Fasano/Rosario (1 Viewer)

I knew of both of these guys, but didn't expect either one to do much. (When did the Panthers start throwing to their TEs? When did Pennington learn to throw to the TE?, is it part of the offensive attack with Miami?) Anyway, do most expect more good games out of these guys, or were these performances an aberration?

The obvious knock on Rosario is not how he played, but the return and ramifications thereof of Steve Smith in week 3.

Fasano's the real deal. He's a Parcells/Sparano guy in a Parcells/Sparano offense that gives the tight end a lot of looks.

I like Fasano a little this year as a TE2.

Rosario just smacks of the "Chris Baker/Frisman Jackson" effect. Who knows, but I'd have to think when Smith comes back the targets he's getting dry up.

I am in desperate need of a backup TE, and Fasano will be the guy I go after. His routes tend to run to the edge of Pennington's range, and Delhomme is known to focus on Smitty.

If you can get Rosario you would be a fool not to. Just because Smitty is coming back, doesn't mean that the Panthers are not going to include Rosario in the offense. He won't have huge games like that all the time, but he will be a solid TE all season.

I have so many teams with Owen Daniels and Zach Miller and can't decide if I should take Fasano instead of either of them.

But why? How do we know he isn't just a one week wonder?I am ready to be convinced, but I'd like some reasoning, other than, "You'd be a fool not to..."

Fasano is compelling because the Dolphins lack a proven WR corps and the coaches (and Parcells) actively targeted the guy and brought him over from Dallas. I think he'll be an excellent TE2 this year.

So is D. Martin who put up almost the same numbers and a TD for Miami. He could easily out do Fasano next week when they shift coverage toward Fasano.

Because the coaching staff said with Smith out, a lot of the passes would go to Rosario, and then during the actual game, a lot of the actual passes went to him, and he actually caught them. This is different than that Cleveland WR in that it was a matter of game plan not chance.http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...1420&spln=1

Edit: of course this actual link admits he won't be used as much after week 2.

One of the reasons I like Rosario is because he played fullback in college, and runningback in high school. The guy is very nimble for a TE.

FWIW, Martin was targeted for another TD that missed.

I have seen him start showing promise since late in last season and I mentioned his playmaking a few weeks ago on this thread. Dante Rosario I am a Panthers homer that has season tickets, so I have been watching him for awhile before he blew up today. He has great hands, good speed and can work the middle of the field nicely and Jake was looking at him all day. After him saving the game today... I can't help but think he will continue to have a large role in the passing game. In fact, I will go on record that he may be more valuable than either Moose or DJ Hackett and will be the 2nd leading receiver for the Panthers. I had posted a video from a sweet catch in the Skins game and if you see that... I think you will be convinced.Panthers highlights Two Rosario highlights around 3:00 including the game winner.

So far these are the two most compelling guys on the waiver wire. Most of the WR's all had one huge catch but not a lot of catches or targets. Fasano and Rosario both had lots of looks and catches. I'll be targeting both but will put Fasano first due to not having a dominant TE (owens/scheffler), Parcell's history of having a good TE, fasano being drafted by Parcells, and Parcells love of his guys (such as Terry Glenn).

Agreed. Rosario has some skills. He actually reminds me of a less chiseled Kellen Winslow Jr. Check out this photo and the game winner

 I agree.

I am contemplating dropping Heap for him for just that reason. Poor Heap, tho... between Boller and injuries the last couple years, he and his "owners" have been just a little challenged to say the least. Not sure what to make of the hit on him I saw today, tho, I've got to check on that yet, but I really am thinking that Fasano might be more valuable at this point. Not just because of today, but what I bolded in your post up there.

Another thing, I think Royal is intriguing too... I just don't know much about him. lol... looks like I have some "homework" to do tomorrow! :X

As usual, JMO...

I can't give you a good reason for Rosario over Fasano. At this point we just don't know. However, I think Rosario is worth a roster spot. The dribbles I've heard are that the guy is athletic and dynamic. After Smith, who in that WR/TE corp is dynamic and athletic?

Carolina plans to run more 2TE sets with Smith out but IIRC they are also intending to use Rosario in the slot from time to time. I think he creates some matchup problems for LB's and S's in space and can outbody CB's. He seems to have caught the coaches' eyes as a playmaker and they are looking for ways to get him on the field. With him working the middle from either the end or slot, with coverage rolling over to Smith, and with the SS's eyes in the backfield to see what Williams/Stewart are doing...

...I think he has upside this season. But I actually think Delhomme is a good QB and isn't just all about Smith. I think Delhomme is smart enough to use the threat of Smith to get balls to an open Rosario.

Targets tend to gravitate to the guys that are open.

those mentioning Royal should rank him below the other 3. He's not some young buck that just needed his chance like Fasano and Rosario. The Skins had him and he'd show flashes, then just disappear or do something dumb. Maybe he's turned the corner, but I find it hard to imagine. If all 3 available and you need a TE, I'd definitely go after the other 2 guys first.

My worry is that Fasano will be splitting targets with Martin.I think McMichael is interesting as well. He didn't put up the huge numbers of the other guys, but he was targetted frequently and that's the #1 attribute to look for in receivers. He also has a long track record of moderate success as a receiving tight end.

That Dolphins team is still bad and the lack of other options suggests to me that Fasano will have some outright duds this year. Unless he is so good to overcome this.
