Equal amount of teams in each league (1 Viewer)

Fight The Power
Why should the NL have 16 teams while the AL only have 14. I say move one team to even it out. So which team would it be?

Keep it simple and move Houston. That way all divisions have 5 teams. Not great to have the Rangers and the Astros in the same division but it could make for one hell of a rivalry.

So why doesn't MLB make this happen? Or should I just go have another beer and forget about it?

Scheduling. You need an even number of teams in each league, or else there's an odd team out each night.

Exactly. They don't want to do 15 and 15. So, they'd have to expand or contract by 2.
Or they'd have to have interleague matchups all season
I would prefer this to the "all at once" inter-league schedule. A viable trade-off to having a 6 team and a 4 team division.I'd move Houston to the NL West and Arizona to the AL West. This would avoid putting the Rangers and Astros in the same division and work geographically.

Why not 30 divisions of one team each. That way all fans can root for a title contender.

Pure genius.

Because the AL sucks?

They should still expand by two teams.
They need a city with a stadium and an ownership group that's willing to overpay for the expansion rights.
Vegas.Brooklyn.
It's easy to throw names out but:No stadiums in either locationTerritorial issues in the case of BrooklynThe usual gambling objections in the case of LVNo obvious ownership groups courting existing franchises

Its rare for expansion to go into an existing stadium, atleast longtermOvercame when the Expo/Nationals moved, and would partially address the Yankee problemSports wagering could very well be possible everywhere soon. This makes no sense. Why would people trying to buy things that aren't for sale matter? Afterall, when franchises have been available lately there have been plenty of buyers.

Not holding my breath. There hasn't been any serious talk about expansion for almost a decade.

It wont happen under Selig, but he's only around for one more year, then who knows.

You can't blame Bud for everything. In the past decade, there have only been two expansion clubs in the big four North American sports. There's very little interest in public stadium financing and no incentive for current owners to split the pie into more pieces and devalue their own franchises.

We were talking about this earlier today.

Why not a team in Puerto Rico? Too poor to go to games? MLB team would help their economy, employing a lot of people....

Vegas is always the first place that comes up with expansion.

Could Portland OR support a team?

I like the idea of Brooklyn

OKC or Lincoln or SLC?

Go NFL Style with 4 divisions of 4 teams, 2 WC spots....

No way Lincoln supports a team - we are lucky in Omaha to get 4,000 people to a AAA game and we just won a PCL championship. Even a major league team would not draw 20,000 consistently. Lincoln is smaller than Omaha - a 45 minute drive from Omaha - and the bulk of the season is played while the college kids are not in Lincoln.Don't get me wrong - I would love for a team to be in Omaha to save me a 3 hour trip to the Royals, a 6 hour trip to the Cardinals or Twins, an 8 hour trip to the Cubs or a 10 trip to the Rockies...but it isn't going to happen.

Good to know. Dont have a good handle on population anywhere in Nebraska so I asked.

The population of the entire state of Nebraska is about the same as Metropolitan Milwaukee

Put it this way - when the Huskers have a home football game, Memorial Stadium becomes the 3rd or 4th largest population center in the entire state. Omaha metro area runs somewhere between 450 to 550 K people depending on how far you extend it. The entire state is probably less than a million. Omaha is a hidden gem - but not a lot of people to support major sports programs.
