Everyone needs to take a deep breath (1 Viewer)

As a man who is both black and gay I've always been somewhat of a cynic/pessimistic view of our government. While unexpected, I wouldn't say I'm surprised at Trump getting elected. This basically proves what I've been saying my whole life, which is that America is still a very divided nation. This is basically a big "I told you so" from minorities IMO.

What gets me is Trump's popularity amongst blue collar white males. Don't most lower-to-middle class workers pride themselves on getting up and going to work every morning? Even if they don't earn a lot, they take pride in working hard. American culture emphasizes the "bootstrap" mentality. Trump has never worked for anything a day in his life. He was born into privilege. He said his father "loaned" him $1 million and that's how he got started. So why does his message resonate with the working class? Shouldn't they hate him for being a "yuppie" or whatever?

I might deactivate my Facebook account. For the most part I've avoided it, but I did peak in last night and it was pure chaos. I'm not very active anyway. I don't know who is more annoying:

1. The gloating trump supporters

2. The Hillary supporters having a meltdown

3. The "I'm better than everyone because I didn't vote and I don't care" crowd.

People do need to sit back and take a deep breath. We don't know what the hell Trump is going to do, but all the doom and gloom talk isn't helping. My main concern is the supreme court. The voting rights act was already gutted, which made voter suppression easier. It's scary to think what else a conservative court could overturn.

But I've the decision to avoid all news stations like Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc. I'm also going to avoid social media. Basically anything political. I'm going to put all my focus on positive things like getting healthier (I'm down ~40 pounds since August) and gaining acceptance in medical school (applying next year). I lost my mother earlier this year, life is too short to stress out over something like this. Do I feel uneasy about Trump being president? Of course, but I can't let that bother me.

You guys know what a great stress reliever is? Sex. Get off the interwebs and go plow the #### out of your wives.

Here is my honest to god no shtick thoughts on President Trump.

If Trump the President is like Trump the Campaigner, there's a big chance his Presidency will be historically bad.

If Trump the President is like Trump the Victory Speech giver, he could go on to have one of the most successful runs in POTUS history.
Here is my honest to god no shtick thoughts on your post.

I'm inclined to weigh 15 months of campaigning more heavily than a 15 minute victory speech.

I do, of course, hope that I'm wrong.

Why couldn't it have been Bernieeeeeeeee

The comments between people here an on other social media are ridiculous. Things aren't going to be as good as we hope, or as bad as we expect. If we can't work with each other, why do we expect our leaders to be any different. Be the bigger person, set an example, and be awesome to each other.
I felt the same way this morning after Trump won as I would have if Clinton won. I really do not worry too much about things out of my control. Life goes on..

Serious facebook post today..."9/11 or 11/9, I'm not sure which is worse..."  Sad thing is this had a bunch of likes.
The crazy on Facebook and Twitter is off the charts.  The Secret Service is probably paying people visits all over today.

Deep breaths and relaxing are fine for now ... but one point I think we should start thinking about.  When the next Michael Brown or Tamir Rice or Eric Garner comes, we need to be ready for the #### to hit the fan to an extent we've never seen before.

The African-American community felt poorly treated and victimized by "the system" when Barack Obama was president.  How are they going to feel when Mr. law and order Donald Trump- the man openly backed by the KKK, the man who tried to sentence the innocent Central Park Five to the death penalty through the media, the man who has been campaigning with barely hidden dog whistles for a year now- is the president? With Rudy Giuliani, he of "stop and frisk" and "the broken windows theory" of law enforcement, as his attorney general? With an FBI that by many accounts seemed to be putting their finger on the scales for Trump?

I fear it is going to be very, very, very, ugly, and we probably need to get ready for it.
It has been getting ugly a long time before Trump.

One of the crappiest thing to come out of this so far is Mitch McConnells inbred looking ### all over the place talking about taking Obama's last 8 years apart.

That lipless freak had pretty much zero to do with this Trump phenomena.

I don't think his up bringing has anything to do with his message. Havent the majority of our political leaders had "privileged upbringings"? I really am not sure.

I can't. She voted for Trump  :bag:
Well screw her.  Oh, wait.

My FB story: I'm friends with a former co-worker (about 50 y.o.), and I'm also friends with his wife, who I actually haven't met.  But we seem to have a lot of commonalities.  I find her to be particularly soulful and peaceful.  She's got a very soothing, calming air about her.  But wow - Trump's win has made her quite the devil woman.  She will "never" support him in any way, and in one post today, she called him "that MF man."    So yeah, FB is nuts right now.

Haha! Sounds like me. Shock is still there for many, then it will be raw when it hits. Need to give it a lot of time, maybe 4 years.

My FB has been pretty tame with the exception of a few Trump voters.  I've posted a few times today that "even though I voted for Hillary, Trump's my president and I want him to succeed.  If he fails, the country fails.  He's got the support of all 3 branches of government, so no excuses."  That's earned me a couple of "stop your crying you whinny #####!".  I've responded with "now's the time for healing not dividing and name calling.  Take the high road".  I think some people are just looking for conflict, but staying positive seems to calm things.

I also belong to a private Clinton group where most of the anger is being spewed without riling up the Trump people.

Except the Clinton campaign. They can just ignore Wisconsin, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and most of Pennsylvania and still expect to win somehow.
They had many of the same strategists who helped Obama win in 2008 and 2012. And they definitely did not ignore Florida at any point.

BTW, Charlie Cook analyzed exit polling and it showed Trump with a +10pt lead among those voters (26% of total) who decided on a candidate in the last month before the election. But Clinton had a +5 among those who decided earlier. Wiki leak and Comey effect?

I'd encourage everyone to take a look at the presidency of Chester A Arthur as a clone for best case scenario for Trump. Cliffnotes is that while he entered brash and controversial, the office and weight of responsibility humbled him. He left creating surprisingly compromising legislation, and while I doubt Trump goes that far, it is a good blueprint to note the world hasn't yet come to its end at his election (aka America has done this before and survived).
That might be a bit generous. Arthur succeeded Garfield who was assassinated and he appeared to be a changed man and felt the need to carry on the work if Garfield, who was a true reformer. You could be right and it's a hopeful idea at least.

Hillary only got 52-53% of the women vote...said her campaign was expecting close to 60%.  If she gets close to 60% of the women vote she wins easily.

They need to be grabbed by the ##### and put in their place.

I tell this to every female friend.  It's their fault Trump won.  Stupid women ####ed things up again.
I have been saying this also. If you are stupid enough to think that this election is not going to have consequences then you are living too posh a life, and need to be groped. Trump is a male chauvinistic POS - and women voted for him. You can't fix stupid.
