fantasy playoffs--who to pick up (1 Viewer)

I don't think its too early to start thinking about the fantasy playoffs. I have LT and he has brought me a long way but at the same time, come week 17 it is beginning to look more and more like he may take a breather. Same can be said for guys like manning, probably a lot of the bears and by the end of the season I'm guessing the seahawks as well.

My league is pretty astute, so guys like turner and such have already been picked up.

I thought I would start a discussion on those people you guys might think would be a good play in week 17 and are probably still floating around on the waiver wire.

It would depend on your roster & league size. But a couple of long shots that I have on my radar are: RB Chris Taylor, Texans

Houston Texans HC Gary Kubiak told reporters today he might give rookie RB Chris Taylor "some carries for this football team to evaluate him over the next five weeks for the future." Ask true Texans fans who the big dark-horse RB was when Domanick Davis went under the knife and they'll say Taylor, not Wali Lundy. For whatever reason, he hasn't cracked the rotation yet... but apparently he will soon. An undrafted free agent out of Indiana, Chris Taylor "only" ran a 4.46 at his Pro Day, but insiders swear he's got Fred Taylor-like speed in pads

Kenny Watson, Bengals: Another Penn State grad who quietly carved out a decent pro career with hard work and a durable frame… He’s barely made $2 million bucks in 5 years, but he’s entering free agency in 2007 and the Bengals #2 RB Chris Perry has knee/ankle problems. This is Watson’s 4th year in OC Bob Bratkowski’s system; he can run, catch, and block as well as Perry, though he lacks the home-run speed to break off big chunks of yardage. “He’s a gamer,” Bengals beat writer Mark Curnutte told us recently. When he was a Redskin, Watson stepped in for the injured Stephen Davis & Skip Hicks and rushed for 110 yards vs. Seattle. Perry is being picked as high as the 8th or 9th round and we feel that’s too high. Rudi-owners might want to snag this Watson dude as their 5th or 6th back. It might pay off down the road.

We actually don't have a fantasy playoff, we just play to the end and whoever is leading in the standings is the winner. Unfortunately, me and another fellow are tied at 10-2 with little losing in sight and we play in week 17!!!

A good guy to have between now and then could be Ronald Curry. New O.C. in Oakland prefers short passes, which is Curry's specialty. Poor man's Boldin.

I think you are actually a couple weeks too LATE to be ahead of the curve thinking about who to grab for the FF playoffs.

These threads were all over the place two weeks ago.

I agree with the folks mentioned - I'd also add Lendale White, if he's there. Maybe Stokely if you are worried about the Colts clinching early.

MIA Sammy Morris put up some decent numbers in relief of Ronnie Brown averaging 7.6 yards/carry 12/91 vs DET. If MIA is out of the playoff race by then and Bown isn't back from his thumb injury then Morris could put up nice numbers @ IND, but I'd be worried about TD production since MIA seems to like to throw for TD's.

CHI Benson, If CHI has clinched home field and wants to rest Jones for the playoffs then Benson would be a good play on week 17 vs GB.

PHI RB Westbrook replacement, if PHI doesn't have a shot at the playoffs in week 17 they may rest Westbrook to take any more wear off his knees in a meaningless game vs ATL. Not sure if they'd play Buckhalter or Moats in this scenario. Upon further review,,,this looks risky due to RBBC.

Proehl seems the most risk/reward right now
Hopefully he's establishing a good rapport with Y.A. Sorgi.
I figure he at least starts out practicing some with Sorgi+the second/third unit. Stokely could mess everything up if he gets healthy. Wilkins used to be a pretty good 3rd WR for them several years ago and he's returned to do some nice special teams work. I wonder if they throw him a bone and get him out there as a WR. Proehl's age...there's alot going against him. He's experienced, "clutch", sure handed, disciplinned route runner and IMO that's a real lot in his favor.I have a roster spot to play with so I'm banking on him for now.

Brown should be back so I disagree here. There's not a pressing need to get Morris experience. I doubt it but I'd root for them to get Lemon some experience, I like that player.

Maybe. I imagine Jones barking here. He's gotta be pretty guarded about his job.

Not sure who and RBBC makes the risk too much for me here.

They still have Gado though and Lundy is far from a seasoned vet that doesn't need experience. FWIW I took this as "guess I'll have to bench Lundy" not "I should pick up Taylor".
