but) it's OK to draft him high'

'Cam Newton is not likely to make a fantasy impact'

'Steve Smith can still be a playmaker, but not with these QBs'

'Reggie Bush is not an every-down back. His role will be limited'

'McFadden always seems to have a bad something... (but) it's OK to roll with Run DMC'

'Chad Ochocinco still has plenty of good football left'

Ochocino was ranked WR #19, above Wes Welker (#21). Steve Smith (#25) was ranked behind Mike Thomas (#20). AJ Green was ranked WR #45, behind Braylon Edwards (#40). Antonio Brown was ranked WR #67, behind Josh Morgan (#61).

Ranked Ray Rice and MJD RBs #11 and #13. DeMarco Murray and Roy Helu at #73 and #74 were ranked behind Brian Leonard (#65) and Dion Lewis (#71).

'Tony Romo will throw for 40 TDs - at least'

'Mike Williams can be one of the elite receivers in the league'

'Kevin Kolb will fit in fast in Arizona'

'Jared Allen (listed as a 'bust') will draw even more attention from opposing offenses'

Thomas Jones listed as an 'unsung RB you want to take'

'Don't bother looking at the likes of Cam Newton... Andy Dalton...'

'Jacquizz Rodgers... dark horse for Offensive Rookie of the Year'

'Roy Williams is going to get the ball a lot'

'Braylon Edwards is the sort of big, ball-hawking target Alex Smith needs'

'Josh Freeman will be among the top five fantasy quarterbacks'

'Randy Moss will come out of retirement and catch 20 TD passes'

Obviously anyone's predictions can seemd scatter brained after the fact, but for ha-has . . .

'Manning had surgery on his neck... (but) it's OK to draft him high'

Given that I drafted Manning, clearly I thought his injuries were not as severe as they were.

'Cam Newton is not likely to make a fantasy impact'

I said the same thing. I had him with middle of the road QB2 upside.

'Steve Smith can still be a playmaker, but not with these QBs'

I had him as a low end fantasy WR3 and more likely a WR4.

'Reggie Bush is not an every-down back. His role will be limited'

I pimped him as a fantasy RB1 from the get go that could be had for cheap, so I will take credit for being right on this one.

'McFadden always seems to have a bad something... (but) it's OK to roll with Run DMC'

I think I had DMC as mid level RB2 with upside when he played but an injury risk overall.

'Chad Ochocinco still has plenty of good football left'

I was leading the charge of fool's gold from the get go. And he was even worse than I thought he would be.

Ochocino was ranked WR #19, above Wes Welker (#21). Steve Smith (#25) was ranked behind Mike Thomas (#20). AJ Green was ranked WR #45, behind Braylon Edwards (#40). Antonio Brown was ranked WR #67, behind Josh Morgan (#61).

I had Welker in the Top 10, Green somewhere similar to the 45 range, and Brown was not even really on my radar. I never bought into Edwards or Morgan doing much of anything.

Ranked Ray Rice and MJD RBs #11 and #13. DeMarco Murray and Roy Helu at #73 and #74 were ranked behind Brian Leonard (#65) and Dion Lewis (#71).

I had Rice #1 overall and MJD in the Top 10. Any non-starter ranking is totally dependent on who gets hurt, so U don't begrudge anyone that missed on injury replacements.

'Tony Romo will throw for 40 TDs - at least'

I think I had Romo at 30+. Predicting any QB for 40 is a bad bet.

'Mike Williams can be one of the elite receivers in the league'

Didn't expect a repeat performance but his drop off was worse than I expected.

'Kevin Kolb will fit in fast in Arizona'

Saw this one coming.

Thomas Jones listed as an 'unsung RB RB you want to take'

Jones was older than Methuselah. He was worth taking a late round stab at but I don't remember anyone really thinking he would be a fantasy mainstay.

'Don't bother looking at the likes of Cam Newton... Andy Dalton...'

Rookie QBs rarely have much fantasy impact. Not a stretch to suggest avoiding them.

'Jacquizz Rodgers... dark horse for Offensive Rookie of the Year'

Coulda happened if Turner got hurt.

'Roy Williams is going to get the ball a lot'

This one was just crazy talk.

'Braylon Edwards is the sort of big, ball-hawking target Alex Smith needs'

I agree to the last part . . . just didn't agree that Edwards would be that guy.

'Josh Freeman will be among the top five fantasy quarterbacks'

TB had a cupcake schedule in 2010 and a much tougher one in 2011. This one should have been easy for people to see coming.

'Randy Moss will come out of retirement and catch 20 TD passes'

I hope they saved some for the rest of us.
