Effing awesome. :lmao:

It occurred at a division title game between the all-boys Catholic Memorial School and the public Newton North High School, which has a large Jewish community of students. The game was held at Newton South High School, where an estimated 100 young men sitting in the student section cheering for Catholic Memorial shouted, “You killed Jesus, you killed Jesus,” according to several witnesses who asked not to be identified. Most of those chanting fans wore red shirts as a display of support for their team. Some of the witnesses, who were Jewish, said they found the chant alarming.

Newton North fans chant: "sausage fest, sausage fest"

CM fans response: "You killed Jesus"

So we have the homophobes vs. the anti-semitics.  Or maybe it was just two rival schools funning each other in their stupidly juvenile way.

If it was just chanting, it was stupid.

If it was rhythmic..."you killed Je-sus...clap, clap, clapclapclap".

Then its funny.

Nothing wrong with either chant. That's what sports should be about, so long as tongues are planted firmly in cheeks. Unabashed vulgar faux tribalism for a couple hours followed by genuine sportsmanship and mutual respect afterwards.

Our diverse high school chanted "Jesus was a Jew" towards Christian Brothers Academy at basketball games dating back to at least 1998. When did that become such a big deal?

Interesting how the press is completely ignoring what the fans from Newton North chanted.  So you can get away with anything if the other party does something deemed slightly (or materially) worse.

Sausage fest is a party with mostly guys, not a homosexual slur.

Cuz what the Jesus killers chanted wasn't offensive to anyone.

Back when I attended Newton North and played basketball, we would have simply kicked the #### out of those CM toolbags after the game and none of it would have ever reached the press. By the way, North isn't a "Jewish school" even though Newton has a high percentage of Jewish people.

While there's no need to overreact to this, considering the disgusting antics we see daily on the presidential campaign, it is terribly short sighted to just call this out as juvenile.  But hey, why actually take a moment for critical thought (like, where can this language lead, because as someone who had 80% of his family murdered 70 years ago due to fools not caring about 'just juvenile language' as hate, derision and division grew, it's disconcerting more to hear of a shallow and uncaring response like this than it is for the kids to have acted like yes, juveniles in the first place.

To just "brush this off" is either cold/mean spirited, terribly shortsighted, or both.  If it's a faith based school, then why did SOMEone not stand up and actually do the right thing?  Oh, because Jesus is below Donald Trump on the role model list I suppose.

Disgusting display. Worse yet that the adults in the room did not step in.  Sad to see people just brush this off as if words, especially in this environment don't matter.  Not part of the solution (and your post jon is not) you are part of the problem (the not so tacit acceptance on your behalf makes it all the clear that indeed, you are)

We choose to be offended.  For some it might be an invisible guy in the sky, for others.. dongs.
As I noted above, incendiary language like this was a strong contributor to many of us not having any aunts, uncles, grandparents... that is, if SOMEone was able to escape the hate and the terribly small minded lemmings, like you, who go down the "oh, we CHOOSE to be offended" route.

This is not about offense.  The chant does not offend... the knowledge of what this behavior DOES and can lead to is far more than offense, and it's flat out pathetic to see that you, like so many others, don't seem to have the depth of thought or just the humanity to recognize that for the danger it is, and the negative influence on our culture.

It's disheartening and sad... unfortunately, not unexpected (especially from people that have shown this lack of compassion and/or contextual understanding of what such an event represents in today's climate)

Donald Trump had nothing to do with this and is not relevant to this in any way.

Something was done about this, the kids were forced to appologize

The US is one of the least ante-semetic countries in the world (well outside of many liberals that is) and this action was an isolated junvenile reaction which was dealt with appropriately.

If fewer people weren't such small minded lemmings, like you, they could laugh this off for what it was... nothing but a witty come back to being taunted themselves.  The forced apology itself was an overreaction.

Or you could crawl in your corner and sob over how harsh the world is and how these handful of kids from Newton South high school are to blame for the holocaust.

Give me a break.

That was well before the SJW movement...

Well, it beats "we've got spirit yes we do, we've got spirit how bout you?"
In my corner of the country and in several other corners of the country where I have colleagues that I interact frequently, these kinds of incidents seem impossible...

It was novel for me.. perhaps a better word.

Witty in a high school basketball crowd war of words via chants kind of way.
Intent is everything when it comes to this kind of stuff.  You may find it witty or novel, but it was intended as an ethnic slur.  The "*************" thing has a long and very unfortunate history.

I went to a Catholic high school.  I didn't play basketball, but went to a lot of the games.  On more than a few occasions, when our players were being introduced, the opposing team's student section would take shots at our school.

They would hold up newspapers in front of their faces to show their disinterest, but the newspapers would have the shape of a fish cut out of them.  Other times, they would sing "Oh when the fish come swimming in..." to the tune of When the Saints Go Marching In.

This sort of thing has been going on forever.

You guys are looking way to deep into this.

Your interpretation is like saying the sausage fest chant was homophobic.  It isn't, not beyond the level of "ooooh burn!" - a zinger.

Mom jokes have a very long and very unfortunate history as well.

No, ************* jokes are closer to dropping a racial slur than they are to "mom" jokes.  The fact that you don't see the difference is pretty bad.
