favorite milk (1 Viewer)

And I'm always perplexed to be in a grocery store, with a big storm coming, seeing people stocking up on milk.

That's the last damn thing I want in my house if the power might go out.

When a big storm's coming, I stock up on beer, freeze gallon jugs of water (in case I need it to keep the beer cold, and make sure I'm stocked up on charcoal (in case I need to start grilling a bunch of meat). Not sure where milk would fit into the equation.

2% organic and it's about $7/gallon. Wife makes us get it for the kids.

If it was my call, I'd get regular 1%

I only drink non-fat milk, and I'm used to it.

But I also like sweetened soy milk (warm and cold).

Organic 2% that tastes like whole. it was a revalation for me two years ago. Fantastic.

Delicious, full of omegas, no hormones, stays good far longer than normal whole, 2 or 1%. I use milk only for Cereal (2-3 bowl a week in the morning) and for an evening snack (2 times a week) with Coco Crispies, or Captain Crunch, or Lucky Charms.

Skim milk is freaking white water...blech.

We use Almond milk for our raw fruit and vegi smoothies every morning as well. Very good and healthy.

This is what I do. The perfect breakfast.

I think this is brand dependent and it really puzzles me. Most organic milk we get lasts the same as regular milk. When you buy it you have a couple of weeks.

But there is one brand that comes in a opaque white jug (forget the name) that goes like 4 months. I don't understand. Usually don't buy that one unless I have to because it creeps me out.

Organic Farms 2% most of the time.

I have a little farm out of NJ that is non organic but I sometimes buy their milk, like the container the milk comes in but it costs about the same as the organic.

Organic Milk tastes better, I doubt it is any healthier for you than you regular milk.
Given that organic milk lacks the hormones and antibiotics, I'll disagree with you on this point.
All cow's milk has hormones in it. If you're talking about rBST, I haven't seen any cartons of milk in a long time that didn't say it was from cows not treated with rBST. Heck, even Walmart's own brand of milk (Great Value) has that label on it.

As far as antibiotics go, unless I'm mistaken, a cow isn't used for milk until the antibiotic is cleared from their system. Organic just makes them wait a full year after the antibiotic is clear. Seems like overkill to me.

I think it has to do with whether or not the milk has undergone ultra-high temperature pasteurization. A good percentage of organic milk is also UHT.

I can see lactose intolerant folks not drinking milk...but the rest of you non-milk drinkers...freaks. Every one of you.
Pfffft. That's your problem. I can't remember the last time I drank milk straight up--bet it's been decades. Worked years with somebody who drank between 1-2 gallons a day but I'm only into water that way. Love ice cream, milkshakes, and eat a lot of cheeses so I get my vitamin D--but just milk?

I use a Vitamix as I've burnt out lesser blenders trying to do this:

Handful of ice

Two handfuls fresh spinach

Tablespoon ground flax

Protein powder (50% Pea, 50% Rice)

1 scoop Amazing Grass

hemp seed

Chia seed

1/2 frozen banana

Almond milk

I just eyeball most of the ingredients, and they may change up a bit depending on what we have laying around the pantry.

Organic Stonyfield 2% or fat free... I like both.

I could care less about the organic stuff, but my wife buys it and I think it tastes good.

Cow's milk with lactose added gives me the runs, so I drink Lactaid. It's delicious. No problems whatsoever. We typically buy Reduced Fat 2%, or Reduced Fat 2% with Calcium.
