PACKER 7

Footballguy
Maybe I'm just out of the loop here, (Haven't really gotten into FF yet this year) but why aren't teams going after Alexander, Jordan, etc?

Are these guys hurt or just too much money to sign?

As I look at the field of teams and their RBs, there are quite a few that need some RB help.

If anyone can help me out, would appreciate it.

Mike Bell signed with the Texans -- which is weird because they're getting close to being able to field the entire offense with RB's. Not sure if that helps you any.. what exactly are you looking for?

Kevin Jones also signed in Chicago. At this point, the main FAs (Alexander and Benson) are going to have to wait until someone gets hurt. As of today, it seems most teams are set at RB or have a collective bunch of RB2s and RB3s (like Houston and Seattle for example).

Add Dayne to the list. I am more surprised he didn't sign then Benson and Alexander.

My guess Dayne will be next when an injury occurs because he's cheaper.

He did a good job in Houston when given the chance.

Alexander has spoken to several teams, but he's under the mistaken impression he's still a #1 RB.

Benson, besides not performing up to expectations, has serious maturity issues, not worth it.

Dayne might latch on somewhere after an injury, but then again he might aslo still be looking for work on Labor Day.

The rest of the remaining backs (Alexander/Benson) aren't worth signing at this time. Particularly because their ego's outweigh their worth to a team. (i.e. they'll ##### and moan about PT).

Dayne is probably the first one I'd look to. As he seems content to be signed in as a backup for backup money.

The biggest 3 left are Alexander, Benson, Henry.

Shannahan said he thought Henry might not play again in the league. When a coach says that, it's hard not to take notice. He's got starter's talent, but a high schooler's head. Teams aren't going to trust him after the drug issues. He'll want more money than he's worth, teams surely won't sign him as their primary back, and won't pay him like it. A team would have to sign him and let him get through the suspension, and then you still couldn't trust him not to do it again. Just too much trouble for a back up.

Alexander is done. Maybe he can latch on somewhere as a goal line back. Maybe some team let's him share carries with another back. But, he's going to ask for more than a Chris Brown is, and Brown's younger...so...(I'm aware Brown is on Hou).

Benson...eh he really sucked when given the chance. So, do you want a guy that was that bad? He brings all the baggage of the BWI or BUI or w/e it was. He's going to want starter's treatment as well, playing time, payment. Same thing as Henry. A team would have to take him through the suspension for a backup...why bother? Eventually I'm sure someone will.

What's the story with Henry and suspension? Is the Commish waiting for him to be signed to hand down a suspension?
There's no sense in suspending him if he's not on a team. Once/if he signs, I would most certainly expect a suspension to be placed on him.
I doubt anyone is going to be signing Henry anyway, but a potential suspension will depend on whether he completed his rehab program and fully completed his participation in the NFL drug policy program. They have rules that say a player's "strikes" get reduced if they comply with all the terms of the program. At this point, I'm not sure where Henry is on the strike scale, so it would be tough to guess if and how severe his suspension might be. I would guess he reverted back to the 4 game level, but htat's just a guess.

FYI - Travis Henry feared "strike 3"

Now that his legal battle with the NFL has reached a happy conclusion, Travis Henry can admit there were days when he lived in fear of consequences.

He had two strikes against him, and the league's contention that he had tested positive for marijuana in late August would have meant strike three — he's out.

I would assume it would be similar to the suspension Ricky Williams got a few years back. That was 4 or 6 if I'm not mistaken. I don't know how the alcohol charges are typically handled, I would assume Benson sees less severe action though.

IMO, The Post is guessing how many strikes Henry has. Tht articles is from last year. A lot of time has elapsed since then. IIRC, the NFL drug policy says plays can lose strikes if they stay clean for 2 years. LAST YEAR when Henry had his lawsuit about a third party drug test, that was a month before his 2 years were up. Since he was not suspended then, I'm not sure if that incident could be used against him ot not. Similarly, we don't really know how many strikes he has as the NFL doesn't disclose these things, so we would have to wait for a statement from the NFL. We don't know whether Henry was a trooper and did everything he was supposed to do rehab wise, so we don't know whether his status went back to fewer strikes or not.
