Favre to New Orleans Pre Draft rumor? (1 Viewer)

Yesterday was a long day as I trekked from Miami to Orlando for a meeting. In the 3 hour drive on the way there I was tuned into ESPN radio (or Sporting news radio) and heard from an NFL insider that while favre was doing the retirement thinking, new orleans approached GB with a trade offer for favre.

Sounded like one of those shot in the dark things, but a very interesting thought in any case. A team like the saints with all their bad PR moves the past year trading for Favre, the hometown boy for his last hurrah in the league.

Again, it never came to nothing but I thought it was an interesting tidbit worth sharing.

Yeah, Adam Schefter and John Clayton reported on this. The Saints basically asked what it would take to get Brett Favre, the Packers probably said, uhhhhhh.....not going to happen.

What am I missing here? Favre is gone in 2007, barring dramatic improvement by the Pack. Green Bay will lose Favre after this season and get nothing in return. By trading Favre now, the Packers could have gotten something for him.Why is Favre untradeable to the Packers? Even Joe Montana left the Niners eventually.

That would be a nightmare PR move if I ever saw one.

Is that it? PR? That's the entire counterargument? Now I know why Green Bay did so little between Lombardi and Holmgren.

Pretty much. I'm a Buccaneers fan in Tampa, so I can't relate to the love affair to one player among fans. If Favre were to be traded and ended his career with another team, all hell would break loose in Green Bay.

Either that or the Packers didn't like the idea of Aaron Rodgers starting this year.

seriously??Brett Favre had nothing to do with nothing going on between Lombardi and Holmgren... and it was more like between Lombardi and Ron Wolf anyways (because Wolf was more responsible than Holmgren)

I was referring to the football culture in GB not allowing a football-smart move to be made. See also: hanging on to Bart Starr way too long as a head coach.

I agree to a point, but at the same time there are very few teams in the country who would be ok with someone like Favre to be traded...see Elway in Denver, Marino in Miami, Thomas & Kelly in Buffallo, etc., etc., etc...
