FBGP Championships Strategy (1 Viewer)

I'm drafting on September 7th in a FBGPC league. I've never been in a league with rules like these so I was looking for some strategy help. For those that don't know it's a PPR but tight ends are 1.5 PPR. The lineups are QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, K, D, and 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE) and 20 man rosters. Obviously tight ends are going to go early at 1.5 PPR but the question is do you draft one early like the first 3 rounds in order to get a top 6 or 7 tight end? Also, do you draft 3 startable tight ends to fill out flex or do you draft best available for the flex? Maybe only draft 4 running backs and load up on receivers and/or tight ends to fill out the flex? Let me know what you guys think. I don't know my pick yet but I'll let you know.

Here is a pdf of one draft's results:

1st 3 rounds are too early for me. I would be targeting a top TE in the 4th if One of Celek, Finley, Gonzo, Davis or Witten is still there. If not I would target two of Heath Miller, Winslow and Shiancoe 1-2 rounds later.

I like this strategy. I'm guessing the top TE's will be gone by the 4th but if one is still lingering then I'd grab him as a steal. I'd also add Zack Miller and John Carlson to one of the lower-rated TE's who could outperform their ADP this year.

If you can get a top 5 TE in the first 3 rounds in this sort of league I would be surprised. If you can get a guy like Clark who can put up WR like numbers then I would be all over him instead of a WR early on.

Not too bad if Favre plays.

1.8 Azzurri - Antonio Gates

2.5 Azzurri - Dallas Clark

3.8 Azzurri - Sidney Rice

4.5 Azzurri - Peyton Manning

5.8 Azzurri - Cedric Benson

6.5 Azzurri - Reggie Bush

That doesn't look bad in this league. However, I don't think I could pass up M. Turner at 2.05. He went 2.07.

Yeah I hear ya. I just see Clark with 80+ catches and at 1.5 per that's really tough to pass up.

just be prepared to adjust on whether they go early or a little later. Every draft is going to be different and what is a good strategy in one draft may not be in another. I have done 2 of these far. In the first, Dallas Clark went 8th in rd1 in the 2nd draft I took Clark at pick 20.

again it depends, in one of my drafts he was drafted mid 2nd rd. Doesn't seem like a value at that spot to me. In my other draft he was gone before the end of rd3

When I plug the scoring settings and projections into draft dominator and the excel app, I never see TEs ranked higher than about 40. I'm having trouble justifying taking TEs in the first two rounds just because there are runs going on...

As with other choices in any draft it depends on each team's comfort level and plan for how to build a team

If you haven't played in the format, here is a suggestion - look at WR and TE together as receivers with either points scored from last year or projections for this year depending on your preference. When you have that list draft them as you would anyone from the list. If you don't think Dallas Clark will have as many receptions as last year then you might alter the numbers....but be consistent in your rankings

Last year the top WR in PPR were

Andre Johnson

Wes Welker

Reggie Wayne

You might well move Welker down because of the injury and uncertainty, but would you move AJ down? Wayne?

Remember that in that scoring system Clark scored more than all three of them.

Now where would you draft him?

One subtle but important difference is that you are required to start 2 WR and only 1 TE.

Perhaps, but with Dual Flex spots you could start 3 TE and 2 WR (if that was the best lineup for your team that week)
