Favre asks Packers to release him (1 Viewer)

If I am Ted Thompson, and the commish called me and told me to hurry up and resolve the Favre thing, I'd thank him for his concern, and then tell him to get bent.Goodell shouldn't be involved in this at all.
Did not the Packers invite his involvement by filing tampering charges?

exactly. that makes no sense. I'm not a packer fan or anything, but how is this any of Goddell's business? If anything, his involvement lowers the Packers' leverage even more. If i was involved with the Packers, i'd be pretty pissed.

His involvement in what? How they choose to manage their roster? No, they didn't. They invited him to investigate a team in their division that may have been messing with one of their players. And really, that's what Goodell should be concerning himself with. Frankly, if Goodell's only response to the tampering charges thus far is to advise the Pack to resolve it, it sounds more like he just wants the tampering thing to go away.

 Goodell's good for that. Boy, I sure was critical of him when he was "aiding" the Patriots with their scandal, but now that there's an outside shot he might want to save the Vikings a headache over this 'tampering', I approve of his meddlesome nature.

Hooray! Another final decision!

Brett Favre could make a decision as to whether he'll resume his playing career by as soon as Thursday, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Schefter seconds a Profootballtalk.com rumor that some around the NFL consider Favre giving up his comeback attempt a "likely option." Favre hasn't asked the commissioner for reinstatement. The Pack opens camp Sunday.

ESPN reported Wednesday that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has spoke with the Packers general manager about the Brett Favre saga. The sports network reported Ted Thompson told Goodell the team wants to move on without Favre, so the commissioner urged them to resolve the issue quickly and determine trade interest in Favre. He also told the Packers he will reinstate Favre if Favre makes the request.

In talking with numerous NFL teams, the Packers contacted more than 20, testing to see whether they would have any interest in trading for Favre. Most said they do not; they -- like the Packers were trying to do -- moved on. Now Green Bay needs to find a trading partner in the event that a) Favre decides he wants to play, and b) the Packers decide they do not want it to be for them, as most expect.

If they are truly prepared to move on without him, I think they need to seriously consider moving him to Chicago or Minny. Preferably Chicago, but if they don't want him, and can't get him to retire, then the next best thing is to get somethimg substantial for him.
