FF Scoring: Awarding pts for 1st Downs (1 Viewer)

As commish of my league, I've been approached about replacing ppr with points for catches for 1st downs. Evidently some of my more noble leaguemates are offended by a player's ability to score points while not necessarily helping his team (I don't really want to get into that debate right now). It's not the points themselves that bother them, it's the way they are accumulated. So some have asked about the possibilty of replacing ppr with 1st down receptions.

Does anyone use 1st downs as a scoring option? If so, how do you score them?

We use this system for WR & TEs in a league that I commish for exactly that reason and it works very well. Don't like to reward the reception in the backfield for a 1 yard loss, but give the point for moving the chains. CBS has this feature. Rule of thumb ~ 70% of WR receptions are 1st downs, so that's how it would impact scoring. Also beware that due to a quirk in the NFL stats, TD receptions are considered 1st downs which would result in a total of 7 pts for a WR catch in the end zone (obviously if one want this can be negated by reducing the WR/TE TDs by 1 pt).

Thanks, WW. We use CBS too & I noticed that they have an option for 1st downs, but wasn't sure if you could isolate it for just WRs & TEs. That's good to know. One thing I have to be careful of is upsetting our scoring too much. We use 2 flex starters & I don't want to decrease WR scoring so that they aren't a viable alternative anymore - but 70% of # of catches may not be too bad.

Thanks too for the heads-up on 1st down/TD scoring.
