Fairer way of determining playoff participants (1 Viewer)

next season im thinking we should change our playoffs a little 12 team league I think should still have 3 division winners then the 3 wild cards should be the 3 highest scoring teams regardless of record with each division winner getting $150 instead of $100 then extra $100 goes to pts champ then for the playoffs I'm thinking champ is whoever scores most pts in playoffs no head to head removes all luck from championship! What u think? With champ taking rest of the pot about $1030

pts champ should get more than division winners - I would go $200 there, $200 for best record, and $100 for each division winner

My 12 team leagues use 3 divisions, 2 record wild cards, then team with most points.

There was a recommendation in a different thread about using weeks 1-3 as the "playoff" weeks - I really liked that. Don't like the total points thing for the playoffs - there will always be some luck

We did a startup this year with 16 teams, four divisions. the four divisional guys go in and then the next guy in is the next highest point getter, regardless of record.

We give the reg. season highest point maker a pot of about 2x the divisional winners. Wild card teams get a small payday. Everything else goes to the league champ which is decided by a hybrid way (we do H2H to get down to 4 teams and then do all-play for a few weeks).

It was only one year of sample size but I really like it. It was by far the most interesting league. We had many teams in the hunt to the very end and it really did seem that the four teams you thought logically would be the most deserving were in fact the teams that ended up in it. It came down to a very close finish and I thought it was a great tournament.

i am thinking of having a head to head game as always, but have everyone play against the average as well.

so, i guess it would be a doubleheader with everyone playing against the average every week.

do that up until the playoffs starts.

this would allow IMO the better teams to make playoffs as well as having the fun of head to head matchups everyweek.

I prefer to use all-play record to determine who gets to the playoffs (tie breakers for total points scored, total points against as needed). Then, playoffs are total points during playoff weeks 14-16 plus the average from weeks 1-13.

To keep more teams involved, each week owners make their picks against Vegas spreads for all games, and the owner at the end of the season with the best pick'em record gets 2x buy-in.

For a 12 team league, I prefer 4 teams in playoffs, with payouts of 0x, 1x, 3x, 6x buy-in for 4th-1st places.

I'm getting a lot of resistance owners seem to hate change I just wann do the best I can to guarantee best teams make the playoffs. I see couple of you talking about all play when you say all play are you saying that everyone plays each other? So in a 12 team league you basically play 11 games per wk? I could see where that would reduce some of the luck but wouldn't that take some of the fun of smack talk out of the league as well? I think that could work in an playoff scenario

IT depends on the premise of the league. If you want to follow NFL standards, then having H2H is the only way to go. If you want to follow some arcane "best teams score more" method, then you need to move to a full points league. Points leagues are less fun and offer not as much challenge. To each their own.

Wow you call total pts arcane well let me ask you what do u consider the true measure of how good a fantasy team really is! You can't compare fantasy to NFL for one thing we can't control how players execute and we can't defend. Everything in fantasy is not gonna be like the NFL just look at most leagues starting lineups different than nfl. I was gonna try to do a mixture of h2h and total pts
