FBG Magazine (1 Viewer)

Any discount for subscribers?
Kind of....- If you first buy the magazine and then subscribe you save $3 off a subscription (if you buy the magazine from us). This takes $3 off the $26.95 subscription though (The cheapest subscription is still buying the early-bird at $20.95). Discount coupons can not be applied to the $20.95 early-bird pricing. That is the cheapest one can buy the subscription. Here is the issue:We make no money on the magazine's we sell online (In fact we likely will lose a little bit). It costs us $4.60 to mail it via Priority Mail. We package $4,000+ in give-aways (Golden tickets, stickers, tattoos, insert sheet, sticker contest, etc) with it and will sell about 3,500 copies online. That adds another $1.25 in cost per magazine. My parents also get paid 75 cents per magazine to package the stickers, tatoos, insert sheet and get it mailed to you. We pay another $1.50 a magazine to print it and get it delivered to me to send out.We do the magazine, because it jumpstarts the staff to have projections, Top 200 lists and to get moving early with things. It is also a great advertising vehicle for us as we send to different radio stations, etc. A lot of this world is still centered around the print industry so having a magazine definitely helps us in that regard. We package all of the other things with our magazine, because we think that makes it more fun for the people that have always supported us. It also lets us get this in the hands of our international customers (who would never find this where they live). But to keep the price down, there is no room to make an even cheaper deal packaged with a subscription, etc.

Fair Enough David...........BUT where do we order :bye:
The beginning post says details on ordering will be on the main page today. As for the "discount" part of the discussion, here's the bottom line as I see it: The cheapest way to get a site subscription is to get it before June 1. The cheapest way to get the magazine is to order it online before it gets to the bookstores. I recall paying about two or three dollars more for the magazine at a bookstore than the online cost would have been. And the ones in the stores don't have all the bonus goodies.

Why not have a online script + a Mag option for ~$30?

I think Rotowire has this and I always apreciated just having the mag show up without haveing to order it on the side.... well except for the fact that it was from an inferior informaiton source.

Before I purchase the mag, one question for Joe, David, or someone else who's in the loop: In the player pages, how many at each position are reviewed (i.e. how many qbs, how many rbs, etc)?

35 QBs with stat boxes (and about 15 other without stat boxes)50 RBs with stat boxes (and about 25 other)50 WRs (and about 30 other)35 TEs (and about 15 other)

It costs 8.99 for magazine now and $20.95 for the early-bird now so there is an option for less than $30. We do not package them together for two reasons:- Timing of the early-bird does not coincide with when we sell the magazine. Early-bird ends on June 1st. We will sell the magazine through July.- People subscribing don't have to give address info to purchase. We like minimizing that.

Maybe give the various options, that way whatever option they choose they can limit the data being asked.

It's nice to see Willie Parker on the cover, since this was the place I first heard about him. Nice symmetry to that.

In theory that would seem to make sense. But there are two subscription options (1 year and 3 year) and two magazine choices (US and international order). Then after June 1st, the prices on subscriptions (and any combo offers) would change as well. Plus we use the price to separate the orders (and know who we need to mail to). Keeping everything separate works best for us.

Don't confuse me with the facts David. :hot: I'll be buying both, but I will withhold on buying the online script untill the next price deadline. All things being equal, you could have all my money now. Year over year from a finance standpoint thats not a big deal, but if I get hit by a truck tommorrow your out $20 bucks.

Definitely worth the $8.99 to me for the on-line magazine order. Maybe I get it earlier than its available at the newstand and maybe not, but I don't have to drive to the book store regardless.

Also worth the extra just for the opportunity to participate in a high profile twelve team league where FBG peers can critique the draft and all the participants have a shot at a nice cash prize. Chance at three free years also nice.

I ordered the mag this year for the first time, just for the chance to get a free lifetime subscription to FBG. Even though I am independently wealthy and my gf is a model, I would never have to worry about forgetting to subscribe.

Thanks. I hate when I buy a mag and then realize it doesn't have enough players listed to do all my projections. I used to have this problem with Fanball's magazine. I liked their format, but it seemed like the number of players they reviewed was shrinking every year to the point that they didn't even go over all the starters at each position (don't know if they're still like this or not). From looking at the sample pages it appears that Footballguys has everything I liked about their product and then some. Since I'm living overseas at an APO this year I especially like the fact that you automatically ship your product early and use Priority Mail. In the States that would save a few days. Over here it saves a few weeks. Great job!

Just an FYI - the US order form does not allow for international phone numbers. I'm at an APO, hence I have a US address but an international phone #. Not a biggie, alot of sites are like this and I was able to supply the number of a family member in the States. Just thought I'd let someone know......

Thanks for the details, I figured there were reasons but it's good to know them.I haven't bought an FFL mag in quite a few years, but I did order this one and I'm looking forward to it.I'm sure the magazine content and quality will be as high as it is on the website, so it should be some fun reading. It'll be kind of fun to go retro with my FFL reading. :goodposting:

First off I have to say that I am still a huge fan of printed magazines. I can take them everywhere and feed my fantasy football obsession. The Footballguys mag is by far the best one on the market with information that you cannot get anywhere else. I can't wait to get it.

As for the Golden Tickets...

I was a Golden Ticket winner last year and hope that Footballguys has made some improvements. The lifetime subscription made it worth its weight in fantasy gold but the rest of the package was lacking. The Golden Ticket league was horrible. The rules allowed virtually no transactions and the league page and setup were horrible. Golden Ticket winners have still not received our T-Shirts...I know because we stay in touch by email. I am not saying this to complain, I am hoping that Footballguys uses a better service to run the league for this years Golden Ticket winners and allows them to actually play fantasy football! I also hope that they come through with any other extras that they promise. It just looks bad for a class organization like Footballguys to botch things like this.

Every year I look and never find this mag on the news stand. I'm starting to think it is some sick Blackeyed Joe inside joke.

But, that pisses me off because I'm a four-digiter so I should be in on it and snickering with the rest of long time FBG's if that is the case.

I can't find this anywhere near me in the Twin Cities, MN. Last year I found it at Shinder's, this year they don't seem to have it. Anyone know where I can pick one up in Mpls northern suburbs? TIA
