OH, you're obviously not a veteran.I didn't think it was that big of a deal
I have plenty of national pride, and I get annoyed when people talk during the anthem live, but on TV it seemed that it wasn't a big deal to me. I'm certainly open to being told I am wrong in this case.OH, you're obviously not a veteran.I didn't think it was that big of a deal
drummer is the chick that played with Lenny Kravitz for several years. Don't know her name, because she's nothing special. And i agree, poor taste to talk through the NAIt was a big mistake to toss to them at that time not just because it was the anthem but also becasue you couldn't hear them. And the singer sounded awful to boot.Anyone know who the drummer and piano player on the Hank Williams intro are?
With the weekly threads regarding ESPN, it may not be a bad idea to pin this link.
Yeah, the producer screwed up it did not have to happen at all. I think TV is the last place this should happen.I have plenty of national pride, and I get annoyed when people talk during the anthem live, but on TV it seemed that it wasn't a big deal to me. They talked...during the National Anthem. :whoosh:can you fill me in...I didnt see what happened.
You're right. How about when Kornheiser said to Jaws "I know you don't like me calling the game, but" and then said something about how awful Baltimore is playing. I guess he doesn't realize that if he had something to add to the broadcast other than being a sideshow nobody would mind him calling the game.Yes it was crap. And moreover, I really, really can't stand Kornhole on MNF. I would choose Madden, Theisman or Dennis Miller ten out of ten times. Hell, I'd even take Rush Limbaugh at this point.
Were they broadcasting at the time or just the guys in the booth goofing around? They talked...during the National Anthem.can you fill me in...I didnt see what happened.![]()

Or even when people pervert the song's lyrics? I think that's more disrespectful than insulated guys in a broadcast booth talkingWhy do you have to be quiet during the whole anthem, but it's OK to start yelling when "...of the free" verse is spoken before the song is over?
Big difference between the crowd cheering with the anthem in celebration of country (and as a result sport) and Stuart Scott making some stupid joke and his game prediction. Secondly, they weren't in any sort of booth whatsoever, they were outside, in the elements with the crowd and trying to talk over the "noise" of the anthem so they could make their game predictions.Or even when people pervert the song's lyrics? I think that's more disrespectful than insulated guys in a broadcast booth talkingWhy do you have to be quiet during the whole anthem, but it's OK to start yelling when "...of the free" verse is spoken before the song is over?
Seriously? What would you want to come of it??That's really bad. I missed the beginning so can't comment on it, but that is so disrespectful I hope something comes of it.
At minimum, ESPN should admit they messed up and apologize to our country.Seriously? What would you want to come of it??That's really bad. I missed the beginning so can't comment on it, but that is so disrespectful I hope something comes of it.
Oh, that's ridiculous. We'll get over it without the apology.I didn't take my hat off one time during the anthem and the country is still goin' strong. At minimum, ESPN should admit they messed up and apologize to our country.Seriously? What would you want to come of it??That's really bad. I missed the beginning so can't comment on it, but that is so disrespectful I hope something comes of it.
For them to stop talking over the Anthem. At least mix out the anthem if you are going to talk while it is being sung.Seriously? What would you want to come of it??That's really bad. I missed the beginning so can't comment on it, but that is so disrespectful I hope something comes of it.
There is a big difference between a fan not taking their hat off (even though that is also disrespectful, just not to the same degree) and talking over it on national TV. As for getting over it, of course we will. It's not about if that set us back or not, it's about demanding respect for what many of us believe to be a moment that deserves a high level respect. You don't have to agree, that is what makes our country great. But you are in the minority here. You really should learn to appreciate what a great country you live in (whether you agree with all the current events or not), and all the sacrifices others have made for you so that you can continue to be such a whiney b**** and get away with it. Perhaps you should go back and read the FBG daily emails for Memorial Day and Fourth of July for a fresh perspective.Oh, that's ridiculous. We'll get over it without the apology.I didn't take my hat off one time during the anthem and the country is still goin' strong. At minimum, ESPN should admit they messed up and apologize to our country.Seriously? Bringing people into the booth for "cameos" is annoying. The jabber in the booth makes the game seem secondary to the worthless booth conversation. That's really bad. I missed the beginning so can't comment on it, but that is so disrespectful I hope something comes of it. Their announcing is also really bad. Just this game, I have already lost count of how many plays they blown or called incorrectly because they aren't even watching the game. 2 of the top of my head: 1. The intentional grounding call, they briefly stop joking with bradshaw to say something about taunting, and they didn't even mention the obvious possiblity of intentional grounding. 2. When McNair fumbled and McGahee almost got a safety -- it is obvious the reason for the delay of game penalty after that is because Baltimore was trying to figure out if they should challenge the play or not -- McNair's arm might have been coming forward. No mention of that or even the possiblity that the play could be reviewed. All they can muster to say is "wow, just wow" -- wow real insightful there! I can't stand these clowns. I often wonder if they are even watching the game.
Sounds like you're just looking for a reason to be angry. Do you really think the guys at ESPN said, "hey let's keep talking during the national anthem and make people upset"?Don't know anything about the FBG emails for the holidays. There is a big difference between a fan not taking their hat off (even though that is also disrespectful, just not to the same degree) and talking over it on national TV. Exactly!!! You put what I was trying to say into much better words there!Bringing people into the booth for "cameos" is annoying. The jabber in the booth makes the game seem secondary to the worthless booth conversation.
Emmitt and Steve Young were making their picks while the national Anthem was being sung very poorly. My point was with the millions that is spent on MNF this was another screw up. If it had been a different song it was still bad because it was distracting. Another reason why ESPN's coverage of MNF SUCKS.Were they broadcasting at the time or just the guys in the booth goofing around? They talked...during the National Anthem.can you fill me in...I didnt see what happened.![]()
Perverting our national anthem is still more disrespectful than a studio set in open air that probably disrupted zero fans' attention to the person singing at the time.Big difference between the crowd cheering with the anthem in celebration of country (and as a result sport) and Stuart Scott making some stupid joke and his game prediction.Or even when people pervert the song's lyrics? geez, you people have never met an announcer that you like.....every week it's the same crap. let me introduce to your remote.....use the MUTE. since when do you need someone to tell you what is happening in the game, get over it people.as far as talking during the national anthem very poor taste on their part....apologizes should be issued.Yes it was crap. And moreover, I really, really can't stand Kornhole on MNF. I would choose Madden, Theisman or Dennis Miller ten out of ten times. Hell, I'd even take Rush Limbaugh at this point.
Huh? I never said anything about it being worse than "perverting" the anthem. I said when the crowd cheers at the end of the anthem, just before it is over is not disrespectful. In fact it is a celebration of country and as a result sport. We're not talking about either here. Sure when people pervert the lyrics it is wrong. Not sure I ever said either one was worse.Perverting our national anthem is still more disrespectful than a studio set in open air that probably disrupted zero fans' attention to the person singing at the time.Big difference between the crowd cheering with the anthem in celebration of country (and as a result sport) and Stuart Scott making some stupid joke and his game prediction.Or even when people pervert the song's lyrics? Be glad my Father wasn't there at the time. And no, I'm not talking about kicking anyone's butt, or any of that sort of bluster. But I can promise you would've gotten an earful on it. And would've deserved it, to be honest. It's a matter of respect. If you don't get it, I can't give it to you.Oh, that's ridiculous. You're right they all drive me crazy and we can turn down the sound. It is just frustrating that they can't report on the game. Who is in, who came out, who got dinged up, call the defensive set, etc. Things we can't always determine from home. On Sunday Madden used the term "The Real Deal" four times in the first 10 minutes and yes the sound went down.geez, you people have never met an announcer that you like.....every week it's the same crap. let me introduce to your remote.....use the MUTE. since when do you need someone to tell you what is happening in the game, get over it people.as far as talking during the national anthem very poor taste on their part....apologizes should be issued.Yes it was crap. All of you complaining about talking over the National Anthem were you standing up with hat in hand covering your heart because you could hear it. I doubt it. The people who the National Anthem was being played for (fans in the stands) heard it and weren't a bit distracted by Steve Young and Emmitt Smith. I would imagine every game the announcers are talking during the National Anthem and we just don't hear it in the background. I seriously don't think the intention was to be disrespectful. I mean really if that is the worst thing that happens in this country were in pretty good shape.
A) That doesn't make what happened right.B) ESPN was fully aware that the NA was going on when they tossed it to the talking heads for their picks on the game.C) Yes, I did stand up when I heard the Anthem as I always do.All of you complaining about talking over the National Anthem were you standing up with hat in hand covering your heart because you could hear it. Your father would have been pissed at me last night then. I ALWAYS take my hat off during the national anthem but not last night -- it was coming down in buckets and I didn't feel like having a wet head so I gambled the country would be alright if I left my hoodie & hat on just this once.PatrickT said:Be glad my Father wasn't there at the time. I never said I was a better American. But I am disgusted when I see other who don't remove their caps during the Anthem at a game, that is for sure.Well I guess you are a better American than most.
