ESPN fantasy hosting - free? (1 Viewer)

I've seen the commercials that it's free and I've even set up a league, but I'm just wondering how ESPN can give away for free what Sportline and Yahoo charge $129 a year for. What's the catch? It says there is live scoring for free and I was able to totally customize our points and add .5 PPR.

Is there a catch?

Curious about this too. Our league is migrating from CBS to ESPN this year. Bracing myself for a letdown.Love to hear some firsthand experiences with the ESPN interface/live scoring/transactions etc.

had some problems when they changed the application, but it has been okay the last year or two. unless they've fixed things, you may need to turn off your firewall when you draft using the java option.

in addition to the web traffic jeff mentioned, they also hope you'll subscribe to insider.

I was in a league that used ESPN last year and live scoring was free. You can also set up divisions for free as well (Yahoo charges).

The live scoring did not work properly all the time, but neither does Yahoo.

One dislike of ESPN - I could not figure out how to preview my line up for future weeks. I could only see the current or past weeks.

I've been using Yahoo forever, so it was an adjustment.

A really good free hosting site. not close to MFL, but also.....free.

And those Sapp commercials are hilarious.

"You can't run the draw on 3rd and long, Sonya...."

It is free and there is no catch. It is not as good as MFL or RTSports, but I think it is as good as Yahoo, at a much better price.

It's better than Yahoo, because you can choose divisions. We switched last year to ESPN, and it was good enough.

I remember when CBS Sportsline was free too, so don't get used to it.

I would recommend using the cutdown version of the live drafting online software.

Tell the whole league too.

Had some lag causing mispicks last year.

I really liked it though.

Running two leagues through it next year,

and hopefully moving two more to it in 2009.
