Never heard of Grantland, but a quick read through in this thread has me partially sad to see something unique go, but puzzled as to why the hell is had pop culture stuff.
I liked the non fantasy NFL talk between these guys. I thought they did a good job of discussing different view points. Sometimes, they'd sway the others thinking, sometimes not. But either way they weren't pissing in each others corn flakes.
The facts seem to suggest otherwise. Every show they have has gone that way (to some extent) in the last few years, and I don't see that trend reversing on a dime.

Seems like a strange move. Hardcore sports fans are an aging and overwhelmingly male demographic. A blend of pop culture with sports could act as a gateway for a younger and more female audience and provide the network with alternative programming options that don't require bidding for broadcast rights.
I personally hate the idea but it's an approach that just about every cable network from MTV to History to CNN has employed to some degree.

Maybe us crotchety old men have made an impact. I'll watch sporting events on ESPN, but like most people here when there's a thread about it, I don't watch any of their other programs. (Except 30 for 30). I used to have sportscenter on repeat all morning and now I'm their target advertising demographic.
