Favorite Bible verses? (1 Viewer)

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings, as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Im pretty sure God showed Moses his heinie here:

Exodus 33: 17 And the Lord said to Moses: This word also, which thou hast spoken, will I do: for thou hast found grace before me, and thee I have known by name. 18 And he said: shew me thy glory. 19 He answered: I will shew thee all good, and I will proclaim in the name of the Lord before thee: and I will have mercy on whom I will, and I will be merciful to whom it shall please me. 20 And again he said: Thou canst not see my face: for man shall not see me and live. 21 And again he said: Behold there is a place with me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock. 22 And when my glory shall pass, I will set thee in a hole of the rock, and protect thee with my right hand, till I pass: 23 And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face thou canst not see.

honestly for people mocking it would have been better to just start a new thread of most ridiculous bible verses

why not let the people who want to talk about the bible do it in peace?

it is like the droid people in the apple thread...just let this be what it was supposed to be and create a new thread for what you want to do
This is a thread for posting favorite bible verses. The ones centered around fornicating, drunkards, and seed spilling are my favorites because that is what my life is all about basically.
Also, maybe some folks favorite bible verses are the ones that make the bible look the most ridiculous? Seems to be on topic.
How can people be upset about verses from the Bible in a thread about verses from the Bible?
If you are going to be a deebag, just man up and admit it. Don't feign ignorance. JM 3:15
I am literally quoting Bible verses... from the Bible. I think your angry is mis-placed.

Romans 8

28 We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

29 For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

30 And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.

31 What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32 He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him?

33 Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who acquits us.

34 Who will condemn? It is Christ (Jesus) who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.

35 What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?

36 As it is written: For your sake we are being slain all the day; we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered.

37 No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us.

38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers,

39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 2

5 Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus,

6 Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.

7 Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance,

8 he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.

9 Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Nehemiah 8:10

He continued: “Go, eat rich foods and drink sweet drinks, and allot portions to those who had nothing prepared; for today is holy to our Lord. Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord is your strength!”

Luke 1

46 And Mary said: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord

47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;

48 because he has looked upon the humiliation of his servant. Yes, from now onwards all generations will call me blessed,

49 for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name,

50 and his faithful love extends age after age to those who fear him.

51 He has used the power of his arm, he has routed the arrogant of heart.

52 He has pulled down princes from their thrones and raised high the lowly.

53 He has filled the starving with good things, sent the rich away empty.

54 He has come to the help of Israel his servant, mindful of his faithful love

55 -according to the promise he made to our ancestors -- of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.

So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, ‘Get up; let’s go.’ But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.

How is sharing the inerrant word of god 'mocking' and 'trolling'?
Well, there's an inherent difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament, first of all. Somebody with a working knowledge of that wouldn't blindly sling that around. And even at that point, you're just being anti-Semitic.
Well, there's always 2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Your interpretations may vary, but the church I attended growing up was pretty dead set on this meaning the Bible, all of it, is the inerrant word of God.

.... especially ones to make imperfect people feel better about themselves?

I was a pretty horrible person for a good portion of my life, before the new millennium. Never got arrested or anything, and I'd like to think I have a good heart, but I did things I'm ashamed of. I hurt people, and sometimes to this day it's hard to look in the mirror. As Jules said in Pulp Fiction, "I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' reeeeeal harrrrrrd to be the shepherd."

I know this may not fully compute, because I'm the guy who loves porn, but certain Bible verses give me comfort. I'm not even sure there is a Big Guy up there, but I'd like to think so even though logic suggests otherwise. Anyway, I kinda like these passages:

2 Corinthians 5:17,

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

1 John 1:9,

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Psalms 103:12,

"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
my brother... just know that i'll have a drink waiting for you downstairs.

good luck with the "but i went to church on sunday and kinda read the bible and stuff"

2 Kings 2:24

"He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys."

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.”

Samuel L Jackson 25:17

1 Corinthians 1:18-21

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolisness of the message preached to save those who believe.
