ESPN.com fantasy scoring issue (1 Viewer)

Our league used IDPs and awards standard IDP points. Conversely, if an offensive player records a defensive stat, that player is also awarded the points, for example, if a QB throws an interception and a WR makes the tackle, the WR gets one point. We have a problem in the way things are being scored by ESPN, and yesterday it became the difference in a game result. Deuce McAllister recovered his own fumble, and in the NFL Gamebook, it has him credited with a Fumble Recovery. That is 2 points in our scoring system and gave Deuce's owner a 103-102 win. My team was not involved in this game, so I am pretty neutral on it. I figure by the end of the season these bogus points will largely even out for most teams, but the owner on the wrong end of this is asking the commish (again, not me) to overturn the two points. What should he do? He is leaning toward letting it be and allowing ESPN to score the games as they like, which is fine by me, because again, I think it will all even out in the long run. The guy who scored 102 is all pissed off today and is really pushing to have it changed. What's the best decision?

Deuce should get the points.

Although your league should also penalize individual players for fumbles, even those which aren't lost to the opponent (like Plaxico's fumble which was recovered by another Giant for a TD)

First I would check the stats of other games to make sure CBS was scoring it consistently. Start with the Giants game, where the fumble was recovered for a TD.

If it is consistent, then as commissioner I would let it stay.

Do you have something in the rules about losing points for a fumble as well?

Offensive players lose points for a LOST fumble. If the fumble is recovered by the opposing team, its (-2) points. If your own team recovers, no points lost. The problem here is that there are alot of free points out there. I have Warner and he is credited with 3 fumble recoveries, all his own, 2 on one play! That's 6 free points. Didnt factor into the outcome of my game, but still. Now I still think that long term every team will benefit from this at some point, but the one owner is stung since he went to bed with a 102-101 lead and woke up to see the 2 points added in.
