FBG Projection: Brandon Marshall v. Det (1 Viewer)

Since Javon Walker's injury, iirc, Brandon Marshall's weekly projections have put him as a low end WR1 (non-PPR, 12 teams) or high-to-mid WR2. While he's been consistent and reliable (putting up about 7 pts each week in my league), he hasn't lived up to the projections, especially the lofty projections of being a top 10 WR for a week.

This week, he's projected again to be better than he has been since Walker's injury. My instant reaction was that this makes sense since he has a good matchup because he's playing Detroit. But after more thought, I am beginning to question this. My reasons:

1. The Denver offense has struggled a bit. Yes, they played some good defenses, like GB on Monday. But whatever the reason, they aren't scoring lots of points. Not sure if they are capable of tearing up DET.

2. Marshall's been inconsistent. He's had some drops. And he is drawing the opponent's better CB with Walker out.

3. Cutler's been inconsistent. He's missed some passes and has fumbled the ball.

So is DET a good matchup? Yes.

Is Denver primed to take advantage of it? Not so sure.

Add it up, I like Marshall to put up another week of about 7-9 points (non-PPR, 10 yds/pt), where he'll get his yards, but his chance of scoring is about 30% because the offense just is not doing that great. I think owners expecting that blow-out game might be disappointed.

Agree or disagree?

I have seen very little of Marshall. However, every clip I have seen the guy looks like a monster. He had three catches for 74 yards on Monday and everyone of those plays was a highlight reel caliber play. I just feel that at some point everything is going to come together. Whether that means the game slows down for Cutler or Marshall becomes more consistent in catching the ball, I can just see him exploding for 150 and 2TDs and never looking back.

Disagree

1. Of course he's drawing the other temas best corner with Walker out? Why wouldn't he?

2. The Lions will score points a plenty against this Denver defense and Cutler will be playing catch-up all day.

3. Marshall played one of the better pass defenses Monday night and still had 74 yards.

4. Stokley and Scheffler are good enough to prevent double teams.

5. Cutler is extremely efficient out of the pocket on roll-outs bying Marshall time to get open.

6. Once Shanny discovers the fade in the end zone, Marshall will be Owens-esque at the goal-line.

I'm starting him over Larry Fitzgerald this week (Chad Johnson is my other starting WR)

I like him this week as well (have the same dilemma with Fitz). I'm a little worried about Stokely stealing targets, but the matchup is a juicy one for the Denver passing game...

Randel-El was in this same situation 3 weeks ago. As a #2 WR playing in the #1 WR slot (Moss was out hurt), El put up 9 catches for 102 yards in the first half against DET. He got injured, so he sat out the entire second half. He was looking at a huge day.

Everyone is putting up points on DET, and their secondary stinks.

I'm benching Hines or Jennings for Marshall this week. But Marshall will definitely be in my lineup.

Good points. However, I have the same dilema and am starting Fitzgerald over him. I like Marshall's matchup, but he has not produced enough to warrant starting over a stud WR.

Three INTs in the end zone, so isn't like they didn't have chances.
