Huge Jet fan and big fan of Mangini - however I am very concerned at the big step back this year - I can live with the poor record as I had a feeling it would be a step back record wise this year - but am more concerned with what I have seen on the way to 1-5 - especially from the coaching staff -
1. Gameplanning - last few games it seems that they are content to dink and dunk at 5 yds a pop - had no interest in the running game until yesterday then when it gets going he abandons it when the game is on the line. Loves to play for FGs.
2. Play calling - way to conservative- last year he would go for it on 4th and short to fire up the team - now punts. The whole 8 yds behind the line is 95% run crap; the awful calls down by the GL yesterday. Really bad IMO
3. Stubborness - I understand loyalty but what more needs to be done to make the QB change? The team is dying for a spark and Mangini is unwilling to do it. I dont care if Chad is better in practice - so was Vinny when the move was made to Chad yeaqrs ago - the season is lost and you need to see what the kid can do before the team mails it in. Also how does he stick with the base 3-4? The team does not have the personnel for it and it shows. They went light into FA and got exactly what they paid for - no playmakers.
4. Fundamentals - how can they work on tackling all week and the first series miss a key tackle? How can Chad be a pro QB and not throw an out? How is it every game a WR has a crucial drop.
Now I don't care about his awful media relations but I do think it helps when you have a fired up coach like Parcells say that this is unacceptable and changes will be made, etc. Mangini got a pass last year from the media cause he had a great year - he is about to see the bad side of the media. Plus there are now signs of cracks in the ranks as Baker essentially laughed at the play calling at the GL and said he wasn't suprised.
Not ready to jump of the Mangini wagon yet - but that whole Mangenius thing may have been too much success too soon!
Jets are looking at a 4-12 year - hope Mangini isn't a one year wonder but he is looking an awful lot like a long list of JEt coaches that fizzled - Hermie, Kotite, Carroll, Coslet.....can't take another failed regime - hope he turns it around!
