I just started playing daily fantasy games at fanduel.com

I have set a few NFL lineups for Week 1 that I'm sure will change from now until the start of Week 1.

I'm new to the daily (or weekly in FF) games. Does anyone have any advice> What games to focus on, and a strategy for the team. Obviously matchups will play a major part in teams from week to week but any advice/help would be awesome!

 
spend the least on WRs. they are extremely difficult to predict on a game by game basis. pay attention to matchups. dont overreact to last week. good example: cam newton had his worse game of the year, his price went down and no one really used him the next week. that week, he had 3 rushing td's vs tb.

pay attention to injuries. if mjd and forte get hurt, jennings and bush become no excuse must starts, for example.

 
Hmmmm......guy joins and his first post is "I just started playing daily fantasy games at fanduel.com". Sounds like some of the commercials I see on TV (when the mute button is too far to reach). Good grief...what an obvious plug :rolleyes:

Was thinking the same thing. To do something like that is lame and I won't be going to that site at all because of it.

I work for FanDuel, and Clutch is Eli definitely isn't one of our employees. We're already getting massive publicity from our partnership with FBG and David and Joe would have no objection to our starting a strategy thread, so there's no reason at all for us to do 'anonymous' posts.

Clutch is Eli - To answer your question, I think you'll actually find the strategy fairly similar to traditional fantasy football. Much more than with other sports, where evaluating daily match-ups isn't really part of the full-season game, and where you can use various strategies to increase your variance in large field tournaments with top heavy payouts.

As far as choosing games, I'd suggest trying a variety to see what you like. In general 50/50s are going to expose you to the fewest ups and downs, but large tournaments are a lot of fun too...it's really just a matter of personal preference.

My advice: don't play it often or for long. The 10% house cut on every single dollar you play on that website is a massive kick in the ###s. Good luck beating that in the long-run.

While 10% is stiff, it's not unbeatable IMO. If I played Helmuth heads-up in poker and the table had a 10% rake, I'm pretty sure Helmuth could beat the game. There is something to be said about skill.

Who cares if it's an advertising post? Since many people are participating in the FanDuel partnership to get the free FBG year, it's a relevant topic worthy of discussion.

Yes, no plug whatsoever. It is how I got a great dela on my FBG subscription. Thank you zoobird I'm just curious if other people have tried to play. It's a pretty cool site and if you're smart about it, you can definitely win some money. Have to be patient, play matchups, and focus on H2H (as opposed to tourneys). These daily games can be addiciting, but with the right approach, a profit can be had. It is by no strecth EASY MONEY, but it sure is fun.I reccommend checking it out... again, no commercial. Don't be so quick to judge, I'm new to the FBG community and with it came a free chance (more or less) to play FanDuel. I figured I would use my FBG subcription to get a possible upperhand over at FanDuel.
 
Ever since that veteran of WWI posted how much better the shark pool was over a 36.6k modem, it's ruined it tenfold.

draftstreet is supercool, so if it's like that it should be alright.of course, you never know which one of these places will run off with your money, and I actually got a timely check from draftstreet.
 
I got a free subscription to FBG with a $25 deposit on FanDuel. I was going to get the FBG sub. anyway so it was a no brainer.

I wagered $6 on 2 seperate baseball tourneys yesterday (daily). A $1 game with 558 entries and a $5 game with 20 entries. I picked a killer lineup and won a total of $19. A 70% ROI. It is not easy money, but with the right research, strategy/approach, and a little luck... you can definitely make a profit.

I'm up as of right now, and I consider it all house money. I think football will be very cool.

I was told to play H2H (greatest odds of winning) and never spend more than 20% of your bankroll in a given day. It seems as though pitching is very important and the better value you find, the better off you are (quite obvious but hey).

I would definitely not get too wrapped up in it... it's not a giveaway lottery or anything. You are gambling your money. With any type of gambling, moderation is key.

BEST STRATEGY: TRY TO WIN MORE THAN YOU LOSE ;)

draftstreet is supercool, so if it's like that it should be alright.of course, you never know which one of these places will run off with your money, and I actually got a timely check from draftstreet.

i prefer draftstreet but both are incredibly fun. i dropped ALL of my redrafts this year because of how much i liked it. it depends how much you will enjoy figuring out weekly matchups. to some, it's work, to others like myself, it's fun. both sites offer freerolls, where you can play for free and win prize money. although those tournaments are always pretty full and it's tough to win. but it's free. also, you an try free, normal 2-10 player leagues for free. if you are curious about these sites, i would suggest you play those before depositing any money into it.as long as OP doesn't sneak in a link, he will gain nothing from this thread. fanduel is already partnered with FBG so i don't see any reason for them to try to promote is with another thread.

im saying he is not getting paid to post this here. if he were, he would have/will post a link for us to sign up underif you sign up under someones link, that person will make a small % of the 10% vig fee you pay. it comes out to be about 2-3 cents per dollar you play with.the new signee will loose nothing here, so it's no big deal. but that is one potential motivation for posting links on ff boards

Ooohh ok, got it. Yeah, I was the initial post and I'm not working for FanDuel, trust me. I'm an accountant. I kind've wish I was working for FanDuel, an emerging market for sure.

its pretty much the same. prices are different, lineup settings are different, i think you only start 1 qb in fanduel. and each site has their own unique game settings.there are more, there are about 15 other daily fantasy sites right now. these two are the most popular. fanduel seems to spend the most money on advertising as far as commercials and ads go. DS spends more on freeroll promos. the mathew berry freeroll, for example. just a guess but i think the competition is lower at DS because of this. DS is getting espn leaguers to sign up while fanduel is targeting guys from FBGstick with ds if thats what you are use to. i prefer ds. play some free games at fanduel if you want to give it a try

I've gotten timely checks from FanDuel.A "waste of money" is pretty subjective. I know I've spent more $ going to see mediocre movies at the theater in the past year than I've put into my FanDuel account over the past 3 years and I have NO CHANCE at getting any of that $ back.I agree with flc735, I don't play in many redrafts anymore. The typical 12 teamer is so boring and tedious and when you get into the 16+ leagues it's a lot of fun but you almost need to treat it as a full time job to have a chance at winning. The real strength of FanDuel and similar sites is you can spend a lot of time on it in week 4, and week 5. Weeks 6 you may have a crazy work schedule and don't have any time for games. Week 9 you may be out of town for a wedding and can't sit in front of a tv/web site to see who is "active/inactive" for the games(the WORST part of FF imo). It's a fun way to enjoy the hobby without feeling like you are obligated to babysit a team EVERY waiver wire day and every Sunday.Strategy wise I'd suggest watch for cheap break out players so you can afford studs at other positions. The prices for the players adjusts but not always quickly. Often times you can ride a cheap player for several weeks before his salary creeps up to where it should be. A good example would be INDY and Luck. People talk about Collie(A LOT) but nobody really knows who his favorite target(s) will be when the real games start. People assume Fleener will be targeted early and often but maybe Allen is on the field more and ends up being more productive. If so he may be under priced for a month before his "salary" creeps up to where it belongs. That strategy is especially important if you participate in the "expert" level where you only have 55k to work with.To me FanDuel is much less a "waste of money" than most other forms of entertainment, but I can easily see where it may be different for others.

Because it insults my intelligence. I'm participating also but it still insults me when someone tries to disguise (badly I might add) a plug as a valid post. Might as well just make it a pop-up ad.

Same deal. Why not? Seemed like a win-win situation. Never tried Fanduel, so just started with a couple of cheap NFL tournaments for week 1. Plugged my sleepers with high upside for week 1, then studs for the rest of my budget. We'll see how that goes. I'll take it more serious after week 1.
 
My personal favorite game to build the bankroll is the 50/50 game, basically you just need to finish in the top half of the field to double your money.

My favorite week 1 lineup is something like this...

Stafford (Rams at home)

McFadden (PPG machine at home)

Rice (PPG machine at home)

Harvin (Jags at home, 1/2 pt PPR)

Colston (Skins in the dome)

Marshall (Colts at home)

Graham (it was him or Gates)

Gostkowski

Texans (play Tannenhill and the hapless Dolphins at home)

My basic strategy is to guarantee good scoring at QB/RB/TE and pick value WRs/TEs based on matchups.

We'll see how it goes.

HAHAHAHA, you are hilarious dude. I just wanted to see some different strategies. I am not affiliated with the marketing of FanDuel whatsoever. I play simple $2-$5 H2H games on the site and was looking for some insight for some side cash.You're lack of intelligence leads me to believe you suck at most of life. GOOD DAY SIR!
