Sittin in the 11th round of a PPR dynasty start up draft and some advice from the assistant coach forum got me thinking. With the recent explosion of the TE position in recent years, what does everyone think about stealing value and taking solid, young TE's and passing on those mid round WR question marks. In PPR especially I am thinking the value of that 2nd TE is better than a 4th WR and could even equal WR 2/3 numbers out of your flex spot. Below is example from my current draft.

9 TE's drafted to 8 teams - Finley, Gates, Davis, Witten, Clark, Graham/Lewis, Daniels, Z. Miller

4 teams without TE

Best TE's available - Gronk, Pettigrew, Keller, Gresham, Cooley

Best WR's available - Floyd, Bess, Decker, Ford, Ward, Edwards, Meacham, Evans, Benn

I see better and much more consistent production out of the first 3 TE's at round 11 than any of the above WR's. Let's Discuss!

Really depends on the league and the PPR for each position. I followed somewhat what you are talking about in one of my dynasty leagues that gives 1.5ppr for TE's. I took Witten in the 3rd and Clark in the 6th (3 years ago when we initially drafted). Worked out well for me as those guys were in the top 20 points wise for WR/TE.

i think it is difficult to put a broad stroke on it as TE v WR. I'd probably take Ford over any of those TE's (possibly Benn), but if he's gone I'd start to lean towards the younger prospects like Gronk, Pettigrew, and Gresham

I'd take Jacoby Ford and Arrelious Benn before the young TE's. Ford will get return yards and td's. He had 3 return td's last year as a rookie. Benn's situation in Tampa will get better with the impeovement of QB Freeman and teams keying on Mike Williams. Both these guys,IMO, have a better chance of outproducing the TE's listed this year.

Gronkowski- Brady throws to a lot of different guys. He doesn't favor anyone in particular.I do feel that Gronk is gonna have some good games but not consistantly. I would start him in 2 TE's leagues if he shows some consistency. 8 games last year he had just 1 reception. 4 games he had 5 or more catches with 6 in one game tops.

Brandon Pettigrew- This wouls be the TE I'd want out of this bunch. Last year he had 71 recpt./722 yds/4 td's, most without Stafford at QB. They drafted Titus Young but I don't think he'll hurt Pettigrew's numbers. If any of these TE's can outproduce Ford & Benn it would be this guy.

Jermaine Gresham- had 52 recpt./471 yds./4 td's last year. Most likely he'll have rookie Dalton at QB and that could help or hurt his production. the Bengals also have A J Green now so they'll look to get him the ball I'm sure. His numbers were good last year for a rookie but with the unsettled QB situation, the Ocho85 situation and if Owens even comes back there's going to be a lot of question marks at who's gonna get the ball. You also have the young guys Simpson,Shipley & Caldwell in the mix there somewhere too. I'd choose Ford or Benn over Gresham this year but his longterm dynasty value looks good.

Keller- If Edwards leaves his value goes up. He's only 26 but Sanchez needs to improve on his 17 td's from last year.

Cooley- I've always like him cause he's a hard nosed player. He can produce but there again the question marks at QB make him less desireable. At any rate he's still a starting TE.

I really like Ford and Benn and their dynasty value. They will be good producing WR's at some point. I would have to say I believe Ford has the edge over Benn this year.
