I've been a big advocate of FA, but the lack of improvements really got to me this year. I have a dynasty league with huge starting lineups and huge rosters, and it's just silly what you have to go through to find players you've loaded that you need to edit. You can't edit your parameters after people have joined, had to email their support to get that done. The section people can set the AI in case they lose link didn't remove the players that were keepers. It's bad enough you can't just type in a dollar value in that section and instead have to click once for each dollar you change. But when there are over 400 players kept who are muddying up the list so you can't see who is actually available? Ugh.I still think the actual auction part is the best software out there, but I agree they are leaving themselves at risk someone is going to come along with something better. I gave serious thought while dealing with the issues this year whether I couldn't write something myself for our league to use next year, as we don't need the commish service, just the auction interface. There sotfware is very buggy at the wrong time of year... and then they Charge us more than the year before with no improvement... thats bad business. If they don't step up... someones going to make something similar and take a lot of thier business away.
while the FA debacle was happening last night, I got to thinking about some low-tech ways tocontrol the auction. one simple idea was...- use a chat room for the bidding process. downside: everyone needs to be able to attend the auction (no A.I.)and commish has to actively do the "going once, going twice..." thing.- also create a google spreadsheet online in an account that all league members can access (or allow thespreadsheet to be viewed by certain people, I guess) and use that as the place to show the current stateof each team (players, cost of each player, total team salary used, etc). Not exactly sure about theupdate times for the online spreadsheet but hitting Refresh after every player or 2 isn't a big deal. It's not "slick" (like the fantasyauctioneer web site says about their applet) but I think it would get thejob done.I've been a big advocate of FA, but the lack of improvements really got to me this year. What is the cost to use the site? My buddy just created a website that works awesome... we've used it for two leagues now... I'm trying to get him to market it.....last update:the site started slowly coming back to life around 8pm.our original auction time was supposed to be 6:10pm.finally got an email from tech support around 8pm saying"sorry. site crashed. try to set up a new auction since someauctions are now corrupt."well, we set up a new auction at 8pm, and that one doesn't work. We're all ready to bag that site and use yahoo chat to run theauctions (that would've really sucked) but we gave it one lasttry and got it working at 9pm.once we were in the auction and the applet was running (finally),it went really smoothly. their auction applet is very sweet.Unfortunately, it looks like they're a monopoly in this onlineauction draft arena so we have no choice but to use them againnext year, unless something new pops up between now and then.hope you folks have a better experience than we did.

I'll definitely be inquiring about FA next year here in the Shark Pool to see if it gets any better. If not,we're not gonna plunk down another $25 when my ground breaking shared-spreadsheet-plus-chat-roominterface is free! The sad thing is; once one of these big boy sites (Yahoo, Fox, NFL, CBS, MFL, etc) offers an live auction draft... FA is finished.I can't be paying for a service thats buggy every year.
My league has just finished using FA for the second year. In both years we had technical issues, as well as setting issues. I cannot fault their support team. They were outstanding in terms of how quick they tried to address issues. But in our league's case, we feel that it is more important that the product be working without incident and that any tech support supplements it, as opposed to it being required each time. The sad thing is, when it works, the app is actually pretty useful. But, 0 for 2 is a bad statistical start especially for a yearly event.I think our league will be trying something more low tech next year. Our league almost disbanded due to the issues caused by a faulty draft (for a second time) and the eventual workarounds that were required. Since draft day is so important and it is very difficult to get X people together at the same time, we just can't take the chance again of some glitch causing an issue. For some leagues, it may not too hard for everyone to be around more often than not, but once everyone is working, has families, is not local, etc., the risk reward of using something that may not work becomes prohibitive. For those that have a bit more tolarance for a possible error and have flexibility in their schedules, I would still endorse FA because it does work well most times.I wish FA all the best as they obviously have some good support people there, but I only wish that it had worked better from day 1. Just our experience.LAfan68joey said:last update (that's what I said before, right?)...[snip]That's definitely above and beyond the call of duty, imo. This kind of classymove will make us try them out again next year and give them a second chance.
Yeah, I got that e-mail for two straight years........joey said:last update (that's what I said before, right?)...All the members of our league just got an email apology from fantasyauctioneersfor screwing up our auction last night. What's better is that they said they'll refund their $25 fee. What's EVEN BETTER is they said they'd add $40 MORE to chip in towards ourleague's prize pool. That's definitely above and beyond the call of duty, imo. This kind of classymove will make us try them out again next year and give them a second chance.Sweet.![]()
